I loved attending SBCC. I attended to obtain my AS in Health information technology. Many of my classes were offered online and in person. I took advantage of this to work with my schedule. The campus is beautiful with the best view from the football field. This college is connected tot he Beach so it’s a easy walk right after classes!

Since Santa Barbara City College is a community college, you get an amazing diversity of students. I have really enjoyed meeting people of all ages and backgrounds. Everyone is on a unique journey. The campus is incredibly inclusive in that way. SBCC also has incredibly affordable tuition and financial aid opportunities. They have great resources for students including transfer application assistance. They will help you plan how and where you are going to transfer. Of course, many students do not transfer, which is equally normal here. Unfortunately there are no on-campus housing options and off-campus can be very pricey due to the southern california housing crisis. Many students live in apartments or dorms connected to UCSB, but these are a ways away from SBCC and the public transportation could use some upgrades as many places do not have a stop nearby. Luckily, SBCC is right across the street from the ocean and has a breathtaking view. I love relaxing at the beach after class. As for the food situation, there are only a couple spots on campus and they do have decent snacks. There are, however, plenty of delicious restaurants nearby. Now, the most important factor is academics. As a biology major, I have a limited view of this topic, but the STEM classes are great. The biology professors are amazing and incredibly helpful. These classes are intense, but perfect for preparing students for transferring to a 4-year university. The largest class I have been in had about 150 people which I know is on the smaller end when it comes to lecture halls at colleges. These large classes are often split up into smaller groups for labs, so you end up with some fairly small classes. All the professors I have met are happy to talk and help students with almost anything. They understand that the majority of students are working on top of having a full class load. Overall, I have really valued my time at Santa Barbara City College and would recommend it to anyone looking for a non-competitive school. Nothing beats living and going to school in beautiful Santa Barbara.

Every professor I have had cares deeply about their students' education and enjoys what they do. The campus is absolutely beautiful and there is a common ability for socialization among all groups. Many of the professors at this city college come from the UC system and seem to be overqualified for their positions.

Santa Barbara City College is a wonderful campus. Probably one of the most Diverse of campuses you will ever visit. Everyone is very laid back in terms of students. There is always something going on at SBCC, you just need to be on the look out for signs and posters. The faculty and professors are very welcoming, receptive, and knowledgeable. They ensure that their students succeed their course without any problem. The food is delicious, our two cafes offer a variety of selections for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The view is absolutely stunning! I would recommend it for anybody who wishes to come to Santa Barbara

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Dear Felicia, Don't be discouraged if that professor seems to not care about you. Don't give up when you feel like no ones on your side. Those nights staying up late studying the difference in DNA between Prokaryotic cells and Eukaryotic cells WILL pay off. Getting in arguments with your roommates, although stressful, is normal and will blow over. Call your mom and dad often and tell them you love them because they will always be there for you when you don't do so great on an exam or have a bad day. Get out and be active, take your vitamins, take baths and most importantly invest in time to truly relax and watch your favorite TV show. If you don't take time for yourself, you will get eaten alive by stress resulting from college. Last but not least, make memories. Make the memories that you will remember for a lifetime and tell your children. College will be one of the best times of your life, trust me. Sincerely, Felicia Jordan Tetz

  6. Describe the students at your school.

Santa Barbara City College has a very diverse group of students. I have met those who work very hard to transfer in two years and I've also met those who seem to only care about partying in the nearby UCSB college town, Isla Vista. It is difficult to stay motivated with such a heavy party scene as well as being surrounded by those who only seem to care about partying. I plan on transferring to an area where there is a stronger desire to succeed in school.

  7. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Never say "no" to an exploration. Clubs and field trips are great ways to explore your interests, especially ones outside of your comfort zone. Use your free time to experiment, from clubs for slack-lining to coffeehouse conversing in Italian. Use office hours to revisit old teachers or to meet new ones. Take experiences as they come, don't wait for the perfect ones for your resume. You can always move on while taking the best out of an opportunity you've been given at the moment. Sometimes, throwing caution to the wind can give you more ground to run.

  13. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about Santa Barbara City College is definitely the fact that the library closes at 11pm. I worked full time and went to school full time during my first sememster and this made finding time to study especially difficult. Often times I would go to school from 9am - 5pm and go to work right after that and would sometimes be there as late as 11pm. Even nights that I got off at 9pm, it was pointless for me to make the drive to be there for an hour. The library should be open until 1 or 2.
