One of the biggest reasons I want to attend the University of Houston–Clear Lake is that my older brother is also a student there, which makes the commute much easier. Beyond that, I was drawn to the university’s peaceful and scenic environment; it’s a great place to focus on creativity and learning. The digital arts program offers exciting opportunities to refine my animation skills, and I’m eager to be part of a community that values both artistic expression and innovation.

Honest I had a rough start in my first year, but I was able to improve a lot thanks to CTC, academic coaching, and office hours that I visited. The events I had before the COVID-19 hit were good with the good foods. Right now they are starting to rebuild the events to make it more memorable.

Preet

It is a great university in every aspect!!!

Melissa

I would recommend to a friend. When I attended back in 2006 to 2008. It was a school for the juniors and Seniors only. The students were diverse. The instructors were good and available when you need something. The coursework was challenging and engaging. I believe that they have incorporated the freshman and Sophomore years, since I attended.

Some professors, at least in the STEM department only care about their own researched and funding. Some professors love powerpoint and will quite literally just read the slides. If you’re lucky, you land a passionate professor. Most are accessible. Some are unreasonable. All of them want you to know their material well so there’s that. Ultimately, if you put in the extra work, you will get the education you’re there to get. If you just leave it up to them, you will not. The people are friendly but there aren’t lifelong friendships to make. It’s a commuting college, and it feels that way.

Aracely

UHCL is a beautiful campus with much to offer both in class and in life. Besides being surrounded by a large wildlife park, the campus staff is friendly and helpful to students as needed. The students are also very willing to help out other classmates and show pride in their school.

Shakira

I think it is an excellent university. I think this university is great for older students, or even students that have taken a break from school and are returning. The academics and professors are amazing and very involved in the students success. There are alot of extracurricular activities that happen on campus as well. I love how much support there is all around at this university.

Sydney

I enjoy it but I find some advisors to be very lack luster. The campus itself it massive and just beautiful. I believe it sits on well over 500 acres so if you’ve got nothing else to do on campus you can always go hiking. I think the parking pass is ridiculously expensive when we are already paying thousands in tuition though.

Kendi

I’m really starting to enjoy University of Houston Clear Lake. The environment is questionable and exciting. Everything is new to me, but I got use to it. I’m really struggling with some of my academics. My peers, on the other hand, they seem pretty “friendly” and they really know how to get their work.

I love University of Houston- clear lake because, it is not only one campus but two in the Houston area. I love how easy it is to access the school, and it is not terribly big as other universities. I appreciate the reasonable prices, especially the parking pass. This university has good professors for the all the fields they provide. I love the pride this university has and also, I love Wednesdays because we wear blue and green!!!

Zane

I like the school although I don't spend much time there outside of class and studying in the library. There are many activities going on about campus regularly and many events that are hosted by various clubs/ organizations. Class sizes have never exceeded 100 people which makes for a good learning environment and professors keep regular office hours and are easy to contact.

Karina

Very clean Facility, peaceful, safe. Professors are very smart and helpful. There are two new buildings that are new. Parking lot is very big with a lot of parking spaces. Restrooms are always clean. Students are very polite and friendly. The library has a lot of plugs to charge your cellphone.

Kelly

I am an online student at University of Houston-Clear Lake. I can not speak much about the campus life, but the professors are all very good from my experience especially in the Anthropology department. They are for the most part very knowledgeable in their subject areas and keep the class engaged with interesting material.

Victoria

The school is in a great location and has had some major updates lately. It's comfortable, has small classes, and feels safe. However, some of the professors are less than ideal and you can tell they don't truly enjoy their job and care about students.

Ximena

I love UHCL. The school is going through changes at the moment, going from a transfer school to a traditional university, which has proven to be a challenging journey, but together we have been able to succeed. There are things I would change, such as food and further help for non-traditional students (from which we have many), but I am sure that we as students are in the mind of faculty and administration, and we feel like we are the priority, and nothing else. I am proud of being in this school, and I look forward to seeing the way that it goes in the future.

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for University of Houston-Clear Lake is 64%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Don't worry! My college experience has differed greatly from that of American Pie. In fact, I believe the reason it has been valuable is because throughout my attendance I have taken glimpses into what motivates people to pursue a specific field, and upon reflection of these observations, has allowed me to sculpt my own expectations and goals for myself. Ever since I was 13 years old I developed an affinitiy for computer systems and even after associating a large pay check with Pharmacy practices, I took a step back and assessed my own positive qualities and returned to my original interest of one day administrating large scale networks and offering remote desktop support for large corporate environments. I took off the green dollar sign tinted glasses of the doctor or chemical engineer and instead saw with my own eyes that I would set out to do what I've always inherently and legitimately enjoyed.

  11. What kind of person should attend this school?

This is my first semester at a University, I have previously attended a Community College in order to get all my basics done. I think students should wait to attend a University until they know what they want to do and they are serious about getting an education. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do, and I think that is what Community Colleges are for, but a University such as the University of Houston, is for when you know what you want to do with your future.

There are thousands of groups/activities to choose from, so to even attempt to name the most popular would be an insult. It all comes down to personal preference and what each person enjoys, if you like it- there's a group for it.

  16. What is your overall opinion of this school?

This school is in a gorgeous location with many great amenities. The only downside that I have found with the school is that they have a third party handling parking and parking permits. They charge an arm and a leg for a parking permit (which to me should be free with the thousands we spend on tuition). Not to mention if you forget to put your permit up they charge you nearly half what you paid for the permit and refuse to approve any appeal, quite rude. Other than that complaint. the teachers are amazing and the community is even better!
