Hardin-Simmons University (HSU), located in Abilene, Texas, offers a college experience that blends academic excellence with Christian values. As a private Christian university, HSU focuses on integrating faith with learning, allowing students to grow spiritually while pursuing their degrees. The campus community is tight-knit and supportive, with opportunities for involvement in chapel services, campus ministries, and mission trips—creating a welcoming atmosphere for those seeking a faith-centered college experience. Academically, HSU offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with strong reputations in nursing, business, and education. The small class sizes, with a student-to-faculty ratio of about 12:1, make it easy for students to connect with their professors and receive personalized attention. This kind of close interaction is one of the major draws for students who prefer a more intimate learning environment. The campus itself is beautiful, with modern facilities and a range of extracurricular activities, from sports to student organizations. However, the cost of attending HSU can be high, as it is a private institution. While financial aid is available, tuition may still be a challenge for some students. HSU’s location in Abilene, a small town, can feel remote for those used to larger cities. However, for students looking for a supportive, faith-based environment, HSU provides a strong educational foundation. Overall, Hardin-Simmons University is a great choice for those who want a Christian-centered education in a close community setting.

Hardin-Simmons University is my dream college. I have visited about 5 times and each time it's different when walking on campus. The academics are great and everyone is so nice. The staff are always helpful and it is a great Christian environment to be in.

Hardin-Simmons University has been a good school to begin my musical studies, but the school has become a business rather than an institution focused on education as a high priority. This past year, a multitude of departments received faculty cuts and budget cuts due to bad management in past years and currently. Five of my main professors (out of the seven) for my degree plan were let go and not replaced, so I am transferring to a different University to finish my degree. If these cuts would not have happened, I would have stayed and finished my degree at Hardin-Simmons University.

Hardin-Simmons is a great school. There's small class so there's adequate opportunities for help if needed. Students are always involved in something and easily make new friends. There is a pet goose named Gilbert, and every year there is a big birthday party thrown for him. Stereotypes and cliques still exist, as does everywhere in the world, but it is kept to a minimum as everyone is accepting towards one another.

Maria

Hardin-Simmons University is a small campus that makes a huge impact on those who step foot into the school. It is culturally, mentally, spiritually, and academically open-minded. Anyone is welcome. Since the campus has a small population, you can see it in the classrooms and it is absolutely amazing. This gives me and other students the opportunity to really get to know our professors on a more personal level when we meet with them. The faculty/staff here are always so helpful and have a great attitude when someone needs help with absolutely anything. My friends here at Hardin-Simmons have become my family. It is my home away from home.

Trent

When I went to HSU for my campus visit I felt very at home. I visited with coaches and went on a campus tour. The freshman housing, dining hall, chapel, and bookstore were all very convenient, clean, and up-to-date. I felt very welcomed. Students and staff made me feel at home. I come from a small town and the campus had a small town feel to it. I can't wait to attend HSU!

Daveayon

the campus is pretty big but its not that big where you'll get lost . the food there is pretty good and you have 5 different choice to eat so you wont have to eat the same thing all the time unless you really like your first choice. you'll always have time to talk with your professors. there's no curfew but you have to be responsible an make it to class the next day.

Noah

Hardin-Simmons University is such a spiritual, cultural, social, and emotional campus filled with opportunities to connect with God and other students to change personal lives for the benefit of how they view life. I find it to be very adequate to my expectations and pleased to visit the campus and the round up for my classes. I also am pleased to meet the teachers and facility with a warm greeting to my future in Abilene, TX. I recommend this college for those who love to take a step out of their bubbles and to fulfill their lives.

Cameron

I love this school. It is an older school but the people are great and the professors are awesome. I fell a sense of community with this school. I know that I breath easier and feel at home whenever I return to campus. This is a small school but it is very much a strong community.

Selene

My experience there was decent. They have a good faculty that strives to take care of their students and they have pretty good student involvement. I feel like they could be more conscientious when it comes to students skipping class. I know it's not their fault but they should check up on a student who has been missing for a few days without notice.

Inez

Hardin-Simmons is a pretty great school. All of the students are really nice and the class sizes are small, so teachers take the time to learn your name and make sure they have open office hours. It is a small-ish Christian campus, so I feel pretty safe around here. There are many clubs and student organizations to join, so you can probably find a place you'll fit in. The only complaint I have is parking.

Cory

It's a beautiful campus that is surrounded by a small town feel. Residents are very welcoming .

Audra

Hardin-Simmons University is definitely a second home, there is so much of a family feel around campus. Professors and faculty are very helpful and supportive not only academically but also personally. They genuinely want to know their students as people, not as numbers.

Haley

Hardin-Simmons is a spiritual and friendly school. Class sizes are kept small and faculty is always available to speak with one-on-one. There are also several club organizations to join and plenty of activities to be involved in. It is a great place to continue your education!

Chance

I think Hardin Simmons is a great school to attend. All of the professors there are very friendly and really care that we succeed. The amount of friends you make while there is also incredible. Overall, the school is a great place to get your education along with learning more about yourself and the type of person you are and where you fit in.

  6. Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

Plainview High School provided a solid education, but lacked in some areas. We had a great number of students for the size of our building. There were many female students pregnant, fathers/soon to be fathers, gangs and uncaring students throughout school. The school is 72{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} hispanic/mexican, 24{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} white, and 4{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} black students. It's tough being the minority in a hispanic/mexican majority town. Sure, the school held great memories, but everyone I spoke to agrees, "we have to get out of here." I concur with their statements. I felt relief to move to Abilene in the fall.
