It has provided me with the opportunity to achieve my dreams. Class instructors and involved and encouraging. Classes are online but can easily be juggled with work and family obligations. Syllabus at the beginning of class allows you to work ahead in the class either by reading materials or assignments. Discussion forums are completely weekly and provide the engagement you might not receive if you weren't in a face-to-face classroom. Overall the experience with Excelsior has been fantastic.

Excelsior is an online and in person school. My classes are done online because I don’t live in New York. I have had wonderful classes and no problems with asking for help from professors or classmates. At times it’s hard being alone with school but all of us in the courses help each other out

Stephanie - 09/16/2019

Classes are fine, professors are understanding and respond according. The financial aid department and all communication through the message center is a joke however. No one knows how to answer or what they are doing when you discuss on the phone. I have gotten the go around so many times and ignored by staff for months at a time when it is time sensitive matters. The only member of staff that has been any help at all is the Third Party Billing and they aren't even part of the school... that says something.

Excelsior College is an online school, meaning it requires a great amount of self discipline as you work on your own time and mostly by yourself. A student who cannot manage their time wisely and procrastinates often will not do well here. Students who are not familiar with how to navigate the internet and how tuse use basic computer programs, such as Word or Powerpoint, mayd struggle as well. Many of the classes involve weekly short-answer questions, forum discussion between classmates, and papers or essays; a student who does not enjoy writing may want to consider a different college.

One stereotype is that it's mainly a college for people in the military, but there is a very diverse student body from working moms to single young college students. A variety of ethnic groups attend and the male to female ratio seems pretty even. Though I think many of the males are military men. Overall, its a pretty good cross section of people in the student body.

Before coming to this school, I wished I had known how many upper level credits were needed for graduation. Excelsior College offers many programs to their students, from business, to nursing, to liberal arts degrees. I am in liberal studies; Excelsior College offers a liberal studies option that requires 6 upper level credits and a major option that requires 18 upper level credits within one subject area. But both require a total of 30 levels of upper level credit at the junior and senior level. This was very confusing to me when I first came to the school.
