If you could be a superhero or villain for one day, which would you choose? I have often asked myself this question. I think most people would choose to be a hero; there’s something noble about risking your life for another. For some, a hero is one of those larger than life figures we find in comic books or on television. Others see the everyday heroes who live among us, such as the police officer who finds a lost child or the firefighter who risks his life to save your cat from a burning building. The actual definition of a superhero is ‘someone who possesses extraordinary or superhuman powers,’ but that can describe just about anyone given the right circumstances.
Remember when you were a child and your dad would pull a quarter out from behind your ear? That was amazing. What about when your mother could make the pain go away by simply giving you a hug and a kiss? That was pretty amazing, too. As we got older, we looked to characters from television and the movies to idolize; some of us still secretly harbor a desire to be Superman or Batman. Today, children fantasize about being vampires, werewolves or zombies. Thanks to movies like Twilight (I’m Team Edward!) and Warm Bodies (How could you not like R?), even those notoriously evil characters have become heroes, too. Like I said, almost anyone can be considered a hero given the right moment and context.
So, that got me thinking. What if I could be a villain who was really a superhero underneath? It might actually be interesting to take over someone inherently evil and see what reaction I would get by doing good deeds for a day. How weird would it be to see Freddie Kruger serving food at a soup kitchen or the Joker entertaining children at a hospital? I’m pretty sure both would cause a few people to scream and run for the doors. On second thought, maybe that’s not such a great idea after all.
Oh well, I may never come up with an answer to superhero or villain, but if you know of a superhero or villain (real or made up) who you would switch places with for a day, submit your idea to the ScholarshipExperts.com Superpower Scholarship before March 31, 2013.
