Northern Vermont University (now Vermont State University at Lyndon) is nestled in the idyllic Northeast Kingdom. Panoramic views meet students and outdoor enthusiasts upon entry to the university’s beautiful 211 acre campus. Boasting a skatepark, 18 miles of hiking trails and an outdoor ropes course the school entices adventurous students and teachers alike. Seasonally, the music culture booms with events like GreggFest. VTSU at Lyndon is a working part of its community with service done to local thrift shops and other outreach based organizations.

Johnson State College - now called Northern Vermont University is a wonderful school for anyone looking for a liberal arts degree. You will find a very solid a liberal arts education here. What makes Johnson interesting is it's Outdoor Education scene and Wellness and Alternative Medicine degree. Johnson is also super scenic, has amazing food options (even excellent vegan food), and have amazing outdoors trails, hikes, and climbing. They are close to Stowe and Sugarbush making it great school for skiers, as well providing an abundance of available job opportunities. They also are very affordable which is helpful to those in financial need. They have everything you need!

I think if there was more to do in the surrounding area than it would be my dream college. This meaning that if the town of Johnson was a little bigger with more shops. It would be better for the school and the town could actually grow. This would garner a lot more attention from to be college students. If we also had better food that would be great as well.

It's a great school with a great variety. I love the atmosphere. Everyone helps each other out. Teachers are always there to help out. Couldn't ask for a better school. There's so many sports and clubs to join. There's plenty of great classes and student life is enjoyable.

Cool school with a great view. Beautiful mountains surrounding the school. Professors are great and facilities to study and finish work are also great. However, students can become very bored due to lack of campus activities. More students needs to be involved with sports, whether that is playing or just simply coming to support.

The best thing about Johnson State College is the campus is small and the community is super friendly. I don't have to drive across campus for one class. I can walk there within 2-10 minutes from my dorm room or from a different class. The classes are small enough and teachers work with you to help you succeed in your classes and the after school tutoring also works with you and your schedule. The dorm rooms are of a decent size and have more than enough space for all of your items. I do wish that we could cover more than 30 percent of the walls with decor. The food is always switching up and they provide many different options. I do wish that they had sugar cookies all the time!

Absolutely amazing. Couldn't pick a better place to be. The aura of the entire campus is amazing. Professors truly care about each student on an academic and human level. The resources to be successful are everywhere as long as you want it. Genuinely couldn't find a better place.

After completing nearly three years of college and spending countless hours in classrooms and online, I can say that my education has been the single most valuable part of my life. Not only have I learned precious information from brilliant professors, but I have also been fortunate enough to be surrounded by an incredibly diverse group of intelligent minds whose thirst for knowledge has, at the very least, equaled my own. My interactions with others during such formative years has led me down pathways that I never could have predicted for myself, primarily because I did not know most of them existed! The veritable melting pot that has been my education has taught me so much more than what was spoken in classrooms or read in textbooks. I have learned countless life skills as a result of interacting with and growing alongside such brilliant individuals. Additionally, my connections with people in the wider community through internships and volunteer commitments have led me to discover and to cultivate parts of myself that I did not know about previously. My education has proven to be priceless thus far, and I expect that it will continue to return dividends until at least the end of my days.

I currently study Wellness and Alternative Medicine here at Johnson and couldn't be happier! The program is set up to allow students to pursue a career/go on to further education in Naturopathy but there are many other options within the major as well. Johnson is a very close knit community full of very open minded, supportive individuals that will help you in whatever way they can. The campus is absolutely beautiful and is definitely more geared towards the outdoorsy type, although there is a wide range of people and backgrounds that have found their way to JSC. It was the only school I visited and applied to and I couldn't have picked a better choice!
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Johnson State College is 95%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I think It's funny because during my senior year in high school I was afraid of attending college because a lot of people told me that is was hard and even the applying for college and getting in part was to much. I was scared all the way until I decided form high school and left for college and saw it for my self. Looking back from know I would tell my self that applying for college and writing the essays was pretty easy and being on campus and experience the college life seemed pretty good and most faculty in college are helpful they help with everything anyone might need. I was proud of my self and I was even happier that I had gotten accepted. I would of told my self to take it easy and everything would be all set.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Johnson State is a very tight knit community with people from all over the country and everyone truely cares about eachother. The staff want to help the students in any way possible to reach their goals and be the best they can.
A person who is looking for small school, an outdoor oriented person, but not necessesarily. The person should be prepared for cold, long winters. Most people at the school are very liberal and open about it. You must have an open mind and accept different ways of life and doing things.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I brag about the small classrooms/students per class, snowfall accumulation, long school breaks, interesting classes, the weather, the view of the mountains, the very small campus and little travel time that it takes to get from one's dorm to a classroom (from dorm room to class room in under a minute!).
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Johnson State is a small school with a beautiful campus that offers many degree programs and encourages their students to do their best in all aspects.
Tie between the professors and the mountains. The mountains because they're just very peaceful to look at and fun to hike, the professors because they really make the school and the programs there what they are. The students and faculty are very close, so when one leaves it's a loss, and when one joins the family it's a reason to celebrate and be excited.
