I love studying at Marymount University! The professors pride themselves on teaching us with a hands on approach and with special guests coming to class. The online platform, Canvas, is also really easy to use and navigate. I am doing graduate school here and so far so good! I’m really loving the location of Arlington, VA as well since it’s so close to Washington, DC.

Marymount University is an exceptional institution of learning. My transfer experience from Northern Virginia Community College was seamless and I was amazed at how many credits transferred. The faculty and staff are beyond helpful. I learned so much both within my major and outside of it due to their expert guidance. Most importantly they strongly advocated on my behalf and helped me find a valuable internship.
Marymount's campus is pure eye candy, and the little touches like seasonal flowers help make it one of the most beautiful campuses in the area. The classrooms are also state of the art and feature the latest technologies.
Lastly, Marymount is a fun school to go to. The students are all very friendly and the school creates no shortage of activities to do with them

Marymount is very attentive, and the staff is often available to help students when needed. Additionally the who campus is very organized. It is a walking campus with signs everywhere and friendly people to offer directions when needed. The class sizes are typically small and provide a lot of individual attention from each of the professors.

I'm glad that I chose this school as my chance to experience the world away from home. I never thought I would be going to school out of state but now doing it makes a smile grow on my face. Everyone here is nice and helpful. the people here go out of their way to make you feel welcomed.

It is very hard to get into the Master level courses you want when you want. There is often slim pickings and fill up fast or conflict with other courses. Trying to get a hold of my academic advisor to help me fix these issues has also been another battle. She often refers me to talk to other people or to wait until later in hopes of fixing the issue. I often wonder...what is her job? Some of the professors are also questionable. One did not know the material in the text and another did not grade in accordance with the syllabus, and when brought to her attention did nothing to fix her grading error. If you're a veteran and need to take a full load or want to make the most of your GI bill, I'd recommend going to another school.

I love it! It is everything I hope for in college. I have lived in Arlington my whole life. I love it here and I can’t imagine where I would be instead. Many people left for college because they wanted to get away from the “Arlington Bubble”. I have found that Marymount is a bubble of its own. It’s as if I haven’t lived here my whole life. I have met many new people and learned to accept other’s points of view. You will get out of Marymount, as much as you put into it. Staying active in extracurricular activities is a great way to find the true culture of Marymount University.

Marymount is a school where a student can enjoy every aspect of college plus more. The academics are above average, the location is great having D.C, Georgetown, Clarendon, etc. because it opens up a variety of job opportunities for students along with opening several social opportunities and nightlife for them, the campus is beautiful and while it is smaller, the ballston campus makes it more extensive and is a really nice building for classes, the events held on and off campus through Marymount are so fun and allow the students and community to interact, and lastly if you are involved in a sport you can enjoy college playing the sport you love and attending others sporting events.

Marymount is a great school for academics. The campus is very small so there literally isnt anything to do on campus. Despite the campus being small the location of the campus is pretty good. Not too far from DC or hangout spots. The housing is ehhh decent a lot of renovation needed in some areas. The food starts off goos and as you seep into the school year it becomes trash. The campus is boring and you'd be bored out of your life if you dont have any friends so make sure you're open to being social and meeting new friends. The school is extremely expensive. The price for sure isnt worth the experience. However you cant put a price on good ole education and thats something Marymount excels in, making sure their students are not only career ready but educated as well. In overall college is what you make it, Marymount is my home id give it a fair 3/5 stars.

Like every other school, Marymount isn't perfect. But, that doesn't mean it doesn't have great potential. It's a school that really wants students to get involved and prepares them through programs, in class and out. It's small, which means you are able to feel part of the community as soon as you arrive. In addition, you have DC and so much rich history around you which makes the experience even greater.

Marymount University was my 3 choice school but for just being here for a year it has definitely been changed to my number 1 choice. Marymount is a great environment with kids from all over engaging and loving professors. Mind you Marymount is a small university with about 5 to 6 thousand attending school from both commuter to staying on campus. Overall Marymount University is the place to be and I would never choose any other school over it.

Marymount is great for students looking for a smaller campus as opposed to a large one like the University of Maryland or Howard University. The location of the school is amazing, D.C. is less than 20 minutes away and Tyson's Corner is about 30 minutes away. The main campus is down the street from Ballston Commons and there's a lot of cute shops, restaurants, a movie theatre, and other interactive activities to take part in. We recently got a new off-campus apartment building, it's totally brand new and the students love it especially since its right next door to one of our off-campus learning facilities where most students have class. Our school is also great for commuters as its extremely easy to get there by the metro. The shuttle transports the student to and from the metro, to and from the dorms, and to and from campus to campus.

The school like many other schools needs improvements. The classes are small enough so that everyone can be heard and helped. The food is either a hit or miss most days and the campus has events going on and lots of places to go that is near the campus. Overall, the school is very nice and focuses on academics and has many great programs.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
All students MUST visit the college they are interested in. Do not settle for less! There is a college out there that meets everyone's wants and needs! Also look up some professors that teach at the school of your choice so you know what your getting into. Most of my friends loved their school, but realized they were in the middle of no where. Make sure you take a good look at your campus, but also look at your surrounding areas. Remember you do need a social life and it should not all be spent on campus. Go out and take a load off the books!

My school is a small school, where everyone knows everyone. Everyone gets along. there is a lot of school spirit and many different diverse from all over the world.

My school is a private Catholic University. Marymount University has an accelerated BSN program that is 16 months longs for 2nd degree -seeking students. Although, the program is fast and compact, it provides more than enough opportunities for classroom and clinical experience. I have already completed one semester with ease due to the fact that the program is small. There is about ninety students in the 2nd degree program and we are divided into two sections. This allows for more interaction with fellow classmates and more one-on-one time with the professor.
Marymount University is a fantatsic school located in the D.C. area that offers a tremendous private liberal arts education a fraction of the cost of a larger schools in the region. Its political science and healthcare programs are some of the best in the nation, with the latter being accredited by the Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management, a national institution. Marymount's curiculum also includes a required internship, allowing all students to gain work experience prior to graduation.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Someone who wants a big college with fraternities/sororities and a lot of different activities shouldn't attend this school. This school is a small, Catholic school. The classes are small. There are only 2 options for places to eat. There are no parties on campus, nor fraternities or sororities. We are division 3 for sports. There isn't much school spirit.
If you are willing to work hard and not fool around then you should apply. Professors dont have time for games so unless you are serious about learning don't apply.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I tell my friends that it is a small and close knitt school. The professors are amazing and the people are awesome. Everyone is nice and helpful. Academics is the main focus of the school which is great for me.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Clubs are bountiful at Marymount and you are always welcome to make one if you have the interest in it. We have a LGBT, gaming club, many singing groups, and my friend and I are working on bringing theater back to Marymount.
Like I said before, there is ALWAYS something to do at Marymount. Every night there is an event for all students to attend, and they are quite popular. Movie nights are always fun AND free!
People at Marymount party, but I'm not sure where seeing that all parties in the dorms are shut down immediately.
Most professors prefer to be called by their first name, or something informal like just being called by their last name. Classes are small, so they WILL learn your name.
I'm majoring in fashion design and all professors in my major have been helpful and knowledgeable when I needed help.
Most if not all classes in my major require materials that can cost quite a lot, which is a problem for a broke college student.
Student study habits at Marymount vary. I know people that study between every class and during any freetime they have, but on the otherhand I know a lot of people who just 'wing it'.
My first two weeks at Marymount were AWFUL. I didn't know anyone, and everyone already seemed to know each other so I instantly felt out of the loop. I went home every weekend for the first month (I only live about an hour away) which I DO NOT recommend. You will miss so many opportunities, as the school sponsors SO MANY EVENTS! Seriously, there is always something to do. Last night I went to a *free* showing of X-Men First Class and tonight I'm participating in Open Mic Night.
The food on campus is decent. For the first week I couldn't eat in the dining hall because every time I did I got sick afterwards, but I guess I just had to get used to it? I'm not sure about that....But Bernie's in the Lee Center has been great from day one. It serves so many different kinds of comfort food, which is great in college. The only downside about Bernie's is that it only counts as part of your meal plan from 12-4ish, and after that you have to pay. It's not expensive, though. Zest/Lola's is another eatery on campus that serves flatbreads, coffee, gelato, and wraps. It opened just last year and not many people know about it because it's hidden over in Ostepanko. (the upperclassmen dorms) Zest/Lola's is NOT a part of your meal plan, which sucks because they make the best food.
The dorms are SMALL. I visited VCU and Marymount my senior year of highschool and VCU's dorms are twice the size of Marymount's. It's not an issue if you are a neat person, but if you are on the messier side you WILL have a problem.
The campus is 'semi-dry', meaning if you're under the age of 21 and caught drinking in the dorms, you will get a suspension and if caught again an expulsion. They aren't too strict about it because I know a lot of people who drink every weekend and have never gotten in trouble for it. Parties are absolutely NOT ALLOWED in any dorm.
The professors are knowledgeable about their subjects, for the most part. I have only had an issue with one professor and he was new, so he was just getting into the swing of things himself. Attendance is recorded in every class, and in most classes if you miss more than 2 classes you get lowered a letter grade for each additional class missed. That is a pain, especially seeing that you're bound to get sick or sleep through your morning class.
What is the stereotype of students at your school?
I was told that everyone at Marymount is snobby and self centered, and I have found that the opposite is true. The only 'snobbiness' I have encountered is with the people on the soccer/LAX/volleyball teams. They are very 'you're either in or out', if you get what I mean.

The stereotype is Christians, prude and geeky.
I go to a Catholic, private school. I do not agree with the stereotype and think everyone is very nice and the faculty and stuff very helpful.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
