What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Dang I wish I did this or that
Regret fiddling with my thumbs
If I could just turn the time back
I would cease day dreaming and hums
Most likely listen to my moms
Urgently progressively active
Ignored parents very passive
Immature I was just cooling it
Just scared fraidy cat fits
Second round, catch the glimpse
On the other side grass greener
New person have you seen her?
I’m right here, ready
Now rushing to libraries
Computers continually
Working and contacting colleges
Agreeing with state pledges
Hitting the books for SATs
Instead of phoning with the buddies
Or taking my time on my ACT
So my parents wouldn’t look down on me
Every weekend showing initiative
To run fundraisers
Maybe to my guardians being attentive
Better yet networking with scholars
Getting up to try out for volleyball scholarships
Rather than pulling the lazy transcripts
Clear my mind of all the nightmares
Because my sister is no longer here
To show me the ropes,
Break out from the suspense of misconception
Knowing it’s okay, she gave that peace
So now I open the closet head towards creation
And keep that spirit that puts me at ease

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The two things that I brag about most are the "First Year Experience" which helps new students get acclimated to college life, and my apartment at University Village. I've made a lot of friends through FYE, and I don't have to share a room with anyone in my apartment!

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I would have known that the whole school is centered around the idea that you have to go to MCG, Medical College of Georgia. They do not talk about anything else besides that. They also do not talk about attending graduate school. If you are not going to MCG then they suggest getting a job in your feild and from there, you are on your own. I wish I would have known I would be guiding myself through school. The advisors can be unencouraging at times so I have learned to encourage myself.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I consider the requirement to take support classes is the worst thing about Augusta State University. The reason I think this is the worst thing about my school is because I feel that some students are not good test takers, and might be under alot of pressure while taking the compass exam. I feel like the school administration should allow students to take the test two different times in order to get a good feel on what level the student stands on.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I can honestly say that I have not come across any stereotypes at my school. My school is so diverse but everyone seems to get along. The stoners love the Frat boys and the geeks love the jocks and vice versa. It is pretty cool, actually.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I am only involved in the communications club and that is because that is the only club I heard about. I am ashamed to say that most of the clubs at my school do not do anything to make the clubs known. The fraternities/ sororities and the basketball team are the most popular activities/ groups at my school. The golf team is pretty good also, I hear. I met most of my friends by living in the University VIllages which is our on campus housing but it is not exactly on campus. You can find me there majority of the time. All the students that live there love to party but we can not have parties in our apartments, so most of us just go out to a club.

What are the academics like at your school?
I have had the pleasure of enjoying all of my professors but that is just me. I have had friends that have told me terrible stories about their teachers. My favorite class was my political science class. Although I passed the class with a low grade, I really enjoyed the class. He just overloaded us with work but I did learn a lot and he was such a entertaining teacher. That class actually brought me closer to one of my friends because we would always have the most in depth conversations after class. My major however, is communications. I love public speaking, especially if I am passionate about the topic. Along with public speaking, I love writing so I also want to get into journalism.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
I love the classes; the professors are awesome for the most part. I also like the fact that the school is putting a lot of effort to make our college experience better. They are now creating all kinds of activities for use to do. What I do not like about my school is the fact that we do not have a football team, which means no homecoming. I also think the school is a little too small. It is easy to learn someones personal business at this school. The town is okay, it is not in the middle of nowhere so there are different things you can do during your free time but you need a car. They could also work on improving the financial aid process, but I think it's the same for most schools.

What are your classes like?
Classes are not bad, you just have to be on top of your work and make sure you have a good relationship with your teachers. The good thing about my school is there is always a way to get help. They have a math lab, english lab and tons of tutors so there really is no excuse.
