What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
As a high school senior, I was suffering with depression, which was undiagnosed. I missed 72 days of school that year, regrettably. I look back at that time now and only wish I could have had someone who noticed to pull me from those shadows.
If I could go back, I would knock tentatively on the bedroom door belonging to my younger self. Upen crossing that threshold of time, three years ago, I would look myself in my eyes and tell myself that I would come to regret missing school, and regret not getting help and talking to a counselor about the bleak feelings which I experienced daily. I would hug myself and kiss my own forehead and tell myself that one day, I would feel better. One day, I would have the control I so desperately felt was lost, and for good. I would tell myself not to miss another day fo class, and to pay attention, for goodness sake!
I know I would have listened. If there only was a guiding voice for me, I would not have wasted these last few years.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about my school is the campus bookstore. They have almost everything you would need for school but the prices are so much higher than anywhere else. Many of us have no choice but to buy our books there with our book vouchers because we cannot afford to pay for them out of pocket at a store that is more reasonably priced.

What's unique about your campus?
I think that the best thing about my school is that the teachers are ussually always avialable to give a student extra attention and help. They all are all albe to be contacted via e-mail and they all have set office hours so that a student can come in and meet with the teacher. They are all also willing to make an appointment with a student to help them with their work. I use this a lot when a struggle in a class and my teachers make me feel welcome.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known that some classes will be easy, and some will be hard. In high school, good grades usually fell into my lap (until my senior year when my depression overcame me). I was the type of student who could do my high school homework while in class, yet still pay attention to my teachers at the same time. In college, I was startled when I realized I would have to learn to study. I learned to make time after school and work for homework.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I absolutely love my school, but obviously it is not perfect. My major is nursing, so I am stressed out with my work load. On top of that, the nursing advisors are very unorganized. This is frustrating because I love being organized and knowing what is going to come next. I asked an advisor why they were so stressed out once and she replied, "The nursing program has been changed from a two year to a four year program". That change occured four years ago, so the advisors should be on top of things. I love everything else at Miami.
