It has a beautiful campus in the mountains, however, the south side of campus is a little sketchy at night because of the location. Lots of homeless around and the smell of weed. The party life is not too crazy; most students focus on academics. The housing situation is not dire, but there is definitely not enough for everyone to live on campus, and with the housing method being recently changed, it is even harder to get housing if you are not a freshman. There are not many amenities in the on campus dorms, except for Palmetto, but they are pretty safe compared to the off campus ones. The class sizes are nice because of the small student body, making it easier for one on one engagement with teachers. The meal plans are a little frustrating sometimes due to there being only one meal swipe a day and the UC being closed on weekends, which houses most of the meal options. Crossroads dining hall is pretty nice, but the breakfast is terrible and they frequently run out of food, which is fine if you're willing to wait a few extra minutes, but not if you have class soon. Overall, it's a pretty nice campus but could do with some amenity updates or more open hours on the weekends.

The university is in a fairly rough area… But campus security is usually on point. The only complaint I have is the parking. They oversell the general lot passes and undersell the reserved lot passes. It’s extremely frustrating when you’re trying to get to class on time and you have to drive around the lot for an hour looking for a spot. It’s usually pretty inconvenient, but if you get there early, then you shouldn’t have any issues. Time management is a big thing when you’re deciding to park somewhere, especially if you have to walk far. The food is pretty good, the only bad thing about it is that they don’t take cash or gift cards. The school is undergoing some renovations right now, so most of the older buildings are getting better. I could name a few elevators on campus that have literally scared the life out of me but for the most part, everything is relatively new. My favorite area is the library. It’s amazing in there. The whole campus is usually clean and there are always people outside hanging out. Usually most days when you walk around campus, something is going on. Whether it be something for the Greek letter people or just university sponsored events. One time I was walking around randomly and I got to do goat yoga it was so fun and super unexpected. There’s a lot of free stuff to do on campus if you’re ever bored and the calendar is a pretty good way to find all of it.

My general opinion of UTC is that it is a generally good campus. I haven't had any issues getting around to my classes, yet. The people I've met have been quite pleasant and unique. The walkways around the main campus was usually quite well maintained.

I loved the area surrounding the college, the aquarium and the shops. I also love the dorms at Chattanooga because compared to other dorms at other colleges they are much more spacious. I love the artistic environment and I love the community. I am excited to attend.

I chose the University of Tennessee Chattanooga for my Bachelors degree two and a half years ago for multiple reasons. I enjoy how close it is to local supermarkets, how much the campus cares about student engagement, the student success rate, internship opportunities and accessibility to a good job upon graduation. In the two and a half years that I have gone to school here, I have not been disappointed. The campus is clean of drugs and alcohol and works hard to remain that way. Campus life is vibrant and engaging, and it truly feels like a second home.

I absolutely love UTC. My favorite thing when I started my freshman year of college was the community-like atmosphere that UTC provided. The people on campus including the students, professors, and staff treat each other like family. We were all there to help each other grow and be there for each other and that was one of my favorite things about this campus. I felt like there were my “little family/home-away-from-home” after a while. There are plenty of extracurriculars open for a vast variety of interests and it’s super easy to join. The academics are by far one of the best academic programs I’ve ever seen. The professors make themselves more than available and they truly care about your success. You can tell they are passionate about what they teach and they genuinely want you to do well. I always find myself having professors offer time outside of their office hours and resources when I truly need it and it means a lot. The food definitely isn’t the best, but you can tell the school makes an effort to have it as high-quality as possible and most of the time it’s pretty good. The financial aid in the bursar's office is probably the school's biggest weakness. The counselors are extremely uneducated and they mess up a lot of the time. I would never go to them for advice because they messed up my situation so many times and caused me much difficulty. I would take matters into your own hands and terms of that. Otherwise, I still love the school and I’m so blessed and grateful that I attend.

Overall I think the university is fantastic, the professors and more then typically amazing about getting back to you within the day, some even give us their phone numbers for emergencies. some places on campus have better food then other spots. Same with the housing, some spots are better then others but for the most part its a fantastic small campus with LOTS of opportunities outside of the classroom.

UTC has a very inclusive and encouraging environment. There are many extracurricular activities for anyone to be a part of. The food options aren't always amazing, but it's better than nothing. Housing is great if you live in the right places like the more updated dorms. The city has a great outdoor environment and other options for people of all kinds.

I have loved my experience at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga! I am currently a Junior and am studying Business Marketing. Most of the professors are super helpful and are available after class if you have any questions. They want to see you succeed! The campus is beautiful and modern. The University integrates very well with the City of Chattanooga. I believe that I getting a quality education that is adequately preparing me for the business field.

I think that this school was the best choice for me, there are plenty of clubs to join if you are an active person. I love how attentive the teachers are and they reply back to emails quickly. UTC also has many resources for students who may need extra help with their studies which is my favorite part about the school.

This college offers a wide range of resources for students. There are many opportunities for scholarships and employment. From what I see, teachers care about our success and ensure we grow as individuals. For those who want to achieve excellence in life, the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga is an ideal option. The financial aid the college offers makes this an affordable option for everyone. Lower costs do not sacrifice the quality of education.

Being a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been a very positive experience for me. I encourage any interested students to please come tour the school, our campus is beautiful and right near downtown Chattanooga, which, despite being urban, is only about a fifteen minute drive from the mountains. Also, if you are into academics, get in touch with the Honors College, there are great people there who are willing to offer scholarships for good academic performance.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself to apply for as many scholarships as possible, you're going to need the money. Then I would tell myself to avoid eating out more than once a week and to save as much money as possible. Then I would probably go on a bit of a rant towards my younger self, saying things like, "If you can rent a textbook instead of buying it, do it. Go greek, it's awesome. Don't let yourself procrastinate over school work. Study first, then party if you want to. Don't get those two mixed up. Use the library, it will help you more than you may think. Don't live too far away from campus, you're going to hate that drive everyday and sometimes twice a day. Don't let the gas gauge get anywhere near empty because it's really hard to find someone with a gas can two hours from home. Don't drink and drive, it never has and never will be worth it. Don't get embarrased over anything, just be yourself. And most importantly, have fun with everything you do because you only get to experience college once."
The best thing about UT Chattanooga is the smaller classroom sizes. It allows for the student to have more one on one time with their professor and they possibly get to learn in a way that they did while in high school. I also believe that the campus is especially great for first year students because its big, but not over whelming, so it’s a great transition for students to get use to if they’re coming from home.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Students who are looking for a huge university should not attend UTC because it is smaller than other schools and it seems to be that everyone knows everyone, while at a bigger school there would be more opportunities to meet more people.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Well the main thing I saw that I liked compared to every other school I applied for, was the fact that it was within walking distance of downtown. No other school I wanted to go to was in close proximity, and without my car this semester being closer to downtown made it easier for me to go off campus.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about the campus was the fact that I couldn't find any of my classes the first week I came to Chattanooga. The campus is huge, and I couldn't find my way around, I was late to almost every class. It was highly annoying and frustrating.
Anyone and everyone. This school has an incredible ammount of oppurtunities for anyone. UTC is very diverse. I've met kids from India, the ghetto, and suburbia. Its a great place and I would recomend it to everyone.
UTC is best known for the Business Program that is offers. Also, the school offers various departments, giving students many options to choose from if they attend school here. With so many various departments, this gives students the opportunity to pick a major and/or minor of so many different possibilities.
I enjoy this school. I enjoy its size, not to big and not to small. There always seems to be something to do in Chattanooga, even more than the more larger cities I have been in. A beautiful surrounding area, perfect for hiking and rowing. Unfortunately our athletics department leaves much room for improvement, I base this purely on the success of our athletic teams. However, I have been told from the "jocks" that the coaches and administration are very good at what they do. There is an organization for everyone here on campus, and some of the most exciting and controversial experiences I've had, i.e. seeing pictures of aborted babies placed strategically around the busiest pathway on campus as a pro life protest, take place between them. Overall, I would say my good experiences outweigh the bad. UTC places at about a seven on a one to ten scale. Now if we could just figure out a way to get better cafeteria food.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The sterotypes at UTC are fairly accurate. The greeks dress like sterotypical greeks. The jocks all wear school clothes and hangout together. The isn't that many stoners. It is mostly looked down upon here. There aren't really geeks here everyone respects people who do their work and they aren't picked on and called geeks.
Academics are wonderful at this school. In most of its majors the school has at least one big name professor employed. The professors are helpful and intelligible about there subjects. This goes for every class except general education classes, more specifically basic Chemistry. I absolutely hate the way the teachers teach this subject. That being said all around the school has impressed me with its effectiveness, especially being a state school. My major, biology, is represented well here. You can take any variety of classes from Geology to Mycology, all of which are taught by passionate professors that usually allow for individual study with them outside of class. The amount of studying also varies from class to class, which I assume is like most college campuses. With this in mind, if every state school had the academics UTC had they wouldn't receive such a bad rap.
