Describe the students at North Carolina State University at Raleigh.

Maria

NC State's campus is full of diversity and one think NC State prides itself in having. I think it makes it interesting going to class and meeting lots of people from all different backgrounds.

I would have to say that there is one common stereotype for our school and that is that we the student body population is made up of southerners and rednecks. I believe this stereotype comes from the fact that we are located in the south and our school is known for our Agriculture Institute, which attracts a large population of students with agricultural interests. It just so happens that a lot of the students interested in the agricultural assets of the University are interested in farming, animals, and have come from a background or family that shares these interests. I guess the southern accents of the North Carolinians contributes to this stereotype as well. I do not believe this stereotype is accurate. I would not say our school necessarily has a "stereotype" because we have such a diverse student population. The whole student body cannot fit into one specific stereotype.

I would describe the student population of NCSU to be a true melting pot. Diversity at our school extends beyond appearances and lifestyles because there is such a mixture of ideals, beliefs, and practices amongst all of the students. To be honest, with such a variety of students, sometimes tensions can arise; however, I have personally always felt safe on my campus and I know that my administration has a no-nonsense approach to all forms of discrimination. In actuality, I appreciate the blend of students here at NC State because it provides another area of growth as students are taught how to be more culturally competent and ready for an always growing world.

I find that everywhere I go on campus, I always meet someone that is very nice. We have a very diverse campus and pretty much everyone one campus is open to new people. We do not discriminate against any specific race, if anything, we love all types of people.

Christina

There are organizations and things for every type of person on this campus! It is hard to say that a certain type of student would feel out of place because there are so many ways to become involved! The attire of the student varies depending on his or her own personal style. All different types of students interact in either classes or in organizations. Even though there are many in-state students here, there is also a great mix of out-of-state individuals along with people from all different economic and racial backgrounds. When looking at four tables in the dining hall, all I see are groups of friends talking and having a good time. There are students from different political opinions, and Student Government is a great thing to get involved with if a student is really interested in politics. I would say most students talk more about what career path or job they would like to have in the future instead of just how much they'll earn some day.

At State, no other word describes the student population than diverse, in every single way. While it is a predominately white institution, that doesn't mean that white people are the only ones around.

Sharon

Like I said earlier, the student body at state is very diverse. There are people from so many different backgrounds and so many different personalities that you never know who you'll find. NC State as a whole is very focused on diversity and supports a campus community that is open to every student; because of this many different religious, political, social opinions, etc. are expressed comfortably and this expression is actually encouraged.

At North Carolina State University, I have gotten to experience true diversity for the first time. There are students from all around the country as well as students from other countries. I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of students stemming from different backgrounds and cultures, who educated me about their lifestyle. On my first day on campus, I met students from North Carolina as well as from the Netherlands. This showed me how diverse this campus was and I was in love with NCSU again! All the students here do share one thing in common though, which is being apart of the Wolfpack!

Jimmy

At North Carolina State University, I think by now I have met people from every single State, and probably 2/3 of the world's countries. I have met from the confused study abroad student from Austria looking for the right bus, to the kid from the Carolina Mountains in my math class, to the Argentinian I played against in a soccer scrimmage. Being part of the Wolfpack makes it easy to meet so many new and interesting people, If you want a taste of the rich diversity, visit the student library, particularly the commons area and be ready to practice ANY foreign language you may know, because you are very likely to find somebody who does speak that language. However, nothing unites people from different races, religions, gender, financial backgrounds, nationalities, ethnicity, orientations than the winning touchdown against our historic rival, all under the chant of 'Go Wolfpack!'

The students on this campus are so diverse that it is hard to have a set description for them. On any given day you can spot out someone new and different from the day before. Since the university is so big it allows for students of all types of backgrounds and interact with each other. No friendship is a surprise to me on this campus, because the university sets such a warm and welcoming atmosphere that anyone can be friends. I really don't think that anyone could feel out of place on this campus, especially since there is an organization for everybody here. Although, there will be differences between students, their pride for NC State and determination to succeed helps to bring everyone together.
