What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I am 32 and have been working in manual labor jobs most of my life. I am not ashamed of this and appreciate that I have been able to support my family in this way. I have come to realize that at some point my body will not tolerate the punishment I put it through for work and for that reason I am very motivated to educate myself. I would like to transition to not only working with my hands but to also work with my mind and heart to help others.
I am very excited about this new phase of life and a new ability to serve others with a new skill set. I have no doubt that I will do well and become a well educated nurse.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I am in the biology field where most students expect to go to pre-professional schools. Within classrooms, there is much competition and sabotage of other students in order to succeed above one another. Not many students truly want to help others. The classrooms are filled with people who are always looking after themselves and will do nearly anything to get ahead.

I wish I had known about all of the resources and organizations the school has for students. There is a lot that the school has to offer besides just classes, and to get your money's worth and a good education in general, it is almost critical to utilize the resources that the school has to offer. I wish I would have known how important it is to jump in with both feet from the start.

What are the academics like at your school?
Academics are excellent. To make the dean's list, students need at least a 3.5 gpa, which is .5 higher than most colleges. We study all the time and the professors are really helpful. They are all willing to meet with you outside of class if necessary.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Campus is GORGEOUS. It's like walking through a park. However, the parking stinks, so try to live on campus and walk to class or take the campus shuttle. If you live off campus, take the bus, carpool, or take TRAX. We get free public transportation as students.
