Rutgers Newark is a great school for people who don't like big campus. There are always school events happening everyday and its a great way to meet new people. Rutgers is very diverse and welcoming. Yes, Rutgers Newark is located in a semi dangerous place but when you go there it doesn't feel like it. You also have NJIT right next door so its like going to two schools for the price of one.

I am fascinated with the Rutgers community. I adore the classes and the many opportunities that are given in order to strive. Can't forget the people too. I can never get enough of Rutgers University. I know that being a member of this community will help shape me into a better version of myself, and will grant me opportunities to achieve my goals in education and in life.

I think it is a great school. It is diverse and you get to meet new people every day. People are welcoming and learning is fun with the right professors. On-campus housing is fun and a great experience if given the chance definitely take it. The activities hosted by the school are always fun and interactive. Students seem to always be engaged in and out of classrooms with the school community.

My opinion is that Rutgers will provide me with many opportunities to work in many Hospitals in New Jersey. The price is affordable and the education is great. It is close and convenient to my home.

I do not like Rutgers University-Newark one bit. I am currently a sophomore, and am applying to transfer in order to get out of here as soon as possible. the campus is awful, from the location in Newark to the dingy, filthy looking buildings, the Newark campus screams the word "ghetto." Furthermore, athletics are not highly emphasized, seeing as it is a Division III school. During my past 2 years here, I have also found that the lethargy of the students is matched by none other than the teachers, and nobody seems to be too happy to be here. Perhaps this is a good choice as a safety school for some, but I would never recommend it as a top choice; this school is below par and I would advise you to perhaps try out the much more highly acclaimed New Brunswick campus. Lastly, this school has been a tremendous burden on my family financially as well. We've had to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket due to high tuition costs along with a financial aid office filled with employees that seem like they hate their jobs. Overall, the energy at this school was awful, and I cannot wait to get out of here.

I have lived on-campus at Rutgers University-Newark for a couple of months but it has quickly become like home. Because this is one of the most diverse campuses in the state, I have no trouble fitting in. Being a minority woman I had always struggled with fitting in especially in places like college. There are so many people that come from everywhere and you start to wonder if you are the odd one out. Being at Rutgers, there is no place that makes me uncomfortable I could walk around on campus without worrying that I look like a fool. I already come from an urban area and I was very hesitant that I would feel comfortable in a new setting, however, this is the perfect place to be. Even the professors make me very comfortable. There is something about being in Newark which sets the tone for the campus. They are not afraid to show their minority pride. The school has many clubs and opportunities for students to get involved. I myself personally have got involved with the on-campus pantry which helps students to get groceries for free. This campus is all for inclusion and it is nothing but love and support all around. I don't think I could even comfortably visit another campus because of the fact that Rutgers Newark has everything. I also think even after my Bachelor's degree, I would want to get my Master's degree from Newark as well which is what I plan to do.

Rutgers University-Newark is located in the downtown area of Newark, New Jersey, near Pennslyvania Station. Overall the downtown area is a great place to be, but there tends to be a lot of traffic during certain times of the day. Off-campus there are things such as the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Branch Brook Park's skating rink. In Newark, there isn't much to do, so you will usually hear about students going to New York. On-campus there are always events going on. A good tip would be to follow the program board's Instagram account to keep up with the events. Students are very active in the community and are always open to making new friends. If you are not staying in dorms, you must put yourself out there because nine times out of ten, everyone will know each other either from dorms, organizations on campus, or previous schools. The professors are always willing to help you as long as you do your part in the process. If you need help, the tutoring center and writing center is almost always open.

Rutgers University-Newark is often looked down on because it is in an urban city. I am now a junior and can confidently say I appreciate the school. I have never exerpienced school pride, but when people ask about college I can answer enthusiastically. I am comfortable and see major growth in myself pshycially, spiritually, and socially. And throughout this painful journey, I have always had someone to confide in. I would recommend any college seeker to seriously consider Rutgers-Newark.

Rutgers University provides many services that make it easy to navigate the campus, enjoy recreational activities, and help the students whenever there is an issue. They give us credit for food, and for books. The atmosphere at Rutgers is comfortable and enjoyable.

So far, I believe that Rutgers University-Newark is a great school. Although we are not perfect, no other school is either. I am only a second year student but the things I have seen here are great. The professors are wonderful and helpful and there are so many lovely staff members. This place is a diverse, fun, and loving place where everyone is welcome. Every office comes with educated and helpful staff members who want nothing but to see you succeed. Rutgers Newark is a home for those who don't feel like they have one.

Rutgers University- Newark is an amazing university with amazing, well-educated professors, very friendly, outgoing students and has a wide variety of opportunities to help pursue your dreams! Staff, dean and professors are always concerned for their students, wanting to see them succeed. That's what I truly love about this university.

My over all opinion of my school is that that it’s welcoming and challenging. Professor, coaches and other employees always push you and encourage you to go hard and strive for the best because there are people who don’t have the opportunity to be in school like how we are. The financial aid office isn’t helpful at all, I tried many times to get some sort of grant to help pay for my tuition and I didn’t receive anything. But other than that the school is great, athletic are good (I take part in them) and academics are well.
kevin
Great school, happy I have chosen it, because quiet frankly I don’t know what would’ve been a better school for me! In addition, there programs and curriculums are very well rounded, and even though the newark campus is smaller than the new brunswick i feel more comfortable at the newark and I feel closer with the community

I feel as if this school is good academically and offers great opportunities due to its environment. Since it is very close to the city it allows you many opportunities to find a job and for internship. But also it has its cons. The campus life is not the best because it does not offer the convince that New Brunswick offers but that it makes up in opportunities.
Brianna
People are kind and show appreciation for the things they have. Students at different levels of their education really come together to help each other. Class sizes are not too large but some classes like Psychology are very full while other major classes are smaller ratios
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Rutgers University-Newark is 65%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Please chose a major that you can easily utilize in the workforce-teacher,nurse, engineer. Please have fun but look long term ttowards the future. College lasts four years but the decisions you make have lifelong affects.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Rutgers Newark has been called the most diverse campus for the last thirteen years, so I think someone who is not open to differences among students should not attend this school. The university has a lot to offer in many different fields, but if your not willing to take your initiative to take advantage of them you might want to attend a smaller more focussed school.
Rutgers-Newark is best known for the campus diversity. About three in every four people here come from a different ethnical background. Meeting people from different backgrounds has given me an edge because I feel I have received insight that I would not have been able to gain elsewhere. My school produces students that are well-equipped for global competition due to the diversity of people and therefore diversity of thought that is found on campus.
A student that wants to meet new people of different backrounds. A student that prefers a smaller school over a larger one in respects to both student body size and campus size. A student that lives close to the school, because dorming here is too expensive. If they had the opportunity to dorm they should have went to Rutgers - New Brunswick. A student that likes nice teachers that actually want to help the students learn instead of the trickery that goes on in other schools. A student where everyone on campus is friendly and eager to help a fellow student.
I feel that my school is extremely diverse and it is a reflection of the United States today which is people from different countries all coming together.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about my campus is the lack of involvement in programs put on by student organizations due to the fact that so many students are commuters.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known we were going to do so much case studies and group projects. After all, that is what college is all about; however, due to the fact that I was attending a small community college with little group projects and no case study to do, I was under the impression that college can be a walk over until I came to Rutgers University. It is more challenging and I wish I had known that, because I could have been more prepared so I can meet all my expectations with ease.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Many students are either part time or full time while working jobs, and these students are not always fully prepared for class, making class move slowly.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
Well this is a little bit difficult to say... I think the biggest one is that we are not smart. Yes, we are not main campus Rutgers, but not everyone WANTS to go to main campus. Me, for one, got accepted to main campus, but did not want to go there. Rutgers Newark has a world full of resources for Criminal Justice than New Brunswick does, and I didn't want to see a million people that went to my high school, just about every day in college. There are a lot of smart people on campus, so no, the stereotype is not true that people on Newark campus are not as intelligent.
Where is the best place to get work done on campus?
There are two libraries on campus. The best one to get work done is in the Law Library. Even though you are technically supposed to be a law student, just as long as you are not talking and are not obnoxious, no one will say anything to you. The Dana Library is also a pretty nice place to get work done. In the quiet room, there are nice comfortable chairs to sit in and there are even booth-like tables to spread your work out on. I've spent many hours in that library typing up last minute papers and studying for numerous exams!
I love my classes. My first two years I got most of my required gen-ed classes out of the way. My third year I took a lot of classes in my major, which was so much fun. I made friends since most of the people in my classes were in more than just one. The majority of the professors are super friendly and are willing to spend time with you if you need help. They have what are called office hours. During that time, you can drop by their office and they will spend time with you answering your questions. This is a nice time to get to know the professors since some of the classes are in lecture halls and there are a lot of students in them.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
There are several fraternities and sororities on campus that are pretty popular. I do not personally belong to any of them, but I always see fliers around campus or people wearing their Greek labeled sweatshirts. I do however, belong to quite a few honor societies. These honor societies are pretty active and stay involved. As for the dorm life, I am not really sure since I am a commuter. I heard that there are a lot of activities and such on campus for those who dorm, but I'm not sure.
Academics are pretty good at Rutgers Newark. If you want to learn, you will. Most professors are very friendly and easy to approach. Since I am, what most would consider, a nerd, I sit up front in most of my classes and participate a lot. This allows the teacher to have interactions with me and get to learn my name. If you are a student that is not very interactive with lectures, the teacher will most likely not know your name since most classes are a little on the large size. Even though classes are large, there are always opportunities to participate and be active in classroom discussions.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
80% of students attending Rutgers University-Newark receive some sort of financial aid.
53% were awarded federal grants.45%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
