UTEP is a really good collages. I have had family that have gone to UTEP and they have told me that its a really good school and it has a lot of really good teachers. Also they have really good extracurriculars. If UTEP was a little more affortable UTEP will rise as a first option.

In my opinion, the University of Texas at El Paso sometimes has a bad reputation among young high school students, but attending this university has truly been an excellent experience. I've been able to meet a lot of people from El Paso and even other parts of the world. My favorite part has been the culture that there is since it makes it really easy to find and keep real connections.

The University of Texas at El Paso is an amazing school and an even better option for students. It's such a beautiful campus and the atmosphere and wildlife is just so exciting. I think that anyone who is interested in this school should definitely look into going. I'm a transfer student from EPCC but the experience of being around Utep is great. I love my classes, it is expensive but I think it is worth it. There are a lot of activities, talks, sports, and places to go around the campus. The classes are great, the professors are willing to help you if you are struggling. Making more connections with different people makes me go every day. The classes that I'm currently taking two are in auditoriums and it just give me intellectual vibes.

Overall, UTEP is quite a great school to attend. I could be biased because I'm local to the school's location. But, it is enjoyable and engaging for student activities, classes, and opportunities that they offer. The professors are always ahead in ensuring that the students are involved in the topics at hand. As well as bring an honest perspective to their teachings and how they engage with their lectures. I say this school is full of life for its size, and I don't regret enrolling in this university.

I personally enjoy this campus a lot. I feel challenged academically, I am encouraged to join organizations that are actually interesting. The community is amazing, the students love to help each other. My only complaint is I wish there were more scholarship opportunities available.

It's honestly pretty great. I feel as though especially those who live in El Paso feel as though it is nothing to be proud of or that it is a bad school but it is not. It may not be as big as other Texas University's but it certainly still just as good. I feel that because of its smaller size that the community is better and it feels more intimate. You are likely to bump into your friends or even have class with them. They offer a lot of great extracurricular activities and are always having events to get people more included. The academics are severely underrated. Of course there may be some not so good professors but every university has that issue. However, the curriculum itself is amazing. They really show that you do not need to go to a big, fancy, overly priced school to get a good education.

The University of Texas at El Paso is such a calm campus, and you are able to concentrate to be able to take your studies seriously. Occasionally we do have events to alleviate the stresses of school and socialize with others to create friendships. The university has many resources to help students succeed and I love the fact that we are able to turn to a group if we have mental health issues as it may occur. The professors do such an excellent job in explaining and teaching their students and if I need assistance they will tend to my concerns or questions. The passing rates in their Nursing program are high and its comforting to me because I know for certain that I am in good hands.

I lived near campus and participated in an online program. The teachers were fantastic and available. The other students had lots to offer as well. The campus itself is beautiful and has a history. I highly recommend if UTEP is known for your major.

It is not the best school in so many aspects. The professors there are hard on you in a way where you teach yourself more than they do themselves. Calling any office there is such a hassle to even get a hold of anyone. They do not respond to emails on time either. This college says it is cheaper than other schools it's really not but also you pay what education you get. There's a lack of professionalism with anyone who works at this university. Financial aid does little to no help with students who don't understand student loans and how to apply for everything. All courses are made for students who do not work and it is not flexible by all means. I believe this school can do so much better and make it less stressful for those who are willing to get a better education and paying for it. They seem to be taking advantage of what we pay per semester and I do not say it is worth for how much I am paying. Thinking of transferring and suggest others to look for a better universities such as UTSA.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself to be more open to the different networking that is available at the school, and not to be shy. It is important to get involved in school activities, but it is also important to stay focused on academics and not get distracted partying. It is also beneficial to attempt to make as many friends as possible, as they can help you get through school in several ways.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The way the campus is set up on uneven ground, sometimes I have to run up hills to make it to class in time, and it takes alot out of me. Also sometimes when I am trying to get things done I get sent to many different departments and get the run around or the things they say that they fixed it and didn't.
My fellow classsmates, coming from a very diverse group, are determined, motivated, kind, generous, and above all willing to learn and do anything to achieve their goals in life.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
The University of Texas at El Paso is helping me achieve my goal of becoming a Geoligist by providing highly educated professors, excellent learning facilities, readily available learning resources, and an overall satisfying learning experience.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known a little more math before I arrived here. I also wish I could have attended class so I could've better prepared myself as far as note taking and budgeting my time in class and after class.

The best part about UTEP was that it was next to home and algo that it provided the major that I was looking for. Also the labs for my career where brand new.
This University is more geared to individuals already living in El Paso whom wish to advance their education. Being the only big time university in the city, most individuals at this school are commuter students. Most grew up in the city and after graduating from high-school or attending community college for a while end up staying at this univeristy. It is a great starting point.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
To come to UTEP, you have to be open-minded. You have to be willing to interact with other people, not just your “own”. There are so many different types of ethnicities, so many different sororities, and even more, extreme variety of ages on students. Anyone who comes to UTEP can be a UTEP Miner, they only need to allow themselves to truly be one.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I tell people that I enjoy the flexibility of online classes. Also, I like that I am saving money by attending this school as opposed to going to the previous university to complete the same degree.
I think the 1966 College Basketball championship game where Don Haskins played a team of mostly African-American players and won the championships is probably what most people know about our university. But we are working very hard to become known as a prestigious research institution. We are in the process of working towards tier one research institution status. We are increasingly being recognized for winning major research grants and opening up research opportunities to a wide range of students from different backgrounds and socio-economic statuses. So, we are making much progress towards being known for our research.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about my school right now is the construction because we have to take long alternative routes in the campus to get to our class, but when this ends I think there would be no problem. I would say that the school needs more spirit and fun activities.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
At UTEP we have a variety of people from all over the place. Hispanics, White, Black, Asian, etc. Being that the university is right at the border of the United States and Mexico, the Hispanic population is the largest of them. However, since there are people from all over, we also have all kinds of personalities, we have frat kids, geeks, athletes, to name a few. There is not just one stereotype.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
i have never joined any of those groups but sororities and that kind of groups are popular. football and mens basketball are big events on campus. guest speakers are not very popular. i met my closest friends in orientation and in class, where you spend more time with them. if im awake at 2 in the morning im probably studying till my eyes bleed. there is minerpalooza every year, and its like a big set up to introduce the football team and they have games and food and stuff for the whole family. there is also a contest for sororities(very fun). thursday, friday, and saturday are party days for a lot of students. I went out partying last friday and rested on saturday as well as reading my textbook every now and then.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
