American Musical and Dramatic Academy is one of the best choices you could make if you want to succeed in the performing arts. The main motive of the school is to prepare all students for the reality of the industry and they equipped us with all the tools and skills we need for auditions and the professional world What we call a triple threat is the correct way to describe AMDA students. AMDA was voted in the playbill as the second school, that provides Broadway with actors (last year). Meaning that 42 AMDA students were working on Broadway productions. What I love the most about our school though, is the connection we have with most of our teachers. They are all very familiar with our field and they have a way to teach us with simple words the foundations we need to be able to create on our own, to build characters, and most importantly how to show our unique selves to the world! The only thing I would have wanted to be slightly different would have been the food. There are many options but not very good most of the time.

This is my first year at AMDA and I enjoy it a lot here. You get to be in classes that have professors who are actors. They are doing what we want to do, which means we are being given information that will help us book gigs. I have met a lot of people here who are close friends of mine. The views of the city you get are amazing. The dorm buildings are right in the heart of Manhattan, so you have access to everything. The housing situation isn't the greatest, but it also isn't the worst thing out there. Overall, I think it's something to look into.

My school is a prime example of you having to prove how dedicated you are to your craft. this is so important for artists of all kinds. something my school does well is giving you several chances and means of becoming an individual adult. The teachers are working actors, dancers, ect which was such a smart decision on my schools part because we get so much exposure to the constantly changing realm of our respected fields. HOWEVER my school severely lacks in making outside of academic life comfortable. Several students including myself believe tuition is too high, and doesn't accommodate as far as resident life, food, and student resources. it has gotten better, but my school does not take student concerns serious enough. Even staff is treated unjust. there's a difference between being being an adult over situations and showing more care towards students. #Scamda

First and foremost, I've only attended the Los Angeles campus, so I can't say anything about the New York campus. Now that that's out of the way—I know that opinions of AMDA may be pretty polarized, but I honestly think it's a great school. By far, the best thing about this place will always be the teachers. Literal creative geniuses, the lot of them. (Shout out to Joel!) As a bonus, since they're all working pros, you're already making some really great industry connections. On the other hand, I think the biggest downside of AMDA is the campus. While LA has countless opportunities for both work and fun, being located smack dab in the heart of Hollywood means that we don't get a lot of real estate and off-campus safety isn't exactly guaranteed. Our surroundings aren't very pretty, either. Before I finish, here are some other quick opinions/advice I have: Shows/productions are 10/10. Café food is 7/10. Franklin dorms are 8/10—I can't speak for the other buildings. You can take classes outside what you're typically supposed to, just be persistent and ask the right people. CHOOSE YOUR TEACHERS—you have the power (work the system. do it.), and it's very worth it to do so. Every. single. one of us. is a performing arts kid—keep that in mind and consider it deeply; you'll be spending four to eight semesters surrounded by theatre nerds. Whew. Ok. All in all, if you know for SURE that you wanna be in the performing arts, and you're both very focused and willing to make a few sacrifices (such as living in Hollywood—bleuurrgh) to do it, AMDA can provide solid education/training and some really great connections to help you get wherever you wanna go.

    If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would know exactly what to say. I would tell myself that the ones who doubt you should not determin how you live your life. All of the negative energy should be converted to a positive so you can focus on your goals. Making the transition can be scary but it is a part of grownig up. Things are going to seem as if the world flipped upside down. It is important to stay open minded to the situation and try new things. dont block out the experience. Take it in and learn from it. The world will continue to move on with or without you. You can either go with it and pave the road, or you can sit back and follow. You wont make history following society is easy. Make your life and fight for it. Though you may get cut or beaten on the way, but its worth knowing that you are making your own way.

    My classmates at AMDA are probably the best people so far that ive known going into this professional career of being a performer. I consider them to be very close and dear to me because i absolutely love being with a group of hardworking individuals who have bright dreams in their head. They all know what it means to be focused and to come into class and be ready for what is going to come at them, which i love even more about them, their preparation and dedication. Im going to be right by their side pushing forward with them.

    The way the classes are schedled is very diffenent than most school. Its set up kind of like high school. you have a set schedule each semester of calsses you are required to take. There are a couple choice classes but for the most part you have what the program is set as and everyone takes the same classes depending on your program. It is also a performance based school so all of your classes have practical aplication to them and are designed to help you in your career path.

    Students recieve individualized attention. This is necessary in a performing arts school, but the teachers seem to genuinely have the students' best interests at heart.

  7. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

    Well, I have yet to attend the school; but, I am visiting the campus before my year starts in October. I will ask as many questions as I find necessary: what do I need to bring, how many people will be in the classrooms, do I get private voice lessons, where are cheap places to eat around the campus, what is there to do for fun that is near. Anything that I have prepared or think of, I will ask. I am very fortunate to have the time to prepare myself for school.

    There are RA events every weekend. We have a summer beach trip and a fall dance. We sometimes get free Pantages tickets.

    If you are Driven, and Have a passion for music, theater and Dance,this is the school for you. AMDA is a conservatory that provides students with many opportunities to do what they love best. The American Musical and Dramatic Academy is full of professional teachers who guide their students and train them to their fullest potential. If you want your dreams to come true, you must work for it at this school.

    The most fustrating thing about the American Musical and Dramatic Academy is their ability to provide they're students with scholarships. They don't offer very many scholarships as that of a fairly large college or university would. If you don't already have scholarships to be at AMDA it is quite hard to find ones that meet the criteria of this school.

    We are obnoxious and full of ourselves. It's not true. We are just eccentric. As most theatre people are!

  13. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

    The worst thing is the finatial aid dpartments and that they charge for everything at the school. We are already paying a lot to go to the school and on top of it they charge way too much for laudry, hosuing, copying, music, food, parking and pretty much everything. It just seems like all they are after is money. There there no one I have met that seems like they are trying to help you pay for the school let alone find you scholarships and other ways of paying for the school, or sympethetic to those who are stuggling finatually.

  14. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

    When i talk about my school to my friends and family I brag about the intracate style of teaching which enables you to totally and completely enhance your talent. The alumni have great resumes becuse of the skills they have aquired through my school. I tell them that all of the instructors are working in the entertainment industry as well and the networking opportunities are great.
