I honestly love Butler University. Even as a senior, I am still so happy to have gotten into this university, and I love it here. I have changed my major 3 times over the course of my time at Butler, and not once did I think to myself, "Maybe I should just transfer". The people, professors, and campus are all wonderful and create such a good, welcoming, and supportive community. Butler has provided me with opportunities that I wouldn't have had or that I would have struggled to receive elsewhere. I'm so thankful for my academic advisor and his involvement in helping me choose classes and supporting me as I work to graduate. I would say that sometimes the food isn't the best, but we have good options across campus. While I have never lived on campus, due to being an Indianapolis local, I find that on-campus housing is updated but upperclassman housing is inaccessible for individuals with physical disabilities and the parking situation for many students is confined to only the parking garage, or just at their upperclassman housing which is at least a 10-minute walk from main campus.

Just visited Butler and it's now top of the list. I've already applied. I'm in Chicago so I like the vibe in Indy but still have the option to drive home in 3 hr range. The campus was beautiful with some cool historical buildings. The tour was well executed. I'm particularly focused on business school and the combination of academic and experiential learning. They also have a great mentoring program. Dorms are the biggest I've visited with tall ceilings. Fun exploring Broad Ripple Village- great atmosphere. Classroom sizes are low, definitely a campus where you can get plugged in and I'm a sucker for Butler Blue IV...now that's a mascot.

Butler University is a very friendly well established university. There campus itself is beautiful and gives so many students a positive active environment for college. Butler gives students the ability to venture out and discover over 60 different majors for their dream career. One thing I also love about Butler is the diversity in the community and equal representation of all is a priority for staff and students making it a more friendly environment.

It’s a solid school. It does have a big basketball culture, and a lot of groups to fit in to, but it can be difficult to find a place when the groups and clubs are very active. It thins out those that are lost and confused and pushes them into u comfortable situations, which can be great or detrimental, depending on the person. Controversy can be handled poorly, but it is balanced with the individuality of ourselves if we let out our opinions.

Butler is an amazing school if you are looking to have connections with your professors. My classes here at Butler are actually smaller than they were at my high school! This also means that you should be prepared to make genuine connections with both students and faculty.

THIS SEEMS TO BE AN EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD UNIVERSITY. THE PROFESSORS ARE EASILY ACCESSIBLE (I EMAILED THEM LAST WEEK WITH SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT ACTUARIAL SCIENCE AND THEY SENT ME AN INFORMATION-PACKED REPLY WITHIN DAYS), ACADEMICS ENCOURAGES YOU TO GO BEYOND THE CLASSROOM, AND THE FACILITIES (ESPECIALLY THE BRAND-NEW BUSINESS BUILDING) ARE WELL-ADAPTED FOR THE MODERN WORKING WORLD. I AM DEFINITELY APPLYING.

As a fellow minority and person who cares about equality, do not come here if you’re a minority. The way they treat minorities is so terrible. I know there’s racism everywhere, but every single friend of color I had, transferred. Hispanic, black, Asian, even adopted Asians who didn’t even identify as minorities until they came here transferred. Do you know how damaging that is? Even professors of color left because of how some students and other faculty were treating them. I did everything people say to do, I gave this university time (2 years), did a ton of clubs (7), and even joined Greek life, but it’s still horrible. I have gathered and written down the racist experiences students have gone through (that’s 8 pages) and my friends and I were gonna discuss it with the president but we couldn’t get a meeting with him or the vp of student affairs for over a year, the faculty just doesn’t prioritize their students. The already prevalent racism on campus just got worse after the coronavirus, it’s sad. I never write reviews and I was debating whether or not to do it but thinking of high school seniors who don’t know yet and what I wish I had known, I want you to know how horrible the experience has been for my friends and I, and even some alum I’ve talked to. Imagine, every single poc you know, gone within 2 years, that’s saying something and should be enough to warn you about all the things I can’t say here.

As a student at Butler University, I think it is an amazing option for those of you interested in pursuing a graduate program or some sort of professional, business occupation. You never feel like "just another number" and it has the big campus energy with the small campus specialty.

I can't imagine myself anywhere else, there are so many benefits to pursuing an education at Butler University. It is the perfect middle ground school that is not too big and provides intimate relationships with students and professors, but also is not small enough that you know everyone. The conversations are always thought provoking and give you a better perspective of the world.

I love Butler and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. It appears to be working to better its campus; however, it needs to be more transparent with its students. We have little knowledge as to how the housing process is going to work for the upcoming year and many sophomore students ended up living in a freshman dorm because it was overflow, we were not told of that until the day of housing assignment. Butler is also always asking for money and fundraising but with the cost of attendance and the budgets of many programs they have a lot of money, leaving many students to wonder where it goes and why we have some buildings on campus that are barely standing. For many students, there is a debate if Butler University is really worth $60,000 a year. Though I love my school and have no intention of ever going anywhere else, I do not think it is. It is a small campus so you are not going to get what a large state campus has as far as shops, services, and accessibility but if a small campus is what you're looking for Butler should be a school you consider.

I enjoyed my time at Butler University, and at the time thought it was a great school. However, looking back, I realize it was a little insular. The campus is not very diverse and it is decidedly located in a residential part of Indianapolis, so incorporating yourself into the city is difficult. While the academics were great, professors were accessible, and there wasn't anything I felt missing at the time, I wish now that I had gone to a school that was more involved in politics and the community. I think we had a very conservative and white population that didn't challenge my world view as much as I would like these days.
Olivia
It’s a great school. As a hopeful dance major, I love the faculty and style of ballet they teach. It’s classical but very elegant and different to anything I’ve seen. Academic classes are in the morning and dance classes are in the afternoon so you don’t have to re warm up multiple times a day b

I love Butler. I am a current freshman, and I feel completely at home. The one thing that really drew me to this college was the atmosphere. The community here is incredible. We have a thing called "The Butler Way." It pretty much means that everyone here is absolutely willing to go out of their way to help others. Everyone is very friendly and caring, including the professors. I can tell that my instructors are one hundred percent dedicated to their teaching and helping us learn. I am confident that I can ask any of my professors to for assistance, and they would be more than happy to explain things to me. The courses themselves are interesting, engaging, and applicable. I feel that I am genuinely learning relevant information in each one of my classes, and I'm enjoying doing so. My one complaint about Butler would be the cost. It is a very expensive university, and I don't think they do enough in terms of need-based financial aid. However, it's a wonderful school, and I'm so glad that I decided to enroll.
Tatiana
Academically, Butler is a really good school. The class sizes are small, the professors always readily available and wanting to help. There are also so many programs available. However, outside of that, Butler is pretty heavy in Greek Life, the dorms are all new, minus Ross Hall, which was supposed to be torn down, but the school has gone into housing crisis mode and still needs it. We just got a new food provider so I'm not sure how food will be this year, but in years past, it's never been great. There's not really anything within walking distance from campus, either. There's a reason we call it the Butler Bubble.

I'm going to be heading off to Butler in the fall of 2019 and I'm really excited! Living so close to the campus, I've been surrounded by Butler students for pretty much my whole life. I had many teachers that were Butler students and all they did is rave about the school. In my junior year, I finally visited campus for the first time and fell in love. Everything from the students, faculty, academics and location is just perfect for me!
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Butler University is 72%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Look at what suits your needs best: consider social life, cost of attending for four years, range of majors offered, career placement services
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Butler University is a school dedicated to broadening a student's horizons by directing their focus in various areas that their major can be applied through art, literature, science, math, and history.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known more about the social environment of the school. Butler University as a whole has a very extroverted personality, and it is harder for those who are more introspective to find their niche. This can be a difficult adjustment and transition especially when it is so easy to sit back and watch all the socializing and not participate yourself.
My classmates are all over-achievers. They are all the type of people that don't give up and strive to do well in their major. Mostly they're all genuinely nice people that strive for the same type of education I am. A solid education from a private school that can give them one-on-one attention.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
What's unique about Butler is the stuent to faculty ratio, which is 12:1. This has always been a strength of Butler and has always helped me to excel in my classes. I can make relationships with the professors and they know me by name. Another unique characteristic is that it is a liberal arts school, meaning that I get a well-balanced education that will prepare me for the rest of my life.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about my school is the cost. Butler University offers one of the greatest educations but when you are majoring in education, the cost does not balance the major. What I mean is, I want to be the best teacher I can be when I get older but being a teacher won't pay for the expensive cost of Butler's education. Therefore I have to decide whether I want to be an amazing teacher or not be in so much debt when I get older. Why can't I do both?
What kind of person should not attend this school?
someone who wants to get lost in the back of a lecture hall. Small class sizes promote participation from ALL students and not doing your work does not fly.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The intimacy. It is a small school, with small classes and you really get to know everyone. It is near a big city but at the same time has a campus and is oriented aroudn the campus. It is an open and freindly enviorment. It is perfect.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Butler offers a variety of clubs, intramural sports, volunteer opportunities, and Greek life. Some of the most popular are Dawg Pound and BU Dance Marathon.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype of Butler students is stuck-up, rich, white students. Sometimes the stereotype is true. Butler lacks in diversity, but everyone is exceptionally friendly.
Class sizes are usually small so you get one-on-one time with professors. They come to know you by name and really care for you. Academics are challenging so a usual sight to see on campus is people out on the mall studying on a blanket or study groups in various rooms in some of the buildings.
It seems like everyone on campus is Greek since they help you get the most involved, but some people do choose to stay independent. Going Greek is a great way to meet a lot of new people and it's cheaper to live in the houses than in the dorms.
I found Butler pretty late in my college search. I was almost completely set on another school in Minnesota, but my family decided to visit Butler anyway. The minute I walked on campus I had an overwhelming feeling. I just thought "wow this is what I imagined college would be like." It sounds cheesy, but tons of students will say that same thing. When I did more research, I saw what a good academic, social and athletic reputation Butler had. So I took a leap of faith, I applied and I accepted. Since that moment, I have never regretted my decision to go to Butler. It's truly my second home, and I love everything about it.
As most people know, our men's basketball team has made it to the National Championship two years in a row, so we're getting a lot of attention. A lot of people support the other sports as well, but as of now everyone makes it to the basketball games primarily.
