Tidewater Community College gets the job done. Because it is mainly used as a gateway to transfer to universities, there is barely any activity on campus and people only focus on finishing classes to transfer. This does make this school a little less interactive, but overall, this school serves exactly the purpose it needs to.

Tidewater Community College provides plenty of different classes to take for a variety of different degree paths weather you want to take classes in person or online, but TCC is a college that's generally better for students that are unsure of what they want to study or for students who intend to transfer to a four year college after doing general studies. I enjoyed my time at TCC and my professors were generally pretty helpful but there wasn't much of a community on campus. There are several TCC campuses spread through out Virginia, so certain classes would be much more out of the way depending on where you lived and that lead me to not taking a lot classes aligned with my interests and instead just doing required general studies leading me to not being very interested in the classes I was taking. I am glad I went to TCC for my general studies since it would have been more expensive otherwise but I do wish I had more opportunities to take more interesting classes offered elsewhere.

I believe TCC has prepared first time college students for Universities. Going to a community college first has saved me thousands of dollars. I was able to receive an Associates degree in Science and also my pharmacy technician license without having to receive school loans!!

Community college is a great option for high school seniors and just about anyone who wants to earn a degree. Compared to public and private universities, community college is a lot more affordable. Some great things about Tidewater Community College are the campus security, class size, professors, commute, and flexibility. TCC has blue light emergency stands located in multiple places on campus. These are great for lighting in the dark and if a student needs help, there is a button that alerts campus security. I personally prefer smaller class sizes because it allows for more class involvement and better relationships with classmates and professors. I have loved all of my professors at TCC. Most professors use office hours to meet with students, but I have found that coming to class early or staying after is a great way to discuss concerns with your professor. I have had great interactions with all of my professors in person and through email. Hampton Roads has four TCC campuses, so no matter where you are located in Hampton Roads, the commute to fairly easy. TCC offers both online and in-person classes for almost all courses, so if you have a busy schedule and can't be in person, you can still earn your degree completely online.

I think the college is ok if you want to get your degree quick and easy. But if you want professors and counselors to be hands on with your learning it definitely isn’t the best. The counselors will try to make you give up what you’re passionate about because they don’t believe in you. I would recommend rate my professor before signing up for classes.

I think a tidewater community college is a great place for students to start before they transfer to a four-year university that way they can get a feel of what college will be like academically. The professors are nice and can be very helpful, I do wish I would've started with four years because I wanted the whole college experience. This university will save you at least half of the money you'll pay at four-year colleges. I highly recommend enrolling here.

Tidewater Community College is an overall good school, especially if you are looking to save money. Most advisors and personnel are very helpful and you can tell they like there job. This isn't a school most people would consider because it is a community college and everyone is ready to go off on their own which I understand. That was me at first, but when I realized how many of my friends were coming back home because financial issues, debt or they let the college freedom go to their heads I realized I had made the right decision. I am grateful that I had my parents with me through this journey and being at Tidewater Community college for about 2 years gave me the necessary skills I needed to transition into adulthood. I am now ready to transfer and be on my own.

In my opinion, Tidewater Community College is a great school with great faculty and experiences. I love being able to get good help from my advisors about virtually any problem that I have. I was even able to talk to an advisor about a traumatic life experience that I went through when I was younger. That advisor still emails me and checks in to this day. In my experience, majority of the professors want their students to succeed. I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but my experience at TCC has been really good. Highly recommend.

Tidewater Community College is an amazing place to learn and grow at. Attending TCC helped me save an abundant amount of money while still receiving the same education level from any other college. As a junior in High School taking a Dual Enrollment course, It was a wonderful opportunity because it prepared me for actual college classes and If I wanted to go to an actual college, that's money saved in my pocket and courses already taken and out the way so I could possibly graduate early

Initially, I was not too fond of the idea of starting off at a community college but once I began classes at Tidewater Community College, I knew it was the right decision. Tidewater Community College, or TCC, allows students to have the college experience while freeing them to understand life as an adult. Since I have been at TCC, I have had the time to work and go to school at the same time. Like any college or university, classes may become challenging. One specific benefit of starting off at TCC is the fact that many students are able to go for free! TCC has a plethora of services geared toward the student's success. There are plenty of tutoring sessions one could sign up for as well has math labs to assist with homework. The professors are extremely helpful whenever a student has a question in or out of class. The campus is easy to navigate and always looks presentable. There is a large gym facility that students can access anytime they would like and as long as they would like. The campus of TCC is large enough to feel like a university but still small enough to feel included. I would strongly advise graduating high school students to begin their secondary education at TCC as opposed to diving into the large college world. It is easy to transfer to a four year university because there are multiple counselors willing and able to assist in the process. TCC adequately prepares you for what is to come and it is true what they say, "from here, go anywhere"!

Classes are though-provoking and challenge me to do my best. Professors are understanding and want every student to pass. The environment is beyond familial. Security is on top of their game in their respective buildings and around campus grounds too. I have no regrets choosing Tidewater Community College as my home for the next couple years.
Kiersten - 10/26/2019
Overall, it is a good school to attend when you want to save money prior to transferring to a four year school. I began attending classes after high school graduation. I paid half of the cost for classes that I would have at a university. Their modo is start here, go anywhere. I plan on transferring to a four year university.

I love the norfolk campus just because of the people, teachers and food
Courtney - 07/21/2019
Overall, Tidewater Community College is great! It has a nice quiet calm atmosphere where it is easy to learn and concentrate. There is a wide range of people and is able to be catered to anyone who comes. Plus, the tuition price is much lower than others making it affordable for people with families and other liabilities.

Love everything about the campus .. visiting and talking I received all the information I need or was directed to that department .. orientation was very educational and it gave a more perspective of what the staff and what is available online and on the campus

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I am so glad to go to college to get my education because that's the teaching from the prophet of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. Now I realize how important to study for I can make my country and family better. The reasons why I mention about this situation are 1. The knowledge at the college is deeper and wider than in a high school, and it can explore your mind and thought. 2. The way you pursue the knowledge from the books and the professors will make your attitude and sight different so whatever you will do in the future will be more sufficient and more successful. 3. The relationship with everyone surrounded you will be closer because you guys are pursuing your dreams together. 4. You will get more chances to have a good job. I am happy to have a chance to get a higher education in my life and I know it will make YOUR life more vivid.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The most challenging issue facing students at Tidewater Community College is parking. I have taken classes at each of the four campuses. The Norfolk campus is based out of a heavy populated downtown area. Students are charged a flat $25 fee per semester in order to park in designed garages. The biggest problem is the distance of the garages to the instructional area. The Virginia Beach campus has an insufficient amount of parking spaces to accommodate students. The Chesapeake and Portsmouth campuses are currently under construction. The supplies needed by workers decrease the amount of spaces available to students.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
If I had to choose one type of person that should not attend Tidewater Community College, it would be someone who is not dedicated to working hard in an attempt to further his or her personal life and become an upstanding citizen of the United States of America. I do believe, however, that everyone deserves a chance to broaden his or her educational oppurtunities, and Tidewater Community College provides people with that oppurtunity.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I would have went to this school before going to a four year university. The tuition is cheaper and I feel that I learned more at this school than at the four year instuition.
Tidewater Community College (TCC) is well known for being a good start to college. It allows students to stay near home and attend for much cheaper tution then other state schools. The classes sizes are modest and the schedules are flexible, allowing students to work while in school to support themselves. All in all, TCC is the school for students who cannot afford a larger school and need to work to substain themselves while attending college.
Any kind of person should attend this school, but I specificially think it is very helpful for people that might be nervous to attend a large university first, so they can start at Tidewater Community first and work their way up.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The only thing I really brag about it the money I am saving to go to this school. Also how easily I can talkt o my teachers about homework or anything else I need to know.
TCC has three different campuses and the one that I attend is home to the mathematics and scientific sides of the college. In VA Beach (approx 20 mins away) most of the language classes are held there and the Chesapeake campus (15-17 mins away) houses theater, film and art classes.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
The Phi Beta Kappa and the SAAB (Student African-American Brotherhood). Activity wise it's humpday dodgeball and the freshmart which is a bi-monthly farmers market that comes to campus.
I think that it's lovely! I have the opportunity to get all of my General Education requirements completed before transferring (to Hollins). Another plus is the fact that I am close to my family and near my campus there are a ton of cool things to do.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I think that the stereotype of community college students is that we are dumb, or lazy and that we couldn't get into bigger schools. That could't be farther from the truth! Community college students are actually VERY smart. We know that it's more economically smart to take general education classes at a local college and then transfer to a uni thus saving you time and money.
