What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
My college experience has let me come into my own. In high school I was an indecisive, shy girl. However, my time at college has made me outgoing, strong and independent. College has forced me to grow not onlyt as a student but as a person too. I have been able to take control of my life and live the way I want. The seperation from the norms of home put me out of my comfort zone yet has made me flourish. As a high school student I never would have dreamed that I would have the confidence to study abroad in the upcoming semester nor would I have believed I would be double majoring. Overall my college experience did not change me, but it let me develop. I honestly do not think the most important part of the college experience is the classes, it is the experiences you have, the people you meet and the memories you will have. I will carry college with me forever because I know it has made me who I am today. I am excited to see where the next year and a half of college will take me!

What are the academics like at your school?
Class sizes at Binghamton are very small. Even for Freshman classes they usually adverage between 20-40 students. Unless you take big lectures, you are likely to be in small discussion classes which means that your teacher will know you name and get to know you personally. The students that go here are hard workers and the class averages are generally high, so don't count on curves. Being a Human Development major I'm in a major that's is greatly changing. The HDEV classes are small and requirements are changing so definitely keep ontop of what your major requirements are.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
The school is very large, but it has good major programs and the class sizes are small. On the flip side of this, since classes are small signing up for the classes you want to take can be a problem. Look forward to taking some early/boring classes the first semester or two. The school has a good reputation with people though, and employers supposedly want to hire students from public colleges because they are well rounded individuals. The dorms are fairly comfortable, and the city surrounding the college has plenty of shopping and entertainment opportunities.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
It is so cold, and the food can be bad at times. There is a cheating issue, but every college deals with that. There is diversity, but you find that people still cluster around, the asian internationals stick together and the Long Islanders as well. The school is 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} Long Islanders. There is not much to do on the weekends except goto the frat parties.

What's unique about your campus?
Going to Binghamton is like going to an Ivy League except it is affordable and the atmosphere isn't as intense. Students here are just as intelligent and hard working but much more down to earth. Economic status definitely doesn't come into play at Binghamton and that alone makes the experience much more pleasurable.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had really believed that it was okay to not have a major coming in as a new student. I pressured myself a lot to come up with a major because I thought that would make me more successful, when really I chose the wrong major and became unseccessful. If new students just register for courses that interest them, their interests will spark and an idea for a major will eventually come along without the pressure of forcing yourself into one.
