Growing up with limited resources, it taught me the value of getting an education. Upon completing my degree I will be the first to graduate from college in my family. I hope this will influence my children the importance of getting a degree.
I see myself as a determined individual; things were never handed to me, I had to earn them. Growing up had its obstacles being the oldest of four, and only having one parent work a low paying job. This made things very stressful. There was one point in my life I wanted to give up and not finish my high school education. In spite of this incident I knew I wanted to do more with my life. Over the last 5 ½ years, I have worked for an energy company. I started out being a mail clerk and slowly over the years I have worked my way up to an analyst. This may be merely a stepping stone for some, but to me it signifies progress. Nonetheless I don’t want it to stop there, I know that a college degree would ensure that I could keep moving on with my goals of getting into management.

College has given me confidence to know that I can be successful. After being in college for a year my goals developed and changed. I now want to finish college with an accounting degree and earn a job at one of the top 5 companies. College has also helped me to grow up and deal with problems on my own. Going to college in a different state means my parents aren’t around when something goes wrong. I’ve grown out of the bubble created by hometown and have started to form more worldly views about life. I’m no longer a little girl, I want to have meaning in the world and do something to improve it. I’ve been exposed to helping the community through my sorority and understand the impact a small group can make on people in need. College has given me a chance to find a place of my own and create my own path in life. With the professors and advisors at DU guiding me I’m finding that I have the potential to be successful if I take the chance and run with it.

I got married at 19 years old and spent years working at jobs that paid very little and left me emotionally and physically drained. I returned to school not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. Over the past two years I have learned so much about myself. I was raised in a difficult family situation and didn't have much self-confidence. I have learned that I am an intelligent individual with a lot of potential. I now have a very healthy level of confidence and my future looks bright. I feel like I'm headed in such a positive direction and that I finally have a purpose in life. I'm amazed at how many opportunities that have opened up. I always dreamed of going to the University of Denver, but never thought it would happen. Through a lot of hard work I kept my grades up and am now there. If you would have told me before that I would be in school, I wouldn't have believed it, but here I am. At this point, the sky's the limit. I am not closing any doors. I'm open to wherever life takes me.

In my college experience I learned to strive to excel above my peers and it creates a self-imposed challenge for me and I am very competitive. Last semester I took the initiative to become one of the class leaders, in doing this my group received more extra credit on the assignment than the assignment was worth. It gives me great satisfaction in helping others to be their very best as I work my way to the top because I am the type of person who want to see everyone around me at their best because it challenges me to be greater. I learned the little push you can give a person may be all they needed to continue there education knowing someone else is rooting for them. I am a happy single mother of a three year old who knew her alphabet before she was 18 months. It has been valuable for me to attend college because I am trying to expand my education so I can provide a better than average life for her, as well as myself. I am taking every step to ensure that I can attend college next semester. Thankf for your time.

The most I have gotten out of my college experience is the relationships that I have formed with other students and faculty. Since each class size is almost always less than fifty students, it is important to speak up during class and create bonds with those around you because chances are you will have class with the same students again. Not only does sharing your knowledge help but communicating your strengths and weaknesses with those around you will also benefit everyone. Every class you have to work in a group and most groups survive through communication. Creating relationships with faculty has gotten my very far as well. Taking the time to go into office hours and learning about the people who are teaching me for the next couple of years may take time out of my day but it helps me in the long run. Teachers are the ones writing your reccomendations for jobs and internships and by making relationships with him, it has gotten me much further in the secondary education than I could have ever hoped for.

Education is a lifetime investment. My college experience has been a growth in knowledge and understanding of the world circumstance. Education has helped me become well-rounded and literate. Also, I have developed many meaningful relationships, giving me great memories.
College is my first priority investment of time, hard work, energy and money. With careful planning and financial support to help me attend an institute of higher education, I can experience the realization of many of my life dreams.

My college experience has been of value to me because it has allowed me to learn about new concepts and subjects, many of which I merely skimmed in earlier levels of education. It has broadened my horizons, giving me the opportunity to study the things I want to, the disciplines that truly interest me and work toward my degree and eventual career. If nothing else it has kept my mind active and up-to-date, as it would surely dull and become rusty if I had not continued my schooling after gradutaing high school. At this point in time my college experience has not been very lengthy or extensive, but I can l already recognize the advantages it has granted me.

There is so much that I've gotten out of my college experience so far. I think the most important experience was the learning curve of being away from home and having to learn to take care of myself and not to rely on others. Not only have I learned to do this but I've learned that it pay offs to start studying days in advance of an upcoming test, to attend every class no matter how early in the morning it is or how boring it is because if you don't you'll end up being clueless later on. This university has been so valuable to attend for so many reasons, not just all the ones listed above, because this university is a community everyone is in the same boat whether or not they're a freshman or a senior. The professors make a difference and interact with the students (mostly because the class sizes tend to be small) you have floor get togethers in your dorm building to help you get to know your neighbors and RA. Basically this university is amazing.

I have met people from different walks of life with diverse stories to share. I have learned to become my own person. A person with an opinion and a brain. I know where I am and I know where I am going regardless of the milestones I may come across.

For me, college has always been a way to completely immerse myself in diversity and to learn as much I possibly can from students, faculty, and staff. I could not have picked a better school to attend than University of Denver. There is no other place where comradery is more present. Before I even set foot on campus, I had thousands of questions and I called at least twice a week. Everytime I called I was always greeted, helped, and treated as if I mattered. Since I have become a full fledged student, I have experienced the same friendliness with everyone on campus from the brilliant porofessors, to the financial aid department, to to the woman that sells coffee in the library. I have benefitted so much from the University of Denver. I feel at home and I feel that every penny that has been put towards my education here has been worth it a thousand times over.
