I genuinely like Upper Iowa, but if I had been allowed to choose to go to another school knowing what this school was like, I wouldn't have chosen to go here.
I came here to play womens soccer and the overall experience is a 6/10. I am very far from home so that is a very big toll.
The cafeteria food isnt bad.. its just the same things every week. They switch it up here and there.
The classes are pretty easy (freshman classes). The teachers are very helpful.

Upper Iowa University is an overall good institution with plenty of opportunities to help people become more educated and helps to prepare them for professional work. I would definitely recommend this university to others, whether it's the main campus in Fayette, Iowa or the centers across the nation, or even online.

I love Upper Iowa university, It's a small school with a huge personality. It's very small so you know everyone, which is nice and everyone is close. Athletics is huge for us. about 80 percent of the students are athletes and we all get along very well.

It's a great college!

I enjoyed going to UIU to get my undergraduate degree and am excited to be going to obtain my graduate degree. I am from the Waterloo area so I went to the Center which I very much enjoyed. Even though I took courses both at the center and online I would say that teachers were very responsive.

I think the staff and school are very committed to helping the students achieve their educational goals. The administration staff is extremely helpful and helped me ensure that I had everything I needed and was on track to start my classes. When I had a financial issue, they were very helpful in helping me figure it out, and ensured I got my money.

I love the environment, student population & diversity, & the interaction with my professors. It reminds me of a few local community colleges. I am strongly considering enrolling in Upper Iowa University's Graduate Program once I complete my undergraduate degree.

Upper Iowa University is in a secluded portion of northeast Iowa where not much happens because it is more secluded. Personally, I have never been to the campus but from my former classmates who attend the university, the campus looks pretty and peaceful. Taking online courses through Upper Iowa is also a great experience and is a good way to continue your education without stepping into a classroom!

Professors are always available, including weekends. Class sizes are small, so you really get to know your professors. Semesters are broken down into eight week segments which allows you to spend more time on a given subject.
Food is great. Entrees, mongolian grill, salad bar, brick oven pizza, Plenty to choose from.
The small town atmosphere may not be for everyone, but I like it.
Tasha
I love the school and the flexibility of the classes, I love the way I'm able to chose which classes I want to take. I love that the classes are every 6 weeks. The professors are always there when you need to talk or even if you need a better understanding of assignments.
Breanna
I think it is a great place to go. The class size is small, so the professor gets to know and work with you more one-on-one. The professors are very available and have come and met with students on the weekend and during breaks, if they needed help with something. The college encourages students to be involved, and their clubs can work around academics.

Upper Iowa from what I saw was a beautiful campus. As an athlete it was important to see what I will be playing and training in and the athletic facilities did not let me down one bit. Campus is small and the people that attend the school are genuinely nice. Coming from California and living in a big city, the campus is kind of in the middle of nowhere but, it is somewhere I can see enjoying the next four years of my life at. The Mongolian grill was amazing! The class rooms look new and nice and the student to faculty ratio is amazing to actually learn and not be afraid to ask questions.

To someone who has never seen Upper Iowa and was suddenly thrown on campus it would appear that students are always bored in small town Iowa. This is far from the truth, there is always a sporting event to attend or you can go down to the local pizza shop with friends. Students interact with each other daily and this causes the student body to become like a family. Visitors get this family feeling as soon as they step on campus. I did and that's why I chose to attended Upper Iowa University.

Upper Iowa is a great place to learn and grow! Even though the town and school are really small, the school does a great job bringing other things in and offering cheap or free extra things to go to. The people are all nice, and welcoming. The price, however, is a bit expensive.

Upper Iowa university is a college at small size campus that I like, very good on academic and culture and I like the fact that sport occupies more than 58% occupation and I always have a time with all my Teacher and my advisor. I feel safe at all times

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back and tell my "high school self," what the transition what like I would tell her not to scared, there are a lot of people on staff that are their to guide you through and on to the right track, you do not have to feel like you are alone just because you're not close to your family. I would say to get involved, there are a lot of great and fun programs to help you meet people and keep you from getting homesick as well as to help with homework if need be. I would also tell myself to go to Upper Iowa University.
Somone who likes to focus more on what they are doing. The two-class-a-term program allows for a lot of focus on the specific subject. Also, someone who likes the small town setting will thrive at this school. Classes are small, allowing the student to form bonds with classmates and professors. It is hard to walk around campus and not see someone that you know or recognize.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Anyone who has to have a McDonalds or Wal-Mart nearby should not attempt to come here. Anyone who loves the city should not attend this school. The nearest Wal-Mart is forty minutes away, and there are only a little over 900 students on campus. Our school makes up the majority of the population here in Fayette, Iowa. It may also be hard for someone to come here who isn't okay with different cultures and backgrounds as we have a large group of students from foreign countries such as Nepal.
I think the best things about our school are the Education Program and Art building. Education is the one field on this campus that I believe truly pushes students to go beyond and to try to be the best they can be. The teachers there have really helped to push me to be a better student and be a well organized individual. The Art building is one of the best I've seen compared to others I've visited. The building is new with all new equipment inside and a great senior studio. I wouldn't have last without them.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Well, first of all, I wish I knew the cost of a good education. The tuition for just one class is $975.00! That does not even include text books. In addition, I truly wish that I had made more of an effort to seek scholarships. I have taken out student loans in order to pay for classes, for the most part, because I am married with three children and I have to work. I cannot afford to pay for classes out of pocket. My wife is also working on her Masters degree, so we are streched very thin financially.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about this school would be the distance from larger cities and from shopping centers. We have a large variety of things offered either through the school or in town, but some objects you are only able to find in larger areas. In most cases to get to these areas, it is at least a half an hour drive, more in other cases.
All of my classmates are very helpful. Because of the small class size, we get to know each other very well. Also, the university is under 1,000 people, so you get to know those people that you haven't had classes with either. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and Upper Iowa University has the most diverse campus in Iowa.
My school is best known to me for its friendly and helpful attitude, both with the staff and students. I have always found it to be a really cooperative and supportive learning enviroment. The staff make themselves available to the students for extra help and even the students I go to classes with are exetremely helpful with any quesitons I may have.
Upper Iowa University is the best place to get a degree. Ever since the first day I set foot on campus I knew it was the right fit for me this small university is student centered with great staff who cares for each their students.
The academics at Upper Iowa University I believe are amazing. I get the help that I need when I need it not only by my professors, but also by other classmates. Our classes are very student interactive that way we are not only getting taught or opinions by professors, but are also learning from our peers. Everyone contributes to a discussion in their own way, and it really helps.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I have yet to hear any stereotype of anyone at UIU. We are all different in our own way. And we are also located in the middle of nowhere in Iowa and many people have yet to even here of Upper Iowa University.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
100% of students attending Upper Iowa University receive some sort of financial aid.
53% were awarded federal grants.56%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
