I hate how much I love this school. I am heartbroken that it is closing after this semester. I have given 3 years of my life to this college and my professors are some of my favorite people. I would willingly transfer to any school that they end up at.

This school is amazing. It is a very community-based campus. The class sizes are incredible since there are only between 15-35 students per class. All the professors are there to help you succeed and only want the best for you. All of the teams on campus are amazing, whether it be Housing, Advising, or anything else on campus there are there for you. It is a very science-based school and I am very happy that I chose to go to school here. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.

As an online graduate student with a full time position as a Kindergarten teacher in Vancouver, WA, I have found the classes at Concordia to be extremely convenient and the professors are always available via email with any questions or concerns I might have.
Loving it so far!

Concordia can be a great school if that’s what you choose to make of it. The staff and counselors are always readily available. There are a ton of student activities that you can attend with friends! The Education program is new, but it is probably going to be one of the best in the US. The staff in the education program truly care about your success.

THis has been a great experience so far.

It's a great, tight-knit, community. The RA's are not all perfect, they're human. The professors work with you as much as the advisors. The campus is small which makes it really easy to navigate. Security is great for on-campus housing, we use key cards to get into all of the buildings for the school. We also have an on campus pantry for students who need a little support.

Concordia has been very great, and has given me a great opportunity to learn. I'm a doctorate student, and have been supported since day one. It is a school that impresses me on every level, and continue to thrive in their rigorous courses.

It feels a little like high school. As soon as you walk into the dining hall, you instantly see the cliques. It is hard for commuter students to connect to others because the majority of the study body lives on campus. The professors are very friendly and always available to help.
Casandra - 01/14/2019
My overall opinion of Concordia University - Portland is that all in all, this school and it's staff deeply care about your success at their school. They do not treat you as a burden or as an annoyance; they truly will utilize whatever resources are available to make you feel more secure in your educational career.

Professors have been very knowledgeable and available to students. The classroom sizes are small and conducive to a positive and fruitful learning environment. School enrollment officers are supportive and resourceful. Each department that I have communicated with are great about meeting my needs as a student.

Concordia is a great school. The teachers, counselors and advisors are always there to help students in any way they need. The campus is great and very nice. They have great programs and make everything easy for the students. I would recommend this school to anyone looking for a greta nursing or sports science program.

Concordia University is a very small private school. A great thing about it is the smaller class sizes so you can get more individual time with our teachers and they can get to know you on a more personal level. Smaller classes are also helpful when getting to know the other students.
Wanita - 04/14/2018
It is a good school and provides a good spiritual foundation as well as academic success. The professors are available whether a student takes online courses or is attending classes physically. Students are encouraged to be aware of how to help others who are close to them or are part of a general population.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would stress starting college passionate for your degree and being prepared to give as much dedication as possible. I had too many distractions during my first couple years in college. I volunteered a lot, worked, lived at home with family, and a couple years later was engaged and planned a wedding within a 10 month span, which took an excess amount of time from my studies. I would also tell myself to quit procrastinating and get steady in that. I would strongly encourage myself to maintain a strong connection to my support systems; christianity (God), family, church and a few close friends. Also, to continue volunteering at church but not too many hours a week so you don't get burned out and want to just quit everything on you plate. Another bit of advice would be to not expect perfection from yourself for all facets of life and not doubt what feels right inside, but press on with the passion for the goodwill in your heart.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
It's a really small campus, and not many people have heard of it. So it gets old having to explain about it sometimes. But we are growing so that's a good thing.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
A student that is looking for a big setting should not attend this school because this school features small class sizes and an enrollment of less than two thousand. A student that is hoping to simply slide through the cracks should not attend this school because professors and academic advisors establish relationships with each of their students. A student that desires to only succeed academically should not enroll here because service learning is placed on a high pedestal. Hundreds of service hours are required for graduation. Overall a student desiring a typical college experience should not attend this school.
It is a very small school that has a very good reputation. It is part of a chain of Lutheran schools, ours being the most liberal of them all. There is a huge emphasis put on academics and we have some world renowned proffessors and researchers teaching full time on our campus.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
The most unique thing about my school is that it offers an incredible oppurtunity to be apart of the nursing program as a freshman. As long as the student maintains a 3.25 GPA and obtains their CNA license, they do not have to apply to the nursing program their junior year, they're automatically in the program. This is a huge deal because of how competitive nursing programs are. It is also a very motivating component to keep your grades up and maintain in the nursing program from the very beginning.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
Mostly about the community in the school. Community is an emphasised part of our school, and the staff and faculty really encourage us to become a part of the school community. There are staff and faculty that live on campus, and many faculty live very near campus and encourage students to visit them at their homes.
I consider the small size of my school to be the best quality. It gives the opportunity to form more relationships, as well as get to know your teachers better. There are also so many resources for help!
