The biggest stereotype is that everyone is gay but that's not a stereotype - it's basically true. I'm pretty sure 8 out of 10 guys are in fact gay :-) There is also the stereotype that a prerequisite to get into Emerson is to be undeniably awkward in high school and most likely unpopular.

The stereotypes about Emerson are mostly about char-lunged supersmokers in skinny jeans, with fashion mullet haircuts and a perpetual sneer. The opposite stereotype, that students here have more money than they can flaunt at once with Seven jeans tucked into Uggs and a matching Burberry hat and scarf set, also exists. And, of course, everyone at Emerson is gay. Everyone.

Our Boys - Pretentious music snobs with messy (usually dark) hair, some kind of unique facial hair pattern, and the ability to hold impassioned arguments while seeming completely aloof. Usually gay, though its impossible to to tell here. Will do anything for a film internship or another pair of chuck taylors. The most prominent stereotype about Emerson students is that the majority of the men are gay. While this is true in many situations, there are still a lot of straight men. There's just a larger population of gay men here than at many schools. Also, most of the kids that go to Emerson are considered to be "hipsters." I've found that this is very true. Walk into one of the classrooms, and it's like you're just stepped into an Urban Outfitters catalog.

Emerson students are stereotyped as ultimate hipsters—complete with a cigarette in one hand, a Starbucks coffee in the other. They wear skinny jeans and belted blouses, leggings and flats. They are technologically savvy, and they all want to be the next indie-filmmaker or Diane Sawyer. They are a clash between trying to fit in and being anti-establishment. They are decidedly against religion. And God. Oh yes, there is a distinction. They are pretentious, egotistical, and strongly liberal.

Emerson has a few main stereotypes. Generally, one would say an Emerson student is not athletic, is anti-social, perhaps a scene or "emo" kid. Emerson kids are "Gay by May," while they smoke a lot of marijuana and cigarettes. Pretentiousness is a pre-requisite.
