MVSU is a pretty decent school where everyone is literally helps everyone, everyone just about are very sociable and willing to talk about anything. With the school being a Historically Black College everyone just about gets along, even the teachers and professors get along. The people in higher positions helps some, but you most definitely have to stay in contact with some.

Mississippi Valley State University is not a bad school at all. It is not quite the best either but for most students who attend, they tend to like it very much. I honestly do not believe Valley is a good school for me but I say this because I do not believe MVSU is a good school to attend if you are trying to go into certain programs, such as psychology. I want to major in Criminal Justice and minor in Psychology but Valley does not offer a psychology program.. but overall MVSU is a pretty decent school.

Mississippi Valley State University is a true and true historical black college or university, that offers all the necessities plus more. At valley you can relax with friends in the union, under the pavilion or at the cafe. Plus there are a full staff of bright and willing to help professors.

I don’t have any opinions about Mississippi so far because overall being here on campus is great nothing bad happens at all everyone here is completely safe at all times. Professors are always for if I need any help with anything and also make sure that I’m always up to par.

My overall opinion of Mississippi Valley State University is great I really enjoy being a student at MVSU. I love my classes and enjoy the environment on campus. I have lots of fun with classmate, and on-campus. My class are very exciting and I enjoy them.

My overall opinion of Mississippi Valley State University is actually quite opposite of what I thought of it at first. Many people talk down on MVSU, but in reality this university is like any other. You overhear a lot of people saying this school is "ghetto" or only "dumb" people go there. MVSU isn't as bad as most people say. We participate in festivities together. When you are an athlete like I am, you have a TEAM, who becomes like a family. There's the really sweet and helpful professors. They respect you, they help you when you are stuck, and all they ask of the students is to do the work and do it right. Grades are not given, they are earned. Overall as a university I came to love Valley. I've made a couple friends. I'm close to most of my teammates and I love them. Valley is great! You have to make the best out of what you have and that is exactly what I do! To me Valley is like the home away from home. Most of us feel at home when we're on this campus. They have decent food, overall the campus is nice. It is not perfect, needs a little work but you work with what you have. I can say that I am proud to be a MVSU student!

The people are amazing. Down to earth is an understatement. The teachers and environment in the business building is wonderful. It is rigorous but worth it. The sports are sub par at best (only team really winning is the track or soccer). The cafeteria has some really good days and meh days on weekends sometimes. Other than that, the school's small size makes for a very comfortable and family like atmosphere.

Mississippi Valley State University is usually the “lit” topic around town. Whether it be good or bad. I know a lot of people who attend this school. When I attend this college, I will try my best to stay focused because people don’t get I know that attends this school come or make me feel comfortable or they can take my focus away.

From my experience of being on campus, I collaborated with current enrolled students and facility members that provided exceedingly intellect on the development of how my schooling would be in prior commendations of becoming a fellow student. The atmosphere brings a further appeal to the mentioning of the school's name, and not to mention the hard work and perseverance seen through and by other students. Mississippi Valley State showed themselves worthy of being a high ranked university.

Many schools (several of the Ivy Leagues, and many liberal arts colleges) have a supplemental essay that asks you to talk about you want to go to their school. They ask this question for a lot of reasons, but there are 2 big reasons, one cynical, one more warm and fuzzy. The cynical reason is, bluntly, they want to accept students who will accept their offers of admissions. The higher the percent of students accepted that go there, the less they have to accept from the wait list, the lower their acceptance rate, and the better they look. The other reason is less self-serving, and it’s more about the students. Schools are not just looking to accept the best, the brightest, and most interesting, but also to find the students who are the best matches. They want students who will thrive on campus, not transfer out (which will hurt their rankings!), and who will contribute to campus life.

MVSU is a great place to learn away from the citiy. With small classes and devoted faculty, I've seen myself grow in my 3 months being here. I can honestly say that I have love for the valley and how the college not only helps the family environment but you feel apart of the campus life.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, knowing what I do now about college life and making the transition, I would give myself very different advice than the actions I portrayed. I would have told myself to focus more and be prepared to be very indepent while being in college and handling my business on my own. College is very time consuming and it is up to the student to determine if he/she wants to either get a 4.0 or just barely pass every class. Its all about the effort you put into your work and how much your future means to you. These are the different words of advice I would have given to myself, had a known what I do about college now.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing i consider ta my school is the lack of advisment. The times the classes are given because mostly all the class are given around the same time this leaves you lack of classes needed that cant be taken
There are a variety of people that can attend this school, preferrably those who are athletes and really enjoy sport activities. People who are socially active, meaning those who do not mind meeting new people and loves the surrounding of a div ersed community.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Alot of students choose not to attend MVSU based on the fact that its so close to home or they've been exposed to the university so much that they want to engage in a new surrounding. Like all schools, MVSU does have some issues that the administration is aware of and are making great strides in changing the environment. Those same students go off and for whatever reasons after a year or two at another institution return home to MVSU to finish their degree or just to start over. Stop making MVSU your second choice when the university was at your disposal from the start.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The campus is very cozy, some of the professors are very attentive, and our new campus president is doing some great things with Mississippi Valley State Unviersity.
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
Yes, MVSU does serve alot of 1st generation college students who come from the surrounding delta where many parts are considered to be in poverty. I disagree with the students being lazy and unconcerned.
The school is pretty inclusive. Students are involved in administration dialogue. In some cases classes are small therefore students are afforded one on one attention and the faculty members care about the students taking their classes. Around campus a student can easily find support systems to encourage academic excellence.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
96% of students attending Mississippi Valley State University receive some sort of financial aid.
82% were awarded federal grants.88%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
