The University of Baltimore is a run of the mill school for most majors - unless you're in Business major or Law student. Luckily, during undergrad I was a Finance student within their Business school which has been recognized for providing some of the best Business programs in the country. Unfortunately, other programs seem to be forgotten. Their art department is definitely lacking, for there are no real art classes given at UB. However, MICA is relatively close and there are opportunities for students to take courses there (for a hefty fee).

The school is best known for its law school and its Arts program. The Forensic Science and Criminal Justice program ranks among the top in the nation. Very much a commuter school. There are no dorms. So your options are living at an expensive apartment or off-campus. Most students go to entertainment centers like the Modell Lyric, Hippodrome, Meyer-Symphony Hall, the Arena, or the Inner Harbor area. It's also not far from Washington, D.C. There's things to do. You just got to look. It's one of the most affordable universities in Maryland. However, that may be due to not having any sports teams or many extracurricular activities hosted by the school. I feel safe on the actual campus itself but if you deviate far from it, depending on where you're going; there's some pretty bad areas. Again, if you go to the Harbor area or the surrounding counties, you're fine. Best way to go to the Inner Harbor area is either light rail or get cheap parking ahead of time on a parking app. Or you can take the MARC train to D.C.

I love UB. They school consist of most working adults so there isn’t much rift raft going on, on campus. There are several opportunities to meet great people, and to make long lasting connections. The University of Baltimore helps you to position yourself to be successful in your career/ goals.

Morgan - 06/11/2019

Its a small school and there isn't much to do there. Even though their isn't much to do at the University of Baltimore the academics are still amazing. The professors are always there whenever you need them and they make you feel important and that you matter. Our school has a game room, common room and a gym and that's about it but those facilities are somewhat decent. I do wish that they did have some more things their for students to do because most people me for example leave after class is over because their isn't much to do around the campus itself.

Amanda - 11/15/2018

I don't like that it is in the city, but it is a good clean campus. There are always Baltimore police officers on campus and their cars parked near the buildings to keep us safe, I like that. The academics are good. I felt more of a challenge in high school and CCBC but the classes I have taken here at UB are mainly write papers and take tests and that is your grade which I don't like. Some of the professors here are nice but others are arrogant. The academic advising for criminal justice students suck. They have no idea what they are doing, they don't respond to emails or phone calls when I leave messages. It is hard to contact them. If you need help its like they don't care.

Steven - 10/31/2018

The first thing you will notice is the general apathy of the administration. I've had colleagues who have gotten bad first impressions when asking questions looking to go to school here and then decide not to go. The clincher for why I give it one star was due to a situation with a mentally unstable professor that was mishandled. Her name was Mollie Bowers. I simply asked her why I received the grade I did on an assignment out in the hallway just outside her office after class as I caught up with her. The grade was lower than expected, and she provided no written comments. For some reason or another, she couldn't discuss the matter at that moment, and the discussion moved over to email the following day. So, then she completely flipped out and told me she didn't appreciate the way I antagonistically approached her. I had totally no idea where that came from. After I few of these types of emails exchanges, I decided this lady was a nutcase and that the situation needed to be escalated. So, a meeting was scheduled with her department head. His secretary sat in on the meeting and took notes. At the end of the discussion, she said "I think I know what's going on here.", looking at the department head as she was saying it and ignoring me. Apparently, I wasn't privy to what that meant. Then, she left the room leaving me alone with the department head, and I found out what it meant. What happened next is I was the department head started attacking me and trying to bully me into submission to protect his colleague. So, then I went to the acting dean. The acting dean was really nice. What I got out of the conversation with the acting dean was that they presented it to him that I was a hostile and threatening person, but once he met with me in person (which the department head and the teacher hadn't counted on), he could see they lied and that that wasn't the case. He worked with me to come to a workable solution, which included getting out of the class. Soon afterward (I'd say the following semester or so), the professor was no longer at the school. I'm really not surprised this happened. This was only the first or second week of class, and there had already been another incident where she way overacted by slamming something on the table when someone's cell phone accidentally went off in class. Her reaction was such that is scared the class. Later in the semester, a couple of the students that were in my class work group and with who I shared the incident wrote to me expressing that I was right. My boss read the emails and said "This lady has some issues." Years later, I kept receiving solicitations to donate money to the school. I finally wrote them and told them to stop sending the solicitations citing this incident and also mentioned that I would not be recommending the school to anyone for the way it was handled. Soon after, someone in administration cyberstalked me by looking at my LinkedIn profile. The view came over as "hidden profile by staff at University of Baltimore". My guess is they wanted to see if I was holding a position of power to determine if my bad recommendation would affect them.

The school is ok. It's very affordable . The location is good and bad. It's good because it's pretty close to downtown and has all those perks. Its bad because of the lack of housing and affordable parking. The professors are ok. But you have to be on top of your stuff, never rely on your adviser because who knows how long you'll be there.

Vanessa - 07/06/2017

It is a great school that offers more than meets the eye. It is also affordable and many options and resources close by if it isn't available on campus. The people on campus are great to know as well, a large diversity among everyone; age, gender, race, sexuality. No matter the degree or major that someone is pursuing, there is always a variety of individuals in a class giving all sorts of perspectives and advice.

Taryn - 06/26/2017

Absolutely great school. They're extremely diverse and care about each and every student. They are career oriented and want students to succeed after graduation. There may not be housing but there are plenty of apartments around and multiple ways of transportation. Would recommend to anyone.

Yamaelis - 06/13/2017

The college itself is small and its located in the heart of the city. Don't expect a lot of wild parties or youth running around-most of the undergraduates are 24 and over. It's a great school with a focus on Psychology, Business and Law. It's a great place, if you want to be in a small campus with city life then UB is great. Being close to downtown, its at great walking distance. In which you won't need a car or make 20 min to 30 min drives back and forth and look for parking. Housing its great, a little too expensive but great overall. While it's great and its cheaper so you won't be spending a lot of money to go to school, campus food well.. is trash. We don't have a school cafeteria so you"ll be spending your money in any of the food restaurants around or grocery shopping at the end of every two weeks.

Grace - 02/04/2017

The University of Baltimore is exceptional. There are several online options for graduates and the on campus courses are excellent. There is a dynamic group of peers and professors that are truly inspiring. The Merrick School of Business offers a comprehensive business curriculum. The specialization in Health Care Management is unique to this school. Every class is exciting and a worthwhile investment.

Ellehcim - 12/05/2016

Since applying for the university I have been greeted with nothing but kind gestures. From the class enrollment and freshmen advising appointments to the in class communications. The university feels like a family and since it's fairly small the teachers have a good relationship with the students and vice versa. After this first semester I couldn't see myself at any other university. Overall, I am very pleased with The University of Baltimore.

Lashay - 11/16/2016

I no longer attend the University of Baltimore. The school itself is diverse and the professors care about student success. However, I wanted more. I want to pursue the arts. While UB provides things a student would want such as an easy commute, good professors and a diverse campus it however, does not fulfill me as an artist. So I ended leaving UB and have plans on attending a community college that has a very good art program there.

Amber - 10/03/2016

University of Baltimore is a great college, it has everything you are looking for in ways of research and education. However, there is no real "Campus life," seeing as most students are commuters. This can give the sense of neglect to student ideals and concerns on campus... but overall you can find more campus life activities if you really want to just keep an eye out!
