University of Arizona Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Kaylee

It feels just as big as it is.

Max

The social life for freshmen is very centered around sororities and fraternities, and I was not interested in joining a fraternity. Because I was not in a fraternity, it was difficult my first year to find other group activities where I could meet people. Coming from out of state, I had hoped it would be easier to make friends. As time has passed, however, I have developed a social circle that I am comfortable with.

I wish that I had known more about the involvement opportunities before I got to school and had my mind blown by all the different opportunites. I am interested in politics so I learned about all the involvent opportunities in student goverment as well as lobbying opportunities to the state legislature or programs to intern with our elected officials. I think it is definitely best to research all the programs that pertain to your specific interests, because I found that I have so many paths to pursuing my interests and I would liked to have been more aware.

There is nothing I wish I had known before attending the University of Arizona because any questions I had or things I didn't know I learned quickly thought immersion in the university environment and with the help of my peers and professional and knowledgable professors.

I wish I had known about bureaucracy and financial strains on a school. The College of Architecture had a fixed tuition rate for their students but those funds were raided for the economic restructuring university-wide. I would have finished my general requirements in their entirety before I applied to my particular program of study. I would have had more time, succeeded more and been able to be fully devoted to architecture, not splitting my time with other homework and driving to other campuses.

i wish i had known about all the clubs because they help a lot. For example i got into a program that helps keep track on how you are doing through out the semester and give you help when you need it. There are also many places to study and use your computer that i didn't know about as well as talking to people about classes. I wish i could have asked about the math department because it is very hard ang gave me problems as well as many other incoming freshman. Then also about scholorships and grants.

I wish I had known that greek life was so important and that the state of Arizona does not take education seriously, or we wouldn't have areas of study dropped because of funding or way too many students for the amount of space on this campus. This college is way more money-focused than "bettering the lives of students" focus. If I could go back, I would've chosen the other college I was looking at. I still haven't felt like I'm enjoying college and this is my 3rd year coming up.

I wish that I had known how different the atmosphere is at a university compared to high school. At a university, your teachers want you to do well and make an effort to help you. Most of the students are also there to learn and it is a lot less difficult to have meaningful and interesting conversations with new people you might meet on campus. If you want to gain knowledge everybody is willing to help you find what you're looking for and if you want friends, there's thousands of people you can make connections with.

To study business.

I wish that I would have known that school is a lifestyle committment. When I first attended college I was 18 years old, immature, and had not identified what I wanted to do with my life. I wish I would have known that education and knowledge is a gift. Everytime you attend a class and listen to a professor you're bettering yourself and able to help others. I didn't know that before. I'm attending school the second time around knowing that I want to learn the necessary information to advance my career in medicine and help others.
