What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Visit the school, stay overnight, sit in on a class. Really get to understand the people. The people build or break the atmosphere that you have formed of the school yourself.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I would consider the worst thing about Furman is the dining hall food. Furman has wonderful breakfast and that is the best meal of the day and it should because breakfast is the most important. Furman also has the Paladin which counts for another place to eat food on campus. The Paladin includes Moes, Subs, Chick Fil A, and a Sushi place, only one out of four of these places are a place to eat healthy. I also dislike that out of all the eating places the unhealthiest one stays open the latest which is Moes.

What's unique about your campus?
The best thing about my school is its size. At 2,600 students the average class size is aout 15 students. The professors get to know students personally and are always able to take the time to meet with students and offer extra help. Also the size means that a student will never attend a class, cultural, or social event where they don't know at least one person.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
I think Furman is the right size because that is the size university I wanted to attend. There is so much to get involved with on campus and in Greenville that you have no excuse to be bored. There is a ton of pride from students, alums and the larger community.
The huge issue last year was all of the political candidates that spoke on campus with the addition of Ann Coulter's visit and President Bush giving the Commencement Address. I was very proud of how most people dealt with it. Not at all proud of the faculty protesters at Commencement - VERY SELFISH on their part.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
For the most part - NO. While many may be from wealthy families many are from middle class or poor families. Furman is expensive but also gives a ton of Financial Aid and tries to recruit all races from all regions. You do need to study to do well at Furman but you can have time for social and athletic outlets if you plan your time wisely. There are those that love to party hard but most students are very responsible with alcohol if they chose to drink.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I would say that most people here fit this stereotype. Almost all of my friends are white and are from the South, and those who are not from the South are sometimes seen as outsiders. Almost everyone is Christian (I don't know any Jewish people), and almost everyone is considered to be pretty wealthy. Those who are on scholarships/financial aid do not really openly share their money problems with others.
