College of Charleston Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at College of Charleston accurate?

Jordan

For some students they are.

Shelby

For the most part, the good stereotypes are true. Alas with all most things, there is some truth to everything.

Lauren

There are a lot of preppy kids, many of whom are from the northern United States. However, you can certainly find a lot of kids who do not fit this exact description. There are some kids who are more free-spirited and others who are just your regular, bland college kids. Not all of the kids party; I know many people who don't do this at all, but who still seem to be happy and to have friends. I would not get scared away by the "party hard" stereotype of C of C. C of C is regarded as a decent school in terms of academics, and I have to go both ways on this one; a few classes are difficult, a few are super-easy and there are definitely many in between. You can push yourself if you want to, but you can slack off too if that's your style.

Alex

I mean if you want that to be how you live then you will no matter where you are

Kristen

There are many more girls than guys. CofC is a big party school...but not more than any other college. There is a lot of drug use among students. The STD rate is like any other college...just use protection. There is a large diversity of all types of people on campus (not just hippies).

Abby

No, while there are a few that uphold this stereotype, it does not represent even half of the school.

Megan

I think some of them are...but I'm not really sure about the party school stereotype. I think that the school is partially a party school.

Katie

some people are, but not everyone

Rachel

Students definitely take advantage of the beautiful weather and nightlife but there are definitely students who do remember that we are here for school. Those students may be a little harder to find but they do exist.

Carson

Charleston is a city that seems snobby just because we hold a high respect for the city. We are laid back because it is an easy-come easy-go type of world.
