What are the academics like at Auburn University?

Allie

I feel like my classes are the perfect size. Although some of them have up to 100 people, I still feel like I am getting everything out of the class and learning to my full potential. My favorite class is actually my biggest one, history. To me, the enjoyment of the class is all about the professor. My professor is very involved with the students and makes class fun! class participation is a major part of the class. Academic requirements are tough, but I like it because it further encourages me to do my best! Auburn's education is mostly geared towards getting jobs because the advisers help so much to get the students involved with internships and jobs in the future.

I feel that some classes are more student involvement oriented than others. I am currently enrolled in one of the first classes where student participation was neccessary and I have enjoyed it very much. I think if classes were more participation oriented that they would be much more interesting.

I like how most classes, once you are done with your core classes, are relativley small at Auburn. That way, you can actually get to know your teacher, and vice versa.

Katherine

When I first came to Auburn I was extremely nervous about large classes, having gone to a small private school all my life. But now, I actually enjoy the large classes more. I like having a mixture of both small and large classes. It gives me something to look forward to about each class and more variety.

My favorite class at Auburn was gothic literature taught by Dr. Gresham. It wasn't the topic that was taught, although it was very interesting to approach such gothic books in the way that Dr. Gresham had us do, but the teacher who taught it. We didn't just sit there and talk about setting, theme, chracters and such but we analyzed it in intense class discussion. It was an hour and a half class that felt like it was 15 minutes. He engaged the class in discussions everyday that never got dull. Professors are really good at learning names and being able to take roll while everyone is walking into class, and I really appreciate that, it makes you feel known. I feel I get a lot of help out of my department. Whether its encouragement to apply for scholarships, or help to find internships or just getting into the right class, the teachers and guidance are more than willing to go out of their way to help a student. The education is definately geared toward learning more than you can get this career with this major, which I appreciate but I would also like to have an idea of what else I can do rather than the typical write for a newspaper.

I have had some extremely good professors, as well as, some extremely terrible ones. One of the problems is that Auburn is a research University, which means, alot of the professors come here from other countries to do research. It is a great program but frustrating to have that communication barrier wish some teachers. I love my major. I am a nutrition/dietetics major, and its really hard but i love it so much.

Sarah

My biggest problem here was not knowing WHAT to major in. I think all freshmen should have to take a class in which the sole purpose is to explain different occupations and what each kind of job entails and how much school is required for it so they can get a feel for what they want to do.

Kris

The professors are all really trying to help out their students. They may not all know your name, but they would know your face.

Brooke

I have loved all of my teachers
