Don't force your child to go to a certain school just because you want them to. Also make sure your child researches a school fully for the career that they want to major in

To look around. Get brochures and look on the Internet. Pick colleges that you "know" you can afford, and then within those colleges find things that best soot the parent and the child like cost, academics, meal plans, housing, enviroment, population, and so on. Keep narrowing your search down until you find the perfect college to attend.

Make sure to visit different campuses before deciding on which college to attend. If you do not like the layout of the school or surronding area your school life may reflect the negative attitude about the surrondings.
Christine
Know what the student wants in his or her college experience. If one knows the kind of environment and atmostpher he or she wants that will narrow the options of colleges to look at.
James
I would suggest that students and parents together decide which college suits their needs the best instead of picking a school that convient.
Christine
To find the right college you must balance how much you can afford with the best you can get. Scholarships are a wonderful way to help yourself out. Apply early for scholarships and you will be much better off! Make the most of your experience by working hard and getting involved on campus. Don't be afraid to be openminded and make new friends.

Lots of research!

Base your decision on academics, not the social scene. While socializing is important, it should never come before your school work. Also, choose a school in a location that accommodates your personal needs. If you like to shop a small town is not the place to be.

VISIT AS MANY SCHOOLS AS POSSIBLE. OBSERVE THE STUDENTS AND FACULTY MEMBERS AND SEE IF THEY ARE SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU ARE USED TO. RESEARCH THE DEGREE PROGRAMS OFFERED ESPECIALLY THE DEGREE IN WHICH YOU ARE INTERESETED IN. OBSERVE HOUSING AVAILABLITIES, PRICES, QUALITY, AND SAFETY. OBSERVE THE SERVICES AND BUSINESSES THAT SURROUND THE CAMPUS ARE THOSE PLACES THAT YOU COULD POTENTIAL WORK.

When looking at colleges, find out all the pros and cons. Try to do as much as you can while you're in college. Take advantage of the study abroad programs because that is an experience of a lifetime.
