THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE TO A PARENT OR STUDENT WHEN SELECTING A COLLEGE IS TO DECIDE WHAT IS IMPORTANT FOR THAT INDIVIDUAL AND BE SPECIFIC. PRAY ABOUT IT AND ASK GOD TO SHOW YOU WHAT DIRECTION TO TAKE IN LIFE. THAN PURSUE YOUR GOALS THAT YOU ARE DESIRING TO FIND IN A UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE. STAY DETERMINED AND DON'T GIVE UP BECAUSE SUCCESS IS NOT EASY WHEN YOU DON'T GIVE IT A FAIR CHANCE.

There are a couple of things that I would say to parents and/or students about finding the right college and making the most of the college experience. The main piece of advice that I would tell parents and/or students is that there college choice should be based on a few key factors: importance of academics, teacher to student ratio, location of campus, institution's mission statements, types of majors and degree programs, and school diversity. I named these specific factors because I believe they are the most important when choosing the type of college/university a person attends.

WHEN I WAS A FRESHMAN, I REMEMBER THE MORALS AND VALUES MY MOTHER INSTILL IN ME. I CARRY THOSE SAME ATTRIBUTES TODAY. NOT CHANGING FOR ANYONE OR LETTING MY PEERS HAVE THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON ME WAS A MAJOR IMPACT FOR MY SUCCESS. I AM A LEADER AND I TOOK COMTROL OVER MY DESTINY. SOME OF MY FRIENDS PRESSURED ME MORE THAN OFTEN, BUT I STOOD STRONG AND NOW THEY LOOK AT ME WISHING THEY SHOULD HAVE SAY NO TO GOING TO CLUBS, PARTIES, AND SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AS I DID. I KNEW WHY I WAS IN SCHOOL AND I MADE SURE THAT WAS FIRST. AFTER LEARNING TO BALANCE THE THINGS I WANTED TO DO: CHEERLEADER, SOCIAL GROUPS, AND SCHOOL CLUBS, MY SCHOOL YEARS MOVED FAST AND THERE WAS ONLY MEMERIES OF THAT GREAT EXPERIENCE. I WANT TO INCLUDE THAT I HAD A SEMESTER WHEN I WANTED TO GIVE UP AND LEAVE SCHOOL, BUT MY MOTHER WAS THERE EVERY DAY ON THE PHONE ENCOURAGING ME, MOTIVATING ME, AND LIFTING MY SPIRITS THROUGH THOSE TRYING DEFINITELY HARD TIMES. OWE AND THANK MY MOTHER. STUDENT WHEN ENTERING COLLEGE HAVE GOALS SET, AND DONT LET ANYTHING STOP YOU. PARENTS BE SUPPORTIVE, ENCOURAGING AND LOVING.

As much more experience as parents have in life, the college education experience is unique to every individual. It would be best that parents simply support their children in this process. Telling kids what college to go to is not helpful because parents will not physically be there to ensure the students educational success. However, any advice that parents can give regarding their college experience is going to aid in choosing the right college for your child. Talking to kids before they go to college about serious issues such as attending class daily, studying, the opposite sex, volunteering, drugs and alchohol can be extremely advantageous to the childs positive social and acedemic standing.

Before choosing a college, students should think about what they want out of life along with their expectations. You should not choose a college that you feel will not give you a challenge. The point of college is learning new things and learning yourself in general. Make sure the professors really care about your success. Always visit the colleges that you have in mind. Tour the college and learn the campus. If you can, don't just go during campus visitation day because they can make things 'perfect' for that day in order to draw your attention. Try to go on a regular day also. Talk to students who are already in that college and get information because faculty may make the picture brighter. Parents, what your child doesn't ask about the school, go behind and get your own information, because young minds may only be focused on the social part of college.

Make sure that the school's programs of study are your child choice, and the cost isn't too much.
