Southeastern Louisiana University offers a supportive and engaging environment for students. With diverse academic programs, dedicated faculty, and a strong sense of community, the university provides ample opportunities for personal and professional growth. The campus is beautiful, and the student life is vibrant, making it a great place to pursue higher education.

It is a great school and offers lots of classes for a decent price! The majority of the professors I have had over the years are there to help you succeed. Classmates are even better and make your home away from home some of the most memorable times of your life.

I believe Southeastern is a very safe place with many resources for its students. The professors I have come in contact with have all been good at their jobs and help their student learn effectively. The food in mane dish could be a little better sometimes. The dues we have to pay can be a little excessive.
PatrixaKim - 09/26/2023
I really like Southeastern. The class sizes are very similar to the class sizes in high school. The biggest class that I've had is 50 people, which isn't bad at all. The food has been ranked the best in Louisiana and 35th place nationally. There are a lot of on campus activities, such as Karaoke and Pajama Night, Movie Night at The Berry, etc. We also have on campus police constantly patrolling and at night all of the pathways are brightly lit. I overall love my experience at Southeastern so far.

I have been attending Southeastern for a year now and it couldn’t have gone any better! Southeastern is the university to go to. The university is not crowded with people, safe environment, bright environment and amazing staff! I will continues to pursue my academic career here and I encourage upcoming freshman to as well.

It's a decent school, especially if you are not looking to go to an extremely large campus. It is in a pretty location, and there's a lot of opportunities to do things on campus as well as in the surrounding area. There's a lot of shopping, including a nearby bookstore that may come in handy for novels needed in English.

School life is great. The teachers are great. I like the location. I do not have to drive too much. Everything you need is right there at your disposal. All your buildings are not too far away so you can walk but if you do not want to you can drive, ride your bike, or skate.

Southeastern Louisiana is a fantastic choice for a school, especially if you're studying from in-state. Between friendly teachers and staff and an active campus community, there's always something to do on campus. You'll never get bored. Coming here is most definitely worth it.
A'Mya - 06/01/2020
It's okay academically, but the quality of life isn't the best. It's supposedly a good school if you are trying to be a nurse or a teacher. There is a really weak art department for both visual and performing arts. The digital labs for visual students are very old and slow. They crash often and you will be frustrated. It's a guessing game when it comes to performing art such as dance and theatre. You don't know if a class will be offered or not because of the limited staff. I wanted to take a theatre class this semester but couldn't due to financial reasons- it turns out I can't take it for two years (this and next) as it is in a cycle with many other theatre classes that are only taught by one teacher. Many other majors have this problem. I've seen it with computer science. You have to pay close attention to the catalog because it'll say something like "even year fall semester" which if you graduate in four years, that class will only be available twice in the entirety of your college career. And if its upper level and you're a freshman on an even year- you only have one chance to take it. If the catalog says "varies" it most likely will not be offered as you can see which years they were offered and they usually stopped in the 1990s. The school does not really care about members of the lgbtq+ community. They allow hate groups to come on campus to harass people of the LGBT community as well as women. There has been evidence of these people touching and yelling directly at people as well as making light of trauma such as rape and homelessness but the school refuses the intervene. Instead, they made one Instagram post about pride to try and shut people up and left it at that. The school likes to brag about its police department and the security poles but the police aren't required to go through safe space training and half the poles have been out of order since I started there. They also bragged about their "southeastern promise" which meant that they wouldn't go up on your tuition but then they started charging people "extra credit fees" for taking more than 15 credits each semester and the housing and meal plans go up a thousand every year. At least the bus system is nice.

This is my third year at Southeastern and throughout my time, I have grown each year. Before coming to college, I was very shy and did not make friends easily. Luckily, I joined Greek life where I was able to create my path for success there. Since being at Southeastern I have been involved in many aspects of campus such as Alpha Sigma Tau, Student Advocacy and Accountability Hearing Board, Student Ambassadors (two years of eligibility), and worked on campus in Lions Connected. Southeastern is the perfect school for students who really want to experience college and make those life long friends. The size of the classes along with how many events are put on weekly by different organizations set you up to make the most out of your four years. Whether you are making friends in the union, eating in our cafeteria, or even participating in Gumbo-Ya-Ya, Southeastern is the perfect school for students who want to want to be involved. This being my third year, there is no way I would be able to thank Southeastern and all of the students for all I have gained.

Southeastern Louisiana University is not huge in terms of campus size or number of students, but the spirit of the people on campus is as big as it gets. My overall school experience was great, there are a few bad eggs in terms of professors, but that is at any school. Thankfully the good eggs outweighed the bad in my experience and i would highly recommend it to anyone who asks.

It's a great school to attend. If you want a fun but relaxed atmosphere then Southeastern Louisiana University is the place. Everyone is so nice and I mean everyone! I could not be happier here. I also room with my best friend so it makes the college experience even better.
Aniyah - 04/13/2020
I was really impressed. As soon as I stepped on campus, I fell in love with the atmosphere. I felt at home. I can't wait to start this upcoming fall semester. The dorms were cute, the food was great, people were so positive, everyone was helpful, and the staff and volunteers were so informative.
KATHERY - 01/04/2020
Southeastern Louisiana University will always be my first choice, especially for the career I am taking. It is worth mentioning that the university has excellent teachers, who know what they are talking about, are friendly and always look for ways for everyone to understand what they have seen in class. Another advantage is small classes. From the first day you attend they make you feel part of the school, they involve you and consider you. I love that there will always be someone to help you, whether for academic, health, financial, etc. On the other hand, there is a huge diversity of groups and fraternities to which one can join and involve. The school environment is very nice and you can always feel as if you were at home.
Savanna - 11/26/2019
I feel Southeastern is a very nice school. It’s definitely one of my top three schools. The professors seen helpful and advisable. They appear to be approachable. Campus life seems very interesting. Many opportunities to get involved in whatever your scene is. I look forward to visiting more and possibly attending in the fall.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Southeastern Louisiana University is 87%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I'd tell myself to take more of my required classes early on rather than trying to mix them up with my core courses and to look for which classes can be substituted for required courses, there is some interesting stuff out there I wish I would have gotten into earlier on.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing is the financial aid program. The people that work in the office are not very friendly, and finacial aid is really hard to get. Also, when you do get finacial aid it takes a long time for you to actually get the money, sometimes school has already started and you have to find a way to pay for school and then just get paid back.
Someone who is looking for small college classes with an emphasis on working with professors willing to help an individual accomplish their academic goals.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The administration is horrible. They don't seem to care about you as a student and everyone has a different answer for questions. Students are informed of changes. I find they sneak new policies in to cause the students to spend more money in some way.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish i had known how much i would have to drastically change my study habbits. In High School i would just go to class and pay attention. Hardly any studying was necessary. Now that i am in College i have noticed that i must be aware at all times during class lectures and be ready to take notes at any minute.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
One stereotype that I hear about the students at my school is that we are all underachievers, which is absolutely false. Another stereotype I often hear about our school in general is that it is just a dumping ground for transfer students from larger schools who didn't quite meet the high standards of said school (hence all the underachievers). While we do have a lot of students that transferred from larger schools, the term "dumping ground" could not be farther from the truth. The transfer students that I've met have all told me that they enjoy the community environment that you don't really feel when you're in a classroom with 100+ people. They also seemed more than able to excel in their chosen field of study. If anything, our school is more like a stepping stone than a dumping ground. A lot of our students return to pursue Graduate and Doctoral degrees. There are students who will get those degrees from larger schools, but that usually only happens if the degree is something obscure and not offered here, like a PhD in Dog Whispering or something ( I don't believe any school has that degree program, but you get my point).
I decided to attend Southeastern for three main reasons. The first reason would be so that I could be away from home, but remain close just in case anything happens. The second reason would be because of their excellent music program. The third reason would be because it was cheaper to stay in state, than to go out of state.
No, most professors do not know students' names. I feel that professors only get to know you if they want to.
Class participation depends on how the teacher teaches and if everyone is engaged in the class.
My major is middle school education 4th-8th English/Science.
The most frequent student complaints is that most of the teachers are unwilling to help students one on one if they are having problems in a certain subject. Isn't that what the teachers get paid for???
I am usually doing family friendly things with my boys and husband. I go to church on Sunday and spend the rest of the weekend studying for upcoming exams.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
93% of students attending Southeastern Louisiana University receive some sort of financial aid.
46% were awarded federal grants.51%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
