TC3 has changed my life. I have never experienced such joy to attend school. I love learning , but TC3 takes it to a whole other level. There is no place I'm happier at and when I'm not on-campus I'm wishing I was. It sounds corny, but I love this school with all my heart. I'm so appreciative of my professors and my friends there.

The professors there take the time to get to know their students and the tutoring center is fantastic when you're struggling. If you can't find your professor in his/her office, you can always reach them by email, even though most have given their students their personal cell phone numbers.

This is one of the most stunningly bad colleges I have ever seen, heard of, or attended. Stay far, far away. The classes are boring, the professors don't teach anything, and none of the students talk to each other. Administrators are unhelpful and don't provide you with the necessary information. I wish I had never seen or set foot on this godforsaken campus.

TC3 is a good start for college. The art programs are fantastic, but everything else is pretty mediocre. The math teachers I’ve had are amazing, but the courses can be difficult. The advisors aren’t helpful at all. I’ve had multiple times when I’m told to do one thing and it screwed the rest of my semesters up. Communication is lacking.

As the parent of a student who is just finishing 2.5 years of living on the TC3 campus, I would say TC3 is just about the worst educational environment that I can imagine. While the professors, for the most part, seem to care about their students, the rest of the environment is abysmal. My daughter has been subjected to cat-calls and sexual harassment on a daily basis. Virtually every walkway is poorly lit and there is a SINGLE blue light on campus, just outside the Security office. Students are advised not to be around certain dorms after dark and campus security actually patrols each of the dorms several times per day. There are drug dealers living in every dorm, and drug use is unbelievably high. Marijuana is the drug of choice and the dorms reek of at all times. The school apparently advertises heavily in New York City, because fully half of those living on campus are from that background. If you're from a rural area, be prepared for culture shock. Also be prepared to be hated by the City kids, and threatened and harassed (physically and sexually). Beyond sports, there is very little to do on campus. There are occasional movies, dances and other activities, but they are not well attended. The food is horrific. They now require all students living on campus to pay for a 12-meal-per-week dining plan (up from 8), but also cut back on the number of hours the cafeteria is open. Our experience has also been that you will be turned away starting 30 minutes before they close. You would think a school with a culinary arts program would be able to use that to their advantage, but no. While sitting in the cafeteria, you will again be subjected to harassment, and fights break out more often than you would expect.
The new President appears to be at least trying to make some improvements, but the extent is yet to be seen. After 2 years of work orders for a broken stove, electrical outlets that sparked and holes in the wall, they did finally fix the outlets and the holes, but the stove only ever had one (sort of) functioning burner.
I know this is rambling, but save yourself a whole lot of stress and disappointment, and find a different school to attend.

Tompkins Cortland community college is a not an ideal college for you if you're not on a sports team. The school is practically controlled by the sports. On campus there's not much to do unless you like disc golf or handball. The teachers however are very helpful when it comes to your school work. They're always there to help you whenever you need it. They also have an awesome tutoring center which provides extra support outside of the classroom. The cafeteria food is disgusting, and the cafeteria is not open on the weekends which doesn't accommodate to students who live in the dorms.

I love this school. It is very environmentally friendly as well. The college runs nearly completely on solar power and much of the food in the cafeteria and coffee shop is grown on the campus' sustainable organic farm. The academics are excellent and there is always great activities going on.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
For me, making the transition into college was much more difficult than the normal freshman because I was raised as a home schooled student. When I began attending TC3 at fifteen I carried insecurities from my untraditional education. While my home schooling instilled in me a huge appetite to learn, it also evoked a need to prove my intellect. Had I believed more in myself, and fostered a deeper sense of self-esteem, I could have made the transition much more easily. As it was, my constant overachievement kept me on the edge of exhaustion and physical well-being. It took a while before I recognized that my testing anxiety and self-criticism were crippling me. With realization, I now pursue my interests with a sense of calm, and freeness. My advice to myself as an entering college student would be that pursuit of what we love is hampered by fear, and a person must look for self-worth within themselves rather than in others.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
As TC3 has developed good reputation, its merits have been counterweighted by stricter policy, lesser tolerance, and overworked faculty. In the time I?ve attended TC3, the regulations for student organizations, one of TC3?s strong points, have become arbitrarily limiting. Now, clubs which contribute in a constant, innovative manner to the campus and community are forced to jump through hoops; for example, they are givin extra paperwork and have mandatory participation in "community projects" designed by Student Activities. While the new policies are likely well-intentioned, they prevent self-motivated organizations from pursuing more relevant and individualized motives.
?Diversity? at TC3 is real; not a sought-after statistic, but a natural occurrence. It is expressed not only in race and color, but in age, opinion, background, and goals. For me, this is invaluable in a college. Students are taught in an environment where they have as much to learn from those around them as they do from their books. I have taken a class which included a woman from a senior center, a fifteen-year old homeschool student, a student from the Bronx, a nursing student in her forties, an exchange student from Turkey, and two local students.
TC3 is a great gateway college. It is a stepping stone to almost any other destination, from a four year college to a skilled profession. You get out of it what you put into it. Therefore, the people who are best suited for TC3 are those who are motivated to seek out opportunities and make the most of their learning environment.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
A person who should not attend TC3 is anyone who is un-motivated, and irresonsible. A person who cannot efficently manage thier time, and complete tasks in a timly fashion, would not be able to excell at Tompkin-Cortland-Community-College.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
TC3 has unique features that distinguish it in the eyes of the students who take advantage of it's special opportunities. My friends and I have availed ourselves of it's study abroad like programs and club trips. I was able to go on a white water rafting adventure last spring for a personal cost of only $50! Complementing these travel opportunities are inspiring teachers. Many overqualified professors change lives every semester, from working with students on independent ecological research in Costa Rica to working with them personally to help them find their future.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Before attending TC3 I wish I knew that financial situations should not control big decisions, like choosing colleges. I declined my number one school choice because I could not afford it and it may be one of the biggest things I regret doing. TC3 was and is cheaper, and that controlled my decision, yet I am very unhappy. I also wish I knew that making friends is not something that comes naturally, and that keeping to myself is not only okay to do, but may be crucial to accomplishing moving on in my degree.
