It is a beautiful school with so many opportunities and so much culture. The food is delicious and the options are endless there are gluten-free, vegan, nut free, and many more accomidating options that not only accomidate students who need it but are equally as delicous as all the other foods served there.

It’s a fine school if you’re someone who loves people pleasing and being uncomfortable all the time. It’s isolated and everyone always has a scowl on their face. Not the friendliest school. Academics are okay. If you weren’t popular in high school, Longwood is not the place to be.
Jamiah - 03/26/2023
It’s honestly not too bad if you are the type that fits right in and is not scared to socialize. For me it has been difficult to find my people to interact with on campus and I’ve tried everything. This college is very much clique-y. It reminds me of high school just more freedom and people. You really do have to put yourself out there. I really wish the campus and the surrounding town has more to offer to the students. It gets repetitive a lot around campus.

Longwood University is my new home. I love it there and the community and the education I am receiving. The professors all have doctorates and there is plenty to do around the small but beautiful campus. The class sizes are large enough for a good conversation but small enough for it to be individualized and for the professors to know your name and who you are as a person. Go Lancers!!

Longwood has a peaceful and serene atmosphere, it’s easy to find a place to relax and study. I enjoy interacting with others and making new friends, however it is a small town in the middle of nowhere. I personally enjoyed this, but depending on the type of person who comes - it may get boring real quick or it may be pleasant and lovely, at least I thought so.

Being a minority at a predominantly white school is actually pretty cool at Longwood. I don't feel judged nor am I ever mistreated. It is an all around good and comfortable school to be at. I've met a lot of nice people and the professors are the kindest and most efficient individuals ever.
Lily - 05/09/2021
Loved the small class sizes, hated everything else. Truly had the worst experience of my life. The people were cliquey, rude, superficial, and judgmental. My safety was put at risk and staff did not care. The town is isolated. Dorms are disgusting. I thought there would be a large focus on academics but everyone I met was apathetic and just looked forward to partying. I don't know who actually fits in here, but if you're looking for diversity, inclusion, and NICE people, stay away. I made the mistake of going to a small school due to my anxiety about big ones. Go out of your comfort zone and choose another school.

I have been to Longwood plenty of times and every time has always been a good experience. It is a beautiful campus and the students, workers and teachers are all so positive and friendly. They are always adding and rebuilding and its so beautiful, I truly cant wait for it to be my new home!
Katelyn - 04/16/2020
Longwood University is a great place for kids who like more personal settings. The community is great and the sports support each other which is pretty cool. The food in D Hall is average, but most colleges don't have amazing, fresh food every night.
Alissa - 01/27/2020
Longwood University is a fantastic school for people who are looking into smaller class sizes, teachers who know who you are, and an all-around family-based university. I have felt at home at Longwood ever since I left my home. Being two and a half hours away isn't easy at times, but Longwood has made life so much easier. It is super easy to get around campus because everything is within walking distance, except for Walmart, but we have scheduled buses that take us wherever we need to go off-campus. Longwood feels like a home-away-from-home and I highly recommend Longwood to all students who are looking for friendly faces, a home-based community, and amazing professors.

I rather liked Longwood, they’re always adding stuff so it’s getting bigger every year! It’s “smack-dab” in the middle of Farmville so if you walk any direction off campus you’re in town. The university is very clean and I use to walk around it safely at all times, though at night I’d have friends with me just as precaution.
karoline - 09/13/2019
Longwood is a great open minded school. The school is full of plenty opportunities and majors.
Katie - 09/06/2019
Longwood is an amazing place- there are so many opportunities it provides. Being a smaller school allows for you to feel like a valued member and not just a number. The traditions are what makes this community so special- it is truly a family and there is s lot of pride involved with being a Lancer. If you’re looking for a smaller school with small class sizes, lots of opportunities for growth and learning and a place that feels like home then Longwood should be at the top of your list!

Longwood is a college which will challenge you to expand your worldview. You will learn a lot at this institution, the classes will cause you to expand your worldview and knowledge. Yes, the classes can be difficult, but it will help you develop as a person. The costs of attending, although high, will not break your bank.
Sasha - 07/01/2019
I am really glad I made the decision to transfer from this institution. If you want something done, you have to be very very vocal and go directly to above resources. Even then, it will take a while to see maybe any progress. Beautiful campus. But the money that's spent on new buildings could go towards funding the education of some more students. A lot of students leave because they simply can't afford the prices. (That went up as of 2018)
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Longwood University is 73%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Study and make flash cards! Just those two would've made a world of a difference. Good thing I know that now though. Also not to procrastinate even though that's easier said than done. It also helps a lot to have a desk calender and write on it when everything is due and when meetings are. It helps with organization and reduces stress during the year.
My classmates (as usually they are honors classes) are dedicated to their studies and care about what they are learning, they talk directly with eachother as well as the teacher when in discussion - you don't need to hide your opinions from them.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst part about Longwood University is the fact that freshman are not allowed to have cars on campus. This is the worst part because of how often i would like to go home. I unfortantly can not travel home with out my parent coming to get me. That is hard to do when your parent works full time.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
My school does not have a football team, however it has just as much, if not more, school spirit as larger schools with teams. We have a very close knit community and lean on each other, students and faculty alike. Longwood is my home. Classes are small and professors know every student by name and face and are invested in each student's success.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Longwood University is over an hour drive one way from my house and even further than my work. I work full-time while attending Longwood University full-time, which has been extremely difficult.
An individual that is accustomed to a surburban/urban lifestyle and is now ready to settle down and have some time to themselves or someone who is planning on becoming a teacher. That is the type of individual that I would recommend to come to Longwood University. Someone that is okay with not having to go out every weekend, but rather, have some time to themselves and just have a place to study. I have found that Longwood is a great place to study since it has a lot of quiet time, but has a lot to offer as well.
Its small class size. Students are more committed and are able to form close bonds with professors. It's also not as overwhelming as colleges that have 200+ students in a class. You're not just a number. Professors make an effort to learn all of their students' names. General Education courses can expect to have around 40 students while upper level classes average around 20 students.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I brag about how many friends I've made since I've been here. Most everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and there are plenty of organizations and clubs to get involved with. Everyone has a place here at Longwood University.
Longwood University is known for its small time country feel. Farmville is in a small town where there is not much to do compared to a larger city. Most people rely on friendships for entertainment or become heavily involved. Longwood does offer some wonderful outdoors activities within the Farmville community. There is a High Bridge Trail that is really unique. It is about a 2 hour bike ride to the bridge and back. The town has bike rental shops, which are fairly inexpensive. There is also a river and some really unique shops downtown.
Longwood is ideal for people who want a small school they can know lots of people and be involved in lots of things. Definitley a college town. A ton of school pride. Is getting much harder to get in. Beautiful campus and small town allows you to focus on the college experience.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Greek Life is very important! All of the sororities and frats have stereotypes which arn't hard to figure out after a little while there. It's basically Greek, Athletes, Jesus Freaks and then everyone else. Living in the dorms is a great experience cause everyone is together and friendly. Off campus is just as much fun casue its such a small town that its only a short walk to friends places or parties. Parties are great! the weekend starts on thursday. The only bar in town (most often call "The bar" but known as mulligans" is where everyone of age is thursday night. Then everyone wanders to parties. Cops are pretty cool so you won't likely get in trouble if your careful. Still plenty of things to do if you don't drink
classes and majors are small which is great. positive pressure to do well in school. The library is a great place to study because you can socialize a little while studying. It's not overlly competitive but can be challenging. Definitley prepared me for a job. Allowed to me suceed academically.
