One needs to make sure there is an equal balance in school. One needs to have a social life and an academic life, and it is possible to have both and still achieve. One has to "train" themselves to know when to do what and make sure that everything gets done. To parents, do not expect perfection, especially in the first semester. College life is an adjustment for anyone, much less someone who has been under the care of another person their entire life. There will be mistakes, but the key to surviving them is to deal with them and move on. Perfection is not easily attained. Be there for your child, but give them wings and let them succeed. To students, get involved when and where you can but don't overload yourself. Your first obligation is to get your education; then have fun. It is possible to do both. Be tolerant of others, and even though you were the top of your class before in high school, it is not likely to be the same in college. College is about learning to accept yourself for who you are. You can make yourself whatever you want to be.

My advice is to find the school that you think will best prepare you for whatever post-graduate and/or career that you want. Don't let the fact that the school is too expensive, too hard to make good grades, too hard to get accepted into, etc. It is your future that you are working for. If you don't want to spend a little bit more money or work harder, then you are not really trying as hard as you should be to ensure that future. You only get one life, pick the school that will fulfill it.
