I choose STC since it's the closest one to where I live as I still can't drive yet. The other reason is because it's the only college that has a culinary program that I would love to apply for.

In my opinion South Texas College is an excellent college that seems so warm and welcoming environment. The campus is filled with many friendly people who are eager to help. The faculty and the staff care about the students. I believe that South Texas College offers a positive experience for who ever attends.

I honestly think that this school is a good fit for most people because it's is budget friendly for people who can't afford many universities. IT gives many people different opportunities to be whoever they want since they provide a variety of different classes.

South Texas College was one of the main reasons why I wanted to continue my business route. It taught me some of the hardships in life that college student have to face head on and how you must persevere through it. My advice to the future students of this school? Make sure you keep in communications with your professors as small colleges tend to have small classes therefore you will be able to form a bond with your professor; This would greatly help both yourself and your career, as networking with those around you is highly important.

Overall, I think it's a great school. The administration and teachers are nice, very patient, and helpful and will go step by step to help you. The campus itself is beautiful and is walking distance to many stores and restaurants/fast food. The campus is pretty large and you can get pretty lost, but thankfully there's signs and direction boards everywhere in campus. Overall 8/10. :)

It is a very good school that offers a variety of opportunities with professors always willing to help no matter what! The campus really does care about the needs of the student which is a relief. Various tools are accessible online and in person if an individual needs extra help.

I have been a part of STC since freshman year as a dual enrollment student. It's an amazing school with a variety of courses that truly help us for our future. We are offered the same resources as an actual STC student and we get to participate with anything they do. We usually visit their campus for a variety of reasons. They are always so helpful and friendly, I love being a part of STC.

At first, I thought that it was not a good school at all. However, once I started attending the courses here, I learned that the courses were still challenging and I have learned quite a bit from my courses. This is an excellent college for students who are not financially stable (independent) and who do not want to leave the Rio Grande Valley. The tuition is VERY affordable and the education is a good value. There are not many bachelors degree programs, but many certifications and associates degrees are available and earn-able for the students who are willing to invest the time and effort. They have some great facilities. Their gym is great, there are a few individual rooms within the building for separate purposes (ex: one for basketball, volleyball, dance studio, martial arts, working out, etc.). The cafeteria serves some satisfactory meals, as well.

It is a good school with good people and teachers. I would love to see it expand more and be more involved with other organizations. I believe with time the college will expand and get better. It has great professors with good office hours. It would be more suitable for them to interact with students more.

At South Texas College, every student will receive many opportunities to succeed and complete your degrees. The environment is safe and the staff members are very attentive. The majority of professors are strict, yet understanding in the course to help the student success overall.

South Texas College is relatively small compared to other institutions, which makes it a perfect college to complete your associates. Having smaller classes is easier to study, and the professors are able to pay more attention to each student. With personal experience, I must say this is a good college if you are looking for a safe and calm place where you can finish your credits quickly.

As a dual enrollment student taking classes at South Texas College, I can say that I feel adequately prepared to take classes at any 4 year institution. STC has given me a wonderful foundation in my academics and given me insight on the rigor of postsecondary education. I urge all students to challenge themselves and pursue dual enrollment at STC.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Well some of the advise i would inform myself would be, to be more prepared by being more dependant. Dependant because in college people are not going to hold your hand. There you need to makes things happen not wait for the things to happen. I would advise myself that it is not as easy as everyone says, that inorder to pass with good grade one must strive for the best. In order to become the best you must study hard to achive the grades desired. Also that some instructures don't baby you and that when dead lines are posted you must comply with them or you have a chance of failure. Also to walt with your head up high, remember you made it to college enjoy it. Make every day like if its going to be your last one, and to remember to have dedication and determination to be what you want to be. Also to always work had because in the long run it will pay off.
Everybody is local and gets along great. As soon as you step on campus you already feel confident and know whats going on. Teachers are friendly and understanding and will always help you when you need it. On a personal experience the teachers treat you as if they were your own, a family in other words. Make friends easily and study partners are never hard to find. Overall , its an awsome school and it wouldnt be if it wasnt for the teachers/students , so I would have to say the best thing about my school has to be the people
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Well the worst thing about my school is that it is not a big school as a university. even though i like small classrooms i would like to attend a school that has many buildings. My school is the size of a high school.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
How much money I needed, because when I started a couple of years ago I couldn't go to school because I didn't qualify for finicial aid. Now I do but its not enough because just one book is expensive.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
South Texas College is small enough to cater to its students and make them feel like they are not lost in the crowd, such as in bigger schools, but still has the credentials to provide an excellent education.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
There is no person that can be deprived of going to school. In my school any one can enroll and make something out of themselves. The only things you need is dedication and determination and anyone can make it and have a future with the right knowledge. No one is let behind.
My school is best known for its teachers and the students who attend it. I have heard it is one of the top colleges in the nation and i can see why. The people there are friendly and they look extremly focused on their work. Everybody helps each other out and its never hard to find people studying together. They have alot of tutors and special programs for those students who need help on there work and thats what i love about this school. It's a perfect example of the title "Community College".

There is an absolute warmth and friendliness with the students and the faculty there. They care about your education and also do a phenomenal job encouraging and supporting you as a student there.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
When i talk to my friends i always tell them that in my school the maximum amount of students are 30. i always say that small class rooms are better than having 800 students in a class. The andvantage is more interaction with the teacher
Anybody who wants to be in the health profession or who are getting a higher degree as I am at this time, I am transitioning from LVN to RN and this school will make it so much easier to attend and complete.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I would say the most fustrating thing about my school is that it does not provide loans for students. They go off on payment plans that sometimes students cant pay.
The Cafeteria and on-site Barnes & Nobles are the only on-campus dining options, sorry no Starbucks in the Barnes & Nobles. Anything pre-packaged is over-priced, so just head down to the H-E-B on the corner of the street. List of restaurant's within a block radius: Blimpie (Similar to Sub-Way), H-E-B Chinese, Jack-in-the-Box, McDonald's, Taco Rico, and Sub-way.
Most people wear casual or sports wear to class. Some come to class with their work uniform on, usually nurses who are constantly on call. There are some people with the "just rolled-out of the bed" look, but there is no "dress-code". There is someone with revealing clothing every two weeks or so, but most people dress appropriately.
Extra-curricular and basics. They transfer out to most public institutions, even to MIT. The most popular programs like welding and interpreting are the certificate programs and allied health programs.
The classes are as small as 8 students and as large as 50. There is one course, Microcomputer Applications, that is offered in a computer lab the size of two computer labs. The classes have a mix of students from all ages, dual-enrollment, fresh out of high school, and returning students. Some classrooms have benches and others have desks that seat two people. The only exceptions are computer labs and the single auditorium class mainly used for the Bachelor degree courses.
There are no campus dorms, but there is are a series of apartment complexes right across the street. There are also houses nearby for rent. The surrounding areas are also undergoing upgrading with the construction of the new park and need-based family housing.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
87% of students attending South Texas College receive some sort of financial aid.
