I am currently a dual enrollment student at Austin Peay University. I love being able to experience the college side of things before I start college. It gave me a perspective that showed me I would like to continue school and possibly go to Austin Peay for it.

It’s a lovely school, there’s a good environment as well between students and teachers, everyone is nice and you aren’t just a number, they will know your name and face. Not only that but the dorms are homey. Especially for the hotel style rooms. It feels like you’re at your own home with how everything’s set up.

Austin Peay State University is a unique place. The school has tons of support from the community, and it is greatly involved within the community. New buildings and parking lots are being built throughout the campus. Class sizes are small which make it a great space to truly learn. Professors are always willing to help students. The campus is also a short drive to Nashville.

This is a great school for someone who has grown up in the city of Clarksville. The campus makes you feel right at home because right away you feel a sense of community. It really seems like everybody is here to help and genuinely cares about your success. One of the first things I noticed my first year here was how friendly everyone was. As a college freshman, it was definitely appreciated how easy everything was made for us. The transition period was personally my favorite time here. There are great professors here that are reasonable and understanding. I thought college was going to be terrifying, and maybe it would have been had I not gone to Austin Peay State University.

I have not attended Austin Peay as a traditional freshman student yet, I am currently enrolled to enter as a freshman fall of this year (2020). Although, I have had dual enrollment classes in Math with the school and I have attended many events involving my major at the school. So far, the school has been wonderful, kind, and respectful to all students I have seen and the teachers, at least in the music department, are always excited to help students in their studies.

Austin Peay is a school that gives you what you put into it. Your experience directly relies on your own mindset and what you want out of the academic life. I love all my classes regardless of subject matter and every time I did something outside my comfort zone I felt better about myself while gaining more confidence. Austin Peay is also an affordable option but parking is difficult at the beginning of every main semester. There are many opportunities available when going to Austin Peay you just have to look for them and go for it.

This school is a joke. If you want an easy, fly by night university that will not prepare you for the real world and no job takes seriously because it accepts everyone with a heartbeat, then this is your place. You can literally sleep through the classes and get an A. Teachers will often cancel classes, there is no organization. All this school really cares about is getting your money because you are a number to them.

Overall, Austin Peay is a great school! It is known that most locals come to school here, yet over the past couple years it has become more popular to out of state students, like myself. The community feel is great, although the downtown atmosphere isn't great. There is one bar near campus and a couple expensive restaurants. The academics is great, so much easier than high school work.

Austin Peay State University has a great balance of academic and social life! The students show up for sporting events as week as panels discussions with the same amount of energy and excitement. Austin Peay has amazing food options and good campus living!

It is a great school for academics. I have experienced nothing but support from staff and professors for any extra help that I need for classes. They offer classes in conjunction with your current classes taught by graduate students to make sure we understood everything the professors taught us. The library is open late and very accommodating and comfortable. The Financial Aid Office can be a nightmare to deal with but the people who work there try their best. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. The professors are very caring and compassionate.

The school needs to do better at making sure that students are treated like a priority. As a student here, barely any of the faculty has shown any compassion. My adviser literally abandoned me because I decided to start taking online classes after my first year. I took online classes because I didn't feel comfortable on campus either. The housing department doesn't fully accommodate students to make them feel comfortable. They don't help with disputes between roommates. Most of the faculty don't care about you succeeding, they just care about getting paid.

I had a great experience my first year at Austin Peay state university. There are so many opportunities to get involved on campus. Events are held everyday in fall and spring semesters. I personally love small talk events and attending lectures. The food is great, the people are fun, and the professors are there to teach.

They are very welcoming to adult learners which is a plus considering most adult learners find it difficult to go back into the classroom with someone that's not a peer.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Honestly, I have made some bad decisions regarding college and I would go back and warn myself not to do these things. My two biggest mistakes were: making my job at a fast food restaraunt a career instead of just a part time job, and trying to have a family before graduating from college. I would tell myself to not get into my job so much and just keep it as a part-time job to help pay for school. I would also tell myself that it is not a good idea to move out and start a serious relationship when i should be concentrating on school. I believe those are my two biggest mistakes.
Austin Peay State University is located in a military town, therefor there are many different types of people from many different types of backgrounds. The atmospehere is friendly and open. Because of the diversity on this campus, it creates for a better learning enviornment. I have expereinced good class discussions due to diverse community. There are also a lot of nontraditional students. No one ever feels out of place!
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
My university is amazing. The classes are small so students receive tons of one on one time. Tutoring and academic support is available for everyone. The Professors give out their numbers, emails, and office hours so students can get in touch with them. In other words they always make themselves available. The dorms are nice. Finally, we receive tons of free stuff: shirts, dinners, school supplies, etc.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Austin Peay's school spirit I feel like could have sometimes been better. While I was surrounded by people that loved going to athletic events more students could have supported our football team. In the time of my undergraduate career our football team had only won one game and while this is disappointing supporting our team is imporant in maintaining a positive outlook on the football season.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
If a person is not hard working, cannot make good grades, or be involved they should not attend. If you are farther south than Clarksville, and do not like the cold, you might not like it at the end of the fall. It gets cold quickly and snows. If a person is undecided about what field to go into, I would suggest a smaller school or two year school until they find out. A lazy person really should not go here.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The library needs to be updated. Most of their books are outdated. The school also requires unnecessary courses such as P.E. and some others not related to you major.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
