My name is Alec Arbona and I want to take the time out of my day to talk about University of Houston- Downtown, mostly known as UHD, and how it has been such an postive impact in my life. I am a College Freshman and I truly love mostly everything about this school, knowing there’s still more to know about. First of all,the way my teachers presented themselves within each of my classes was just amazing, and their availability was even better. I was able to pass with a 3.725 GPA on my first semester and I am extremely happy about it. I definitely reccomend UHD for anyone going into their first years as a college student. The affordable tuition, the variety of majors, and of course, the fitness center are all great components of this college. I personally love the Wellness and Success Center because I have a passion for improving myself at the gym every single day, and the gym they have here does not disappoint at all. It has every machine you need to grow. There’s 3 floors where you can access the weight room on the first floor, the 2nd weight room with a variety of cardiovascular machines on the second floor, and private rooms for yoga, zumba sessions, and more on the third floor. They truly have everything needed and I can’t stress this enough, the amount of amazing people i have met as I continued my first semester as a college student made everything easier. I feel a lot more confident now than before and I am ready to take on the second semester because I know UHD will not disappoint. Definitely recommend anyone to apply for this college, you won’t regret it!

In my opinion, the University of Houston-Downtown is a great place for higher education. It's located right in the heart of Houston, Texas, which means you're surrounded by a vibrant city with lots of job opportunities. The campus is pretty diverse, and that's a big plus, as you get to meet people from various backgrounds.
The professors are generally quite knowledgeable and approachable. They genuinely seem to care about your success, and you can often find them during their office hours for extra help. The class sizes aren't too big, so you're not just a face in the crowd. This means you can have more interactive discussions with your peers and professors.
The university offers a variety of programs, and they've been working on expanding their facilities and resources over the years. There are plenty of clubs and organizations to join, which is a good way to make friends and be involved on campus.
Of course, like any place, it's not perfect. Some buildings may not be the newest, and parking can be a bit of a hassle. But overall, if you're looking for a decent education and the experience of being in a diverse, urban setting, the University of Houston-Downtown is a solid choice.

University of Houston-Downtown is a small campus compared to bigger-name universities. They have an extension in the north-west side of town but they are limited to what programs they offer there. The professors are very caring but the person that is in charge of the education system there is a bit unorganized. I have had issues and so have many other students who are in the same program as me. Overall it is a great school with affordable prices. I just wish they would get someone who will take better care of the student's academic needs.

I think this school is great. If you like small classes we have them but if you like big classes we also have them. Student life is great there’s always something going on and people are always trying to get you to participate. Getting around campus is pretty confusing for the first week but after that it’s really simple. There’s also so many things you can do when you leave campus because downtown is down the street from the school.

Although the campus is smaller compared to bigger universities, in both size and class size, the more intimate setting allows for opportunity to arise for students who look for it. In the heart of Downtown Houston, as well as a stop for the rail, there is also plenty of opportunity to get something good to eat, visit the local museum district with relative ease, explore the Houston tunnels, grab something to drink, etc. The location of the campus really shines here.

University of Houston-Downtown is a prosperous school filled with elite programs, and great opportunities to get your dream career started successfully. The school has amazed me with their dentistry program. the enormous library, dorms and clubs. I would like to attend the school starting August 2021.

I really enjoy UHD, the food is amazingly good and it is in downtown so if you ever feel sick of the same food you can easily access more food within minutes. Currently at home because of quarantine but i am so happy waiting and hoping to start Fall 2020 back on campus. The people are really friendly and the teachers will push you to do your best. I recommend any new year student to start of uni here at UHD, I'm going to be a sophmore and I have no regrets of choosing this college.

My overall opinion for this university is that it's very small and more for people that are local there. Sports aren't really big here, nor is greek life.
They are mostly big on things that happen around the Houston Area. Something I like about it is the class size, its small.
You don't get the "college life" feel, but it's not bad. It's more cost efficient than many other big universities around the Houston Area.
Location wise- it can be a little dangerous at night, walking around downtown Houston.

I was scared to go to University of Houston-Downtown because of all the one way streets, but it was the best choice I could of made. Classes, professors and the environment is amazing! Who doesn't love lower prices on tuition as well! I would definitely recommend University of Houston-Downtown to my younger sisters and friends.

I wanna go to school for business. I took a look at UHD found it was the perfect match for me and in Texas a cheap place to live although I'm coming from out of state which is the reason for me to apply for the scholarships I have applied for. Plus I've looked into the school deeply I wanna go there they are selling it to me great with all features of the school down to the academics. I really need money for college there is no way my mom who has 3 kids and pays rent and more can pay for college getting paid 800 every 2 weeks there are to many expenses already plus she has to pay her loans there is no way that is why I want to go to this college I will absolutely love to show my mom that even though we are going through I can prevail and be an exan example for my brother. The school is Amazing I can't wait till I get there its a dream to come true.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
When I graduated high school I made the decision to wait to go back to college. After all the strugles I have been through to pay bills, fighting to get a job in an office, and working toward a future if I could give my senior self any advice, it would be to start college the following semester and to not wait. I thought waiting would be a good thing since at the time I had no clue what I wanted to do. Now, I am having to take classes that I would have been exempt from as well having to relearn a few thigns. I would beg myself to not make this mistake. However, dispite wishing I had done this five years ago I am happy that I am finally working toward a better future for myself.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating portion of my school is the lack of services that are available for those students who attend school in the evening. I am not able to get to those services or ask the questions because their student services areas are closed at 5pm. Calling is a hassle, I understand that there the students are a priority that are physically and capable to be there during the day, but I cannot speak to a live person, once I leave a message I never get a return phone call.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
My school is not on many scholarship lists. I have a very hard time filling in blanks that ask for the school name. It has many different branches and none of them are on any down drops for school listings. It makes applying for many scholarships difficult.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
UHD is a large and successful school with diversity amongst the student body, a sprawling campus, multiple degree programs, and classes that can fit any schedule.

University of Houston-Downtown is close to bus and metro rail. It is small enough that I do not have trouble getting from class to class. The professors are there for the students. Disability Services is available to students that need it.
The best aspect of this educational facility is its ability personalizes each student?s success. While attending this institution, I have been able to meet personally with Deans, Professors, Counselors, and administrators to resolve issues that I felt were important to me. In addition, I have witnessed genuine concern for personal differences as it is related to ethnicity, personalities, gender, and individual thinking.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I regreat I wait to long to obtain my undergardute education in this university. I decided to attend this university knowing that this was the right university for me
What kind of person should not attend this school?
The kind of person that should not attend University of Houston is a person thats going to choose to want to be a party animal. In college their is going to be alot more freedom. Parents will not be on your back, and your teachers will not care if you choose not to show up for class. So if as a person you dont have the restraint or self control to put first things first, then going to college is not for you. A person walking into this college like its the same thing as high school is not ready.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I love the fact that you get the college experience without being in a big university. Small classes and student-teacher interaction is not common among 4-year universities so the fact that UHD has the best of worlds is great.
I decided to go to this school because the tuition is lower than most other universities, smaller school, and the distance is not too far away. The classrooms are smaller and easier to find. There's many awesome people who're willing to help you. What I like is that this school has a floor where you're able to get a good view of the outside world. The library is pretty nice too; it has a coffee shop inside so that's pretty neat. The professors aren't too bad either! I also think the faculties care about the students' safety. There's also a lot of majors to choose from so that's what makes this school great. Very diverse. I don't know if I'll graduate in this school, but I hope to learn a lot from it.
