In August of 2024 I went on a college visit to the University of Mississippi and it was amazing! Being on the campus was such a fun and informative experience. It is extremely beautiful, and it does not take much to be able to tell there is never a dull day if you choose to go here. Another thing I would say about it is if you enjoy watching sports, this is definitely the place for you. The University of Mississippi has a ton of good athletic teams, and the crowd is always energetic and full of school spirit. Something that really caught my attention as I was visiting the campus was that everyone, I saw walking around looked happy to be there. Seeing everyone else in a good mood will definitely boost yours and you are guaranteed that someone is going to put a smile on your face. Although all of these factors can play a large role in someone's college decision, another good part of Ole Miss is their education. If you are looking to majoring in accounting, I would say this school is your best fit. The University of Mississippi has the second-best accounting program in the nation. Not only is this the only good program they have, but there is many more! Overall, if you are looking for a campus with kind people, good athletics, and also the most important part, good education, then I would definitely recommend you towards the University of Mississippi.

The University of Mississippi, or Ole Miss, has always stood out to me as a place where academic excellence meets strong community values. From the moment I began researching law schools, Ole Miss drew me in—not just for its impressive legal education, but for the sense of tradition, hospitality, and pride that defines its campus culture.
One of the most attractive aspects of the university is its 3+3 Accelerated Law Program. The opportunity to complete both a bachelor’s degree and a law degree in just six years is a game changer. It reflects the university’s commitment to making legal education more accessible, efficient, and forward-thinking. Being able to start law school a year earlier not only saves time and money, but it also means getting a head start on making a real difference in the legal field.
In addition to academics, I’m drawn to the spirit of the Ole Miss student body—there’s a genuine sense of school pride and involvement that’s hard to miss. Whether it’s cheering in the Grove on game day or engaging in service projects, students here are passionate, driven, and welcoming. It’s the kind of environment where I know I’ll be supported and challenged to grow.
Overall, I would rate the University of Mississippi a solid 10 out of 10. It checks every box for me: academic rigor, a supportive community, and programs designed to set students up for success. I’m excited about the future, and I know Ole Miss is the right place to help me build it.

The University of Mississippi has a great social scene and great professors. My only negative is that it is not very diverse, and sometimes it feels less safe for minorities. There needs to be more spaces where minority students can go to connect and feel heard.

It's the perfect size where your professors really will get the chance to meet you and have one on one time with you if needed. I want to attend the University of Mississippi because it truly feels like a home away from home. Being four hours away from home can impact a person, but when I go to Oxford it truly just feels like my second home. I love the culture of the school, it reminds me of my hometown. It's like one big family there, everyone is so supportive of one another and is there to lift others up not tear each other down. I also love the academic opportunities. I would be able to get two bachelor degrees in just 5 years. I could not only get one degree doing something I love, but two!! This school just felt like I was at home as soon as I stepped foot on the campus, and I would love to make it my home for the next 4 years. GO REBS!!

Love the University. I would highly recommend Ole Miss to all my friends and relatives. My academic experience was excellent. I would recommend your children get involved with campus activities and sports. Greek life ...definitely! Rush a fraternity or sorority...make friends for life. Hotty Toddy Yall!

I live the University of Mississippi! It is a very welcoming place, and everybody always seems to be having fun. Everybody is nice, and there is a lot of things to do in the town. Greek life seems super fun, but doesn't necessarily seem like you have to be a part of it to have fun.

When I first got here I wasn't a big fan as I was so far from home (being from Pennsylvania) how ever as the first month went by this place has become home to me and I couldn't have asked for a better environment, better friends or better teachers. the atmosphere, the campus, the people and the class are wonderful and i can personally say that my family was wrong when they said i would miss highschool.

The school definitely prioritizes football and Greek life. However, there are still enough people who do not do those things, so you will not be left out if you are not a fan of sports or Greek life as a whole. However, if you are not into sports or a big party scene it will be a bit harder to put yourself out there.

I did one semester at Ole Miss, the school is very clicky. Greek life is one of the only things that matter at this school. If you don't participate in greek life you are pretty much an outsider. I didn't grow up in Mississippi, I grew up in Hawaii, I didn't know what greek life was and it was very confusing for me. Of course, I didn't want to join a sorority neither did my twin sister, we eventually found a group that wasn't a part of any sorority for the most part but still went to frat parties often. I'm not a party person and I don't drink or smoke. I feel if you are from the south, enjoy greek life, and partying every weekend you will enjoy ole miss. Another thing I didn't enjoy was the fashion, everyone dresses up here constantly. You dress up to go to a football game, that was very weird to me. However, if you are into southern fashion this school is for you. Another complaint was diversity the school is almost fully white, there is a tiny percentage of black or international students. I grew up in a diverse school so it was hard for me. I did not have the best experience at Ole miss which is why I transferred to Grand Canyon University but it doesn't mean you won't enjoy ole miss. The teachers were pretty nice and I had a decent counselor. The SDS was amazing and super helpful. They had a lot of extraocular activities and groups. The campus is very pretty and well taken care of. There are minimal food options but still enough to feed you. This campus is great for anyone southern but if you are not from the south it is a big cultural shock.

The campus is absolutely beautiful. It's a great campus with plenty of opportunities to grow. There are resources constantly available to help you get prepared to get a job. The classes can be a little tough, but the teachers are just trying to push you to be better.

I did honestly did not expect myself to love the University as much as I do now. The campus is beautiful and I have found some truly awesome friends. My advice to students searching for a college is do not be afraid to move away from your family. It will be hard but if you push through it is definitely worth it. Find your people and have the time of your life. You only live once. Good luck

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself to make the most of my freshman year. What a student does their freshman year sets the ball rolling for the years to follow. I would also say to be true to myself and to be as involved in campus as possible. The people that become the most homesick are the ones who keep to themselves and don't take chances with college. I would tell myself to invest in a small umbrella for my backpack and a tool box. The last thing I would tell myself is to find as many scholarships as possible. The most amount of scholarships are available to high school seniors and the more you can put away from the start the more affordable college will be for you.
The best thing about Ole Miss, in my opinion, is the atmosphere. We have so much pride for our campus and the environment it entails. During football season,the strongest sense of school pride pervades through the historic town of Oxford. The Grove is where students, alumnae and fans alike gather to share not only that sense of pride, but the best tailgating in America.
The most "unusual" thing about Ole Miss is how we all put on our Sunday's best for tailgating before the big game. My friends that attend other colleges think that we are ridiculous, but everytime I visit their campus on a football weekend they seem to be mimicking our famous tradition.
One experience I will take with me forever is participating in rush and joining a sorority. It was incredibly intense and competitive, I do not believe any other school is as cut-throat with rush as Ole Miss. I saw many broken hearts and girls transferring schools after being "denied" their top pick.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Alcoholic jackasses need not apply, if you are gonna dive right in to the drugs and sex then you will fail and waste your or the governments money. Plenty of newly stamped alcholics leave at the start of every fall semester.
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
There are definately people that fit into those classifications, but I believe those types are at every college. I had a pleasant experience. I met some of the most intelligent, dilligent and down to earth people that have more potential than one could fathom. On the other hand, I encountered some of the most disgusting, spoiled druggies that were going absolutely nowhere with their life. Although these are broad generalizations, the Ole Miss campus has some of the most ecclectic personalities and one can run with any crowd one pleases upon admission.
The academic atmosphere differs on the Ole Miss campus. I saw a lot of acquaintences leave after a mere semester because of the party scene affecting their scholastics. On the contrary, there is a plethora of extremely articulate, intelligent individuals that excel with their academics.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
That registering for classes is poorly set up and the classes fill way to quickly and there are not enough sections of the important classes required for my degree.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Ole Miss is a decent university with many pros and cons but overall you will ultimately learn some very valuable lessons that will prepare you for the future that awaits you.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
For me, it is that i did so well in high school and I come to college and I feel like I am not prepared and I feel like no one wants to help or no one else feels the same way.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The University of Mississippi has one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. Also the people that attend the school are very friendly all around.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
One of the most prominent stereotypes at Ole Miss is that we are all a bunch of preppy kids, with way too much money. However, after my years here I have come to realize that more than half the students here are on some type of student financial aid. I have run across some of the most wealthy people, supposedly "confirming" this stereotype; as well as some of the less fortunate, completely discounting these statements. Here at Ole Miss, there is a wide range of personalities and incomes. We aren't all a bunch of stuck up rich kids.
Everyone knows that in the South, football is king. No other sport comes close to it. SEC football more importantly, is the most competitive, fast paced football you will ever see. Some conferences have their top teams year after year, but each Saturday in the SEC there is a chance that there will be a new #1.
As for other sports; Ole Miss Basketball for the men and women usually get decent attendance. As well as Volleyball and women's Soccer.
Every professor I have had in my college career have been great. All of them have been available to talk to; all of them honor their office hours, and are more than willing to set an appointment if you cannot make their office hours. I always feel like an individual in my class, as opposed to just a number on the role sheet. If I have a problem, I can always count on my professors to be there to help me.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
