Nestled on the shores of the Great Lake Ontario, this state university offers a unique college experience. SUNY Oswego, though located in a low populous town, brings together students from all corners of the state of New York, stretching it's influence all the way to Long Island. The remodeled and newer buildings on campus are beautiful and you cannot beat the view of the lake. Life on campus feels safe and separate from life in town, though only a mile away.
Students can stay on campus year-round and never run out of activies; from going to hockey games to attending school run conferences, from participating in recreational swim or flag football to viewing a comedy show, there is nearly something happening every week. For those involved in Greek Life or living off campus, the quaint town of Oswego offers rich history and a fair number of bars. The fraternity and sorority homes located in Oswego date as far back as 1866, though the Greek Life organizations did not inhabit these buildings until the 1950's. It is no secret that Oswego has dozens of bars, some historic and others new rooftop lounges. There is something for everyone who wants to let off steam after finals or catch up with friends over a drink.
Having attended three colleges, I can admit that SUNY Oswego has some of the best professors. They really care about whether a student is learning, not just participating in class. They are flexible when it comes to help outside of the classroom and are invested in you as a person. Some professors embody the belief that we as students are responsible for how society will think, act, and teach. It can give perspective and encouragement to young minds.
SUNY Oswego is more than just a good school, it's a great option for anyone considering secondary and post secondary education. With dozens of bachelor's degrees to choose from, and plenty of master's options, it is easy to put SUNY Oswego above many other schools in the area.

Overall, it is an OK college. The dorm halls can be really rough if you aren't in a newer one. The financial aid process is very backward and differs from other SUNY schools. I love the amount of diversity. Most professors are fine but you will probably have a professor every semester that isn't good at their job. Meaning, the academics are also pretty medium to lacking.

I’d honestly say it’s an okay school. I don’t love it or hate it, it has some benefits and some not so good things, but over all it’s not bad and I do look forward to going back a bit.
In terms of overall for the average person, it’s definitely an ideal scene, as it’s very easy to make friends, tons of sports to participate in and activities to do, and is not a bad school by any means, just average in my opinion.

I think that oswego is a great school, I am able to focus on my education, while participating in activities. I have made some great friends here and have been able to open up to different people from different backgrounds The professors are caring and are always open to helping students because they understand what it is like to be a college student.

I love SUNY Oswego. The campus is beyond beautiful, including the academic buildings and easy access to Lake Ontario. I am so incredibly glad I chose to attend college here, and I am grateful for the amazing opportunities it has offered me so far, and cannot wait to see what else it has in-store for me throughout my next 4 years.

I honestly feel as though there are plenty of good opportunities here at this school, but its small and the facilities and the things in this environment are not fit for young adults like myself. Not toto mention the weather and the fattning foods that were consuming.
I'll pass .

Nothing beats the sunsets in Oswego. Being a student of the school of business helped me build many connections on campus as well as outside. My professor were super helpful anytime I needed assistance with anything. There are many opportunities around campus, such as the library, the compass and the tutoring center.

My overall opinion of SUNY Oswego is that it is a great school with excellent value, and it cares for its students. The on-campus housing, in my opinion, is expensive for its value, however, the educational facilities and professors are welcoming and excellent, especially for the price of tuition.

SUNY College at Oswego is a great school. The winters are a bit harsh though with the wind and the lake effect weather. They offer many majors and the classes that I take for my major makes me feel secure in my future. I have mixed feelings about my dorm. It's calm for the most part but on the weekend, you can bet that everyone goes crazy, even during midterms and finals weeks.

I felt very welcomed when I started at SUNY College at Oswego. My professors are great and they are there to answer your question. The campus police help the community to feel very safe. There are many ways to get involved and I feel secure here because everyone is accepted.

SUNY Oswego is a really good campus since I have been enrolled here I completely love the campus environment. The professors here really work with you as long as you do your part as a student and express your concerns regarding the course. There are many facilities around campus that provide help for students. They are also efforts in place to help make the school a lot more diverse. There are numerous clubs and activities that students can join. The college makes that a huge point at the beginning of each semester with the student involvement fair. Oswego gives students a chance to learn about the environment and the resources on campus. I would recommend that this information be more available to students who transfer between semesters. On-campus housing is really nice. The RA staff really tries to make living in the dorms as inclusive as possible. They also make resources available to students who want to live off-campus. The campus keeps students updated on current events happening on and off campus. SUNY Oswego has done a great job of making students feel safe. If any illness breaks out on-campus students are the first to know. The only downside of SUNY Oswego is the winter season. Living on Lake Ontario has its pros and cons. It is beautiful in the summer, spring and fall months. Winters can get really cold, and if you’re not prepared it could be really shocking especially to international students or students coming from warmer places.

As an Incoming Freshman who recently attended a summer program held for students in a program that they're apart of , I do feel like this school makes you feel at home. As an African American Woman from New York City, SUNY Oswego and the town, Oswego, has given me a major culture shock and has shown me that this world has a lot to offer. You do feel welcomed and at home, when entering on this campus.

Love love love Oz! Unfortunately I'm transferring but it's only because I didn't have a passion for what I was doing here. I would totally stay if Oz offered anything agricultural, but it doesn't so I have to go :(
Res life is great, I loved living in Funnelle, west campus is the party side, lakeside is pretty low-key but they definitely know how to party, east campus needs to be avoided at all costs, central campus is pretty quiet too, just a fair amount of pot smoked by literally about three rooms in both buildings.
Academics are great, you can find some sort of support just about anywhere. Go Lakers!

I loved attending SUNY Oswego. The campus is beautiful, there is so much to do on campus, and the professors really care. There is an abundance of services available on campus to help with anything, academic or personal. The dining halls had decent food with a good variety. They also have an excellent selection of study abroad programs!

I am going to be attending this college this upcoming fall 2018 semester. I have visited the school this past fall and it was absolutely beautiful when the season was changing from summer to fall. I have also learned everything there is to know about the school online and I am so excited to spend my next four years here. The school has about 7,000 students and I may only take a lecture class or two. I really like this because I like smaller classes and I want my professor to know my name.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for SUNY College at Oswego is 54%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I gained a lot of studying skills, the ability to budget my time, and organize myself. I also broaded my social capabilities and became much more confident in social situations. I learned to cooperate with people from many different social backgrounds who value some things differently from the way I do. All of these skills are important out in the business world. You have to be able to cooperate with whoever you end up working with. In most cases, you don't get to choose your coworkers. Being tolerant of all cultures is important. Being able to budget your time well and stay organized is also very important. I also learned how to talk to clients and get the information I need to complete projects.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I think that there are not enough classes offered each semester to fulfill the requirements needed to graduate on time. There should be more variety and if a class is not going to be offered, there needs to be more communication within the school to let students know that they need to take this class during a certain semester because it might not be available for a time.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known that the vast majority of the students were near solely party-minded; I don't hold it against them but that's never been my idea of fun.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Most fustrating about Oswego might be he cold winters. It starts snowing about mid-October and does not quit till end of April. The snow is actually a lot of fun, and students sleigh-ride on cafateria lunch trays down the mountainious piles of snow. But, the extreme cold sometimes gets to you. Temperatures in February are usually below zero degrees, which make going to class difficult.
Academics at Oswego are pretty straight forward. It really depends on one's major and ability to focus in the classroom. As a business and graphic design student, I think if a student keeps a tight schedule and remains aware of their responsibilities, they should be fine.
When choosing professors, it is a good idea to get recommendations since some professors may not be as helpful as other or teach to your specific learning style.
I believe that Oswego is a great place to attend school if you are looking for a small college community. Although the campus space is large, SUNY Oswego is pretty small in population when compared to other schools across the United States. Oswego, as a town, is definitely a college town, many of the businesses here strive on our presence and are glad we are here to go to the bars, clubs, rent housing, and shop.
The best thing about Oswego is the ability to stand out. On a small campus it is not hard to make a name for yourself and really get to know faculty and staff. Although there are some large lecture classes, it is possible to become close with professors and really learn from their experiences and advice on your field of interest. When I tell people I attend SUNY Oswego, they usually have no clue what Oswego is, although this might seem negative it also allows you to set the bar. When meetings strangers, the way you carry yourself as an Oswego student can create a picture for the individual on what this campus is truly like.
I spend the most time in the classroom when I am on campus. Although there are opportunities to join clubs, it is also important to finish one's major to graduate on time when considering all of the General Education Courses. These might slow one down and make it difficult to build a strong GPA while graduating on time. Taking extra time in the classroom is important to academic success here.
Recent controversy on campus is limited parking. As we are expanding and building new parts of our campus, such as the science building, there are limited parking spots. This causes off-campus students to park there car a couple miles from campus and have shuttle buses bring them to and from their cars. This is a huge issue on campus that frustrated most students who commute or have their own apartments in town. As complaints have been submitted, there are no signs of change coming soon.
As experience I will always remember about Oswego is the ability to connect with our alumni. There are organizations such as the Future Alumni Network and the ASK Program which allow students to connect with alumni to create opportunity for their future careers.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
Some common stereotypes about being a student at Oswego is that we may not have programs as strong as other competing schools. I find that this stereotype is very inaccurate, each department has its own Chair and faculty that devote their time to consistently improving the curriculum based on the job climate.
I also believe that it is assumed that Oswego students are not diverse. As the years go by, as a junior I have noticed the campus become more diverse based on students region of origin, ethnic background, and exposure to the United States and the world as a whole.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
99% of students attending SUNY College at Oswego receive some sort of financial aid.
44% were awarded federal grants.73%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
