It is treated like a high school; not many people put in effort, and the environment still feels like a high school with the carefree attitude. Along with this some students often do drugs leaving the smell inside building letting you see and smell it in all the lobbies.

I feel as though it is a good school. I do feel as though the professors could appear to be more caring. It can get kind of hard sometimes. Overall though the school is good. You are sure to learn if you go to class and you do the assignments that are provided to you.

Good school. Has a nice suburban area around it. Everyone is involved in the school. Professors are nice people who care about there students. School offers a verity of scholarships that are super easy to receive. I recommend attending this school if you’re looking for somewhere that has nice weather and amazing people

My favorite part of Georgia Southwestern is the amount of campus involvement and social interaction. There is something for everyone at GSW, such as sports, Greek life, student government, and plenty of clubs to join. I also truly enjoy the campus size. It is just perfect so you can see someone you know every day, but also get to meet someone new at campus events. Go Canes!

GSW is a great school, with an amazing atmosphere. Their nursing school is number one in the state and number four in the country. It is genuinely a great place to be. You are not just a number at the school teachers and staff know you by name. I am glad I chose to go to this school.

I think that it is a very good school that made me feel very welcome right when I got onto campus. At the end of my 4 years there, it just kept growing and growing and I cannot wait to watch it continue to grow to be the best little school. Most people, including myself, doubted it at first but it was the best place for me to be. I would not trade my four years for anything. Many opportunities to be involved on campus and your professors truly care about your success, you can't find that just anywhere.

I’d recommend to those who don’t mind not having anything to do on the weekends. There’s not a mall/movie theatre in town. It’s best to stay on campus for the weekends because many people go home and the campus is quiet enough to study and catch up on sleep.

Great people, great programs and opportunities.

Georgia Southwestern State University is located in a small town called Americus, Ga. The university isn't as big as UGA or Savannah state, but it's a really good university with a lot of majors that people are/could be interested in. The best thing about this university is that we basically know everybody who goes here, and we for sure know all the professors here. The professors are so willing to work with their students outside of class, and that's just a huge thing to me. At a big college, students might not get as much help with their professors as their classes could be really huge, but down here the class size are perfect, and we get the help we need to succeed.

GSW offers a small family-oriented environment. I love the way the Coaches, the players, interns, and the faculty members are so hands-on with our questions and lets us know about the various services that are available. During my visit, both my parents and I felt welcome, safe, and a sense of relief with the upkeep of the campus, on-point security, little petty incidents, everyone knows each other, and they allow fights, but discussions to resolve conflicts (I love that). But most of all, I love the entire learning environment in which classes are relatively small, allowing you to have more in-class conversation with instructors and peers; and study hall is a requirement, and computer labs or just computers are available throughout the campus, including in the dorms. Nice!

It is amazing I am so glad I choose this to be my home.

Amazing. The school is really nice! A good choice and the academics are reall nice. Did not meet any professors due to me touring in the summer. The school is two hours and thirty minutes away from my home so it is really closer than expected. I love it!

In my own words, I believe that Georgia Southwesten State University is one of the best, most affordable schools in the state of Georgia. Not only does it have one of the best Nursing programs abroad, but it is also the safest campus state wide. I highly recommend GSW for all upcoming college freshmen.

This school is great for people who enjoy a small town, close community. There is not a lot of things to do. You have get creative to make things fun. The class sizes are great. Not too intimidating. I enjoy that there isn't too much going on. That way I can get to all of the activities that are happening. I give this school a 3/5.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back in time to when I was a high school senior, I would tell myself to start learning good study habits. College is nothing like high school. In high school there was no need to study because the teachers went over exactly what was need for the tests, but in college they require you to do must of your learning in your own time. Therefore if I could go back in time I would tell myself to be prepared for this challenge. That would lead me to being able to study more efficently and know how to do my assignment well before they are due. I believe that me going back in time would change my whole freshman experience completely, and I would be thankful for that.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Georgia Southwestern State University is a highly, well developed university that not only focuses on academics, but also on both individuality and teamwork improvement which I think serves as an immense building block for future success!
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about my school is all of the hidden expences. I am an art major, and I understand that it can take alot of supplies, but I had absolutely no idea as to what my professors wanted me to buy. As another set back, the university has been sending me suprise letters that state that I owe them $900 for adding on two more classes when I have been told that i would not have been charged if I took more hours. There are just way to many suprises where as money is concerned.
We've just started our classes so I dont really know them well, but I would say that they are prepared or getting prepared and ready to start working. I don't mean to say that everyone is the same because everyone is different, but the majority seem prepared to make the best of class.
The best thing about Georgia Southwestern State University would have to be the friendly and nice atmosphere that you get adjusted to. A diverse campus is a better campus to understand, learn, and become adapt to life from different perspectives. Here at Georgia Southwestern, students not only get a chance to grow physically, mentally, and socially, but they get a chance to become someone who will be remembered for their good deeds.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
If you love the big city life I would advise that you do not attend. If you are looking for large classes. If you are not open minded about going to a small school in a rural area.
There is a large diversity in the students attending GSW. There are many foreign students that bring insight to the rest of the world. Acceptance is commonplace.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
There is a large shortage of technological improvements that hinder the students' ability to effectively learn . Compared to the number of students that attend Georgia Southwestern, the number of available computers and printers is lacking. Even if one had his or her own computer to use, wireless internet is scarce. A student must either live in the dorms or go to the campus coffee shop. It is impossible to do research in the classroom due to this lack of internet service.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
95% of students attending Georgia Southwestern State University receive some sort of financial aid.
47% were awarded federal grants.57%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
