Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
This school is a lot smaller than other schools I applied to. That allows for more student-professor interaction and is very helpful when a student is trying to fit in. Penn State Erie is also one of the best engineering schools in the country and the engineering school here has all of the new technology necessary for providing students with a quality education. Also Penn State Erie is undergoing many new renovations and new construction of buildings and labs for future students to use.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I would have known how truly cold it can be. I am from Texas and I have not ever seen snow before, so coming to Erie, PA, was a huge change. I was definitely not prepared for the negative temperatures and the feet of snow that Erie gets, but I have adapted and I do enjoy the colder weather.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.
Penn State Behrend seems best known for it's quality business program which is supported by the Black family. My goal is to get that quality Penn State education while attending smaller classes and taking advantage of more one on one with my teachers.

What are the academics like at your school?
Academics are rigorous, I won't lie to you. But the professors genuinely want to see their students succeed. They offer office hours and are always opening their doors to students in need of extra help.
The academic requirements are strong because they require a little bit of everything (general education credits). I think this is important because Penn State wants to put out graduates who are well versed in many areas of academia, not just one particular area of study. As you advance in your major, Penn State certainly prepares you for whichever career you choose. Wall Street Journal named PSU students #1 in terms of being recruited for jobs right out of college. Employers count on PSU grads to be well-rounded, intelligent, and dependable individuals; this is the product professors and the University aim to turn out each year.
Students are competitive, but it is more of a competition with themselves in that people aren't cut throat about grades and having to be better than everyone else. Every class that I have been in students have helped one another out, by studying together or forming study groups. It provides a better learning environment when all the students are driven but still willing to help you if you should need it.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I'm not sure I could say which are the most popular student groups because there are so many. Sports are a big interest, but they wouldn't make up the majority. Many people choose to go Greek, but frats/sororities would only make up less than a quarter of the student body. Many of the student clubs are involved in THON, the dance marathon supporting the Hershey Medical Center's Pediatric Cancer research and Four Diamonds Fund. Last year, there were over 1,000 dancers from hundreds of student groups and branch campuses, and they all worked together in raising over $9.5 million towards the Four Diamonds Fund, supporting families of children with pediatric cancer.
Students in dorms are very friendly and the dorms are a great place to make friends. Drinking and partying is popular, just as at almost every other college in the US, but its not the only thing students do on weekends. There are several options for students who don't want to drink and the University does a great job of promoting the alternatives and providing things people would actually want to take part in. Every month there is a guest speaker provided by the university and several student organizations get speakers and put on events as well. There is always something unique to do any given night of the week.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
The best thing about Penn State is that there is something here for everyone. Practically every major you could think of, any club you would want to join, I would bet money Penn State has it. The school is large, yes, but it's only as large as you want to make it. The more involved you get, the smaller it becomes. Teachers do a great job of making you feel like a person instead of a number, even in large lectures. They will do anything to help you succeed and genuinely want to see their students do well.
People always are impressed when I tell them I'm a senior at Penn State. They hear the name and automatically think great things about the school, the campus, the prestige it offers. This is another great thing about Penn State- it has a great reputation and almost everyone has heard of it. The downtown area of PSU is great too. There are plenty of shops and practically everything you could ever need is right here, just down the hill from campus. The school pride is tangible on campus and its infectious. It is rare to walk through campus without hearing "WE ARE....PENN STATE!" It's a great feeling going to a school where its students are proud to be there and be a part of the University.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
Honestly, because there is such a diverse student body, it is very hard to put people into categories. Many students are involved in multiple organizations so it would be hard to "label" them. Penn State has jocks and frat boys just like every other school, but they aren't an overwhelming majority of the student population. There is a little bit of every social group at Penn State- if you can think of a group, you'll find them here. I think that is one of the strongest things Penn State has to offer- the wide variety of student interests.
