The campus is truly wonderful. I am self-driven and can find all the resources I need to get things done. Mostly it’s been questions about financial aid and scholarships, so the offices are really helpful in guiding me through the process of understanding.

Overall, I think Salt Lake Community College is a great school to start your education. The classes are affordable and the class size is much smaller than other universities. The smaller class size allows for a more one-on-one experience and creates an environment that encourages learning. Most professors truly care about your success and help guide you to the correct path by giving you resources to help you succeed. This could be through student projects or simply giving you contacts outside of the school to prepare you for a career. The only issue I have with this school is that sometimes they change programs or policies and don't let the students know. So, often times students have to scramble to change majors or change plans based on the new changes.

It's a hit or miss with some of the teachers, some will go above and beyond for you while others are just in it for the money. There's fun activities held during the semesters to attend, but usually it's better to have another fellow friend who is attending the college too, to go with. Otherwise, it gets awkward. If you want to pursue further in your education, it is nice that tuition is cheaper here for your first two years before you go to a 4 year college for a bachelor's degree and up.

Elizabeth - 04/10/2024

I think this school serves it great purpose as an easily accessible and affordable secondary educational institution. They always have great food and extracurricular activities on campus. The small class sizes allow for better one-on-one time with teachers and a richer learning experience. The times and options are very flexible for full-time working students and those who needs a broader range of educational opportunities.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Going back to talk to myself as a high school senior would be a bittersweet chance for me. There's no guarantee that I would even listen to myself. How hard headed I must have been to know I wouldn't even listen to myself. I imagine the high school me would be laying on the bed, ear phones in my ears, volume turned up to the max, homework sitting by my side untouched, and my phone right in my hand texting away. I would walk in and tell my highschool self to go to school! I would ask myself the question that I ask myself this very day, Why don't you go to class? What's wrong with your classes? Senior year is the most important year in high school and I know you don't want to go believe me I can feel how you feel. Just go, it saves us so much trouble at the end of year. And maybe you will actually be able to enjoy your summer instead of doing make up packets. College is so much better than high school, trust me, we LOVE it. So please just try, for us.

I wish I had begun the process to qualify for tuition wavers from the begining. I attended this school 10 years prior and had to drop out due to work conflicts. Now that I have started up again, those incomplete grades have caused my GPA to be lower and I am having to go through an extensive appeal process. I wish I had known how much those grades would effect my ability to pay for school.

The tuition get rising but I wasn't really seeing where all the extra money was going. The program that I was in was very intense. The parking situation at the Jordan campus is kind of a joke if you could find a place to park. Not too many negatives at all.
