I’m really excited to be heading to Colorado Mesa University (CMU) this fall to play football and pursue a degree in engineering. It’s been my dream to compete at the collegiate level, and CMU offers the perfect balance of athletics and academics for me. The football program has a great reputation for developing players, and I’m looking forward to joining a team where I can contribute and grow as an athlete. The coaching staff is dedicated to building strong, disciplined players, and I’m eager to be part of that culture.
Beyond football, CMU has a solid engineering program that caught my attention. The university offers smaller class sizes, which I think will provide me with more one-on-one attention from professors, something that’s really important in a challenging field like engineering. The campus has state-of-the-art labs and facilities, which will help me gain hands-on experience as I work toward my degree.
I also love the location of CMU. Grand Junction is an incredible place to live with access to outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and skiing, which is perfect for me when I need a break from school or practice. Overall, CMU gives me the opportunity to excel in both football and academics, and I’m excited to be part of a community that values both athletics and intellectual growth. I know the next few years will be challenging, but I’m ready to take on everything this school has to offer and make the most of my time there.

I love going to school at CMU. The campus is nice and accessible, I can get pretty much anywhere on campus within a 7-minute walk at the most. There's always events going on and there's hundreds of clubs for every interest. There's also nice things on campus like the different restaurants, the olympic gym, and even an arcade in the University Center. At first I felt out of place, but as soon as I started doing things on campus I actually met a lot of cool people and made a lot of friends (which is saying a lot because I'm a huge introvert.)

Great university! I have not been to another college, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am very happy with it here. There are plenty of different clubs and groups to connect with those who share similar interests. There are some really awesome professors here, and the faculty are always ready to help.

the school teaches you good things in life if you have a good teacher there are some that don't really care if you get it or not and just go ahead. while others don't even know how to help you. the few teachers that actually sit down with you to try to help you make it so much easier and they try to not over load you with the finals because they know you have other class finals that are hard.

This school, in my personal opinion, is not meant for those wanted "higher" education. The classes are very easy, which might be fine for some folks, but I do not think it is worth the money by any means. Many of the alumni I've spoke to either spent most of their time partying or ended up working locally, unfortunately still trying to pay off their student debts. Another, somewhat, irking fact about this school is that it is based on Christianity, which create friction among other religious students. This is not an inherently bad thing, but it feels almost suffocating if you do not practice under a Christian faith. Also, the school has very little diversity. That would be tolerable if the city itself was inclusive - but it is not. Political division, and overall segregation, is something everybody experiences and sadly has to live with; however, for this town, it seems almost fatal to have a different view point from your neighbors. It does not help that all of the campus, including the gyms and other buildings, are freely open to the entire city. If you are not from the city of Grand Junction, the low cost of this school (which in reality isn't exactly 'cheap') is not worth it.

I really love it and it gave me the opportunity to continue on my path to being what I wanted. It’s cheap and the class sizes are the best. Not to mention the teachers are very helpful, and your classmates are always down for a study session. I know I have made the right choice by picking mesa

My opinion of Colorado Mesa University would have to be that it's different than most colleges. It's not too diverse which isn't the best but you can always manage to find your group here and there. As far as academics go, most professors do respond back pretty fast if you do have questions and they do want you to succeed in their classes. The campus life is pretty calm no one is ever being crazy and causing drama.

Great university offers lots of opportunities and is a great place to live, and study at. Has lots of involvement, can join clubs, sports, study groups, meet people everywhere. Hosts lots of on campus activities to get the students involved and stay on grounds.

I think Colorado Mesa University is a good school that is affordable and has a little bit of everything for everyone while maintaining a good community. They keep small class sizes to make it more personalized and with the pandemic they are finding ways to continue education while keeping everyone safe and working with their needs.

I really love how they are student based. They really care about the students and really want them to succeed. They want the safety of their students especially during this pandemic. I love this school and so glad that I am apart of it. I would recommend this school to anyone. And also the teachers are wonderful so far I really enjoy class because of them.

CMU is an amazing and magical place. So many opportunities and adventures await you freshman year. I am so excited to go and get involved, meet new people, and go to sports games! I have gone to a couple volleyball camps at CMU and I do not regret a single minute of any of them. It was interactive and fun, and the facilities were top of the line.

overall the school is great and has amazing class sizes. I have the ability to connect with all my professors and for them to remember me. Though smaller than traditional universities, this school is a safe place and not overwhelming when it comes to searching for classes.

I love this school! Great people and amazing teachers who help you both inside and out of the classroom. There is always activities going on and are easily found whether it is a sporting event, musical or play, or an outside adventure such as hikes, camping, or rafting. I love every piece of this school and do not regret going here.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Choosing a college is important, but it is far more important to choose the correct teachers at a college. If the only class that you are able to get a seat in has an undesirable teacher, then it is better to hold off on the class. Always, always ask around and look up a teacher's statistics online.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I don't like that we have to take unnecessary classes. For example, I am an athletic training major, but I have to take a fine arts class. I don't really understand the point in taking so many general education classes.
The best thing about my school would have to be it's size. Although it is a rather small school it still has excellent teachers and programs. With the small town feeling it makes it feel more comfortable and not to mention you get a better learning experience with smaller classes.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
It would have saved me alot of stress and worry if I had only known how relaxed and open-minded the students and faculty were at this school. However, that is also an exciting part about going somewhere different and new. There is really nothing bad that caught me off guard but only unexpected things and events which turned out to be good surprises!
Mesa State is best known for Curtis Martin, played for the San Diego Chargers 1987 to mid 1990's, he once went to school at Mesa State and played as a wide reciver.

Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University) offers a complete college experience with a smaller, more intimate campus. The campus is small, but there are as many opportunities as a large university.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
If someone does not like the great outdoors, or smaller campus, and smaller classes, this is not the school for them. Mesa is not in a large or well known athletic conference, so there is not the ability to have national championship type team.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I cannot speak for the main campus of CMU, but at the culinary school it doesn't appear to be a whole lot of outside activities or groups. When the culinary school is involved with or invited to take part in a charity event or festival, students are usually quite eager to take part in those opportunities.
I love attending the CMU/WCCC culinary school! After an unfortunate divorce, I am starting my life over. I am proud to be a culinary student and looking forward to carrying on important, but often overlooked culinary traditions. The school offers a great teacher to student ratio and like all endeavors, it has it's negatives, one being that Grand Junction is a small city and does not yet garner the attention that some of the larger, older school communities might.
