I was a returning student when I started at Mt Hood. The staff at the registrar helped me with my financial aid and the professors are easy to contact. The campus is also very beautiful with a nature walk area in the back. The extra plus is that parking is free!

MHCC is in a safe area with plenty of walking paths to keep students connected to nature between classes. The library area is vast, with plenty of spaces to study. The cafeteria is okay, but there are restaurants and fast-food places nearby that provide other options if the on-campus food isn't satisfactory. There isn't any provided on-site housing but there are multiple apartment complexes surrounding the college. There is a wide variety of courses available to take across multiple disciplines, with wonderful teachers that are passionate about their work and want students to succeed. Additionally, within the library are student tutors that work to help other students succeed in challenging subjects.

I think it’s great and I have had some really amazing teachers form here in the past couple of years and everyone’s been amazing. I was really nervous when I first started because the campus was so big, but I really like the set up. I also love the library it’s big and spacious and has a lot of different rooms and spaces to study and the black rock is an added bonus.

Mt. Hood Community College is a good community college, I recommend MHCC to others who have not decided on their future career goals. In general, going to MHCC or any community college is a great way to save money for general studies then transferring to a university to earn a bachelors. I will say that MHCC has the best TRIO-student support services that I am also a part of. I also take online classes and they are quite easy and I definitely prefer online then going to class, because of the flexibility. Some advisors are not the best and I recommend TRIO 100% if a student is planning on pursuing a bachelors degree. I also recommend going to student orientations or scheduling a one on one tour with a tour guide on the MHCC website. Asking questions is essential because their portal system can be very confusing and even signing up for classes can be tricky at first. On a final note, parking in the morning after 8:00 am is a hassle, and I highly recommend getting to school a bit early for morning/afternoon classes or park by the back of the school near the headstart/school buses. Also, cars do get stolen quite frequently near the J parking lot, because it is near the sidewalk with outside traffic.

The culture at MHCC is great! The programs range from Business all the way to Wilderness Leadership. There are all kinds of students that are taking different majors and advisers that are willing to talk to you about it. Going to class at MHCC every day seems as if we were at a university.

Mt. Hood has a very welcoming community. There are professors here to not only do their job, but are willing help a student find his or her classroom. Mt. Hood also has a grateful avid room in which you can different forms of tutors. From writing to math, They are willing to help! Sports facilities and facilities in general are great for a community college. With Basketball and weight room open from 12-1 open to the community. It helps as it gives students opportunities to experience stuff they don't at a university. Other classes we offer are GED which is a high school diploma, but with not as much schooling, and is easier to get. The student union here is a great place to get homework and other things done while not in class, great place other than the library. In case it gets full.

It is a school that doesn't have a lot of culture. It feels like a school that is a stepping stone or an entry-level school that will lead you onto something bigger. People go to this school to start out their college path and because of that, a lot of people don't know about the process so I feel like they could do a better job communicating with the students.

I think it is a wonderful college to be. They have wonderful places to go for help to finding your right career path if you are having trouble. They have a ton of classes to take to second languages classes to auto shop classes. They are across from a movie theater and a few minutes away from a outdoor mall. They are public transit goes right by the college.

Mt. Hood Community College is different from your average community college. The setting is unique, since the campus is surrounded by a lush forested area, where people can enjoy nature and take outdoor classes. Oregon’s famous Mt. Hood can be seen on a clear day, from all different angles, whether you are relaxing outside on the bright red picnic tables or doing your homework in the Student Union. MHCC provides many fun areas for nature lovers, such as an outdoor bonfire that, with faculty permission, students can use and a state-of-the-art planetarium for lovers of the cosmos.
The college layout is open, as classrooms are generally not enclosed by buildings, and can be accessed with no difficulty. This promotes a calming and effective learning environment. Professor’s are easily accessible with their offices being sectioned by department, making them easy to find. Of course, it is expected that you abide by office hours, to make sure that your instructors are not distracted from grading or their other work.
Academically, Mt. Hood offers a range of different programs, all the way from Cosmetology to Digital Media to Nursing! As a community college, you can really feel that MHCC caters to the demands of the public and is trying to help everyone achieve their goals.
From my perspective, Mt. Hood really provides a stable environment to learn and gives you a great education for a lower cost. I highly recommend Mt. Hood CC to anyone in the Portland or Gresham areas!

They know how to keep the students involved and every class I’ve been in everyone there is there to learn and they’re engaged in the class. I’ve met some down to earth people too, my first term a women of twin babies is taking classes trying to make a better future for her kids and I thought that was amazing. This term a guy that did drug for years decided to quite and finish school, he got his GED and he’s working on his associates. This school is full of people that have unique stories and this college is putting all those stories into one. If you get someone like that in your class try and learn from them, ask them politely why they’re there and how they got there. Learn and hopefully you won’t make the same mistakes that they did.

After being here for one year, I have found that I really appreciate the small class sizes. It feels more one on one with the professors and keeps everyone closer together. Overall I think this is a great place to start our getting your transfer or associates. There are so many great programs this college has to offer. We have a great mechanical and technical 2 year degree that throws you right into the work force. Overall a great school to attend.

I really enjoy attending Mt. Hood Community College. The professors are amazing individuals, they are very concerned about their students and care about how they are doing in class and outside of class. There are a handful of teachers that are not the best but most professors are very compassionate. The facility feels very safe, it is older but is kept in good condition. I would like to mention that one thing that Mt. Hood Community College excels at, is providing free resources for students such as scholarship workshops.

Mt hood is decent for the price. Some departments are lacking (the math department for example is hard to find a good professor for, with decent hours). The library is nice for studying but a little on the small side. Bathrooms are a hit or miss, and don't even get me started on the parking situation. However, Mt Hood Community College is about what I expected it to be. It is very diverse, but is somewhat affordable, and now even has my favorite coffee place on campus!
Kristina - 10/21/2017
Overall, Mt Hood Community College is a great place for anyone trying to get back into school or go in early. It's a great stepping stone for high schools wanting to do dual credit and generally a fun place to be. Classes are fun and teachers are kind and often accommodate student needs. Deserves a good 3.5 stars.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Mt Hood Community College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I were still in high school, I would have tried much harder in my general studies because they are all required as you decide a career. I would also try more things and engage myself in more activities to see what I like most and what is it that Im good at so that way, I would'nt have to wonder what I want to do with my life because I believe high school is a great place for that.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I would have given myself the opprotunity to go to college sooner, so I'd be finished sooner. I'm 28 now, single and with no kids, I should have done this years ago. The weeks are flying by, and I in no time I'll be done. I wish I would have known how fast I could make my dreams come true.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I tell my friends that I'm very happy to go back to college after a long break. I'm very excited about the class I am taking that will help me find out what my skills are and what I would be good at. I always lov to learn new things and I think school/college is a perfect place to start to learn new skills.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Its cheaper and closer to my home. plus it has so many night classes for full-time working students. and also offers online courses which are very helpfull.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I think the worst thing about my school is that they allow the older people to bring backpacks on wheels. That is a joke. I really can't find anything wrong with my school since they have banned smoking.
I think Mt. Hood Community College is best known for earlier years when the Mt. Hood Festival of Jazz was held there. But currently I think it's regarded as a competing college campus in diversity and boasts programs that you can find no where else on the west coast, like it's Funeral Services Program. Named for the beautiful volcano in it's background, and just minutes away from the Columbia River Gorge, this school couldn't be in a more ideal location.
I actually like the school. Like most school there are some teachers that are liked more than others, but more often than not most teachers seem to care about the students.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
A person who is not interested in improving themselves. Mt. Hood offers many opportunitys for low income students and those who didn't do so well in high school to catch back up with their education. The schools adminstration has been warm to Students for Environmental Justice's activism and welcomes the push to improve the community.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
73% of students attending Mt Hood Community College receive some sort of financial aid.
51% were awarded federal grants.28%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
