UIS is a great school to go to for a new college student. It has small class sizes, which allow for personal relationships to be developed with professors. It also has a many different clubs and activities to keep students engaged, while exploring other passions and hobbies.

University of Illinois is not a school I would recommend. I left during Christmas break because of a death in family. I was told by an African American professor to not come back ! I wanted to finish my education and a professor told me no. I was seeking help while on campus to get very little to no help. I am a first-gene so I tried to make an impact at home. I let others dictate my life for me. The worst decision in my life was going away and putting myself in so much debt because someone else didn’t believe in me, they had other plans for me.

I enjoy this school very much. My primary reason for picking it is that the environment is small, and allows for everyone to get to know each other well. Being an extrovert, this was important to my social acclimation to any college. The class size also allows students to get a closer relationship with their professors and therefore receive greater opportunities for academic assistance.

The culture on the University of Illinois Springfield campus reminds me of a family. The campus is small, so most of your classes will be with the same people over the course of four years. This allows you to build great friendships. The class sizes are small, which allows students to build relationships with their professors and have more one-on-one instructional time. If you are a small-town person, this is definitely the school for you. The campus buildings are recently renovated and look modern and edgy. This makes the old campus feel new and welcoming. The new library provides students with a quiet place to study. The new student union is a great hang out for students and holds the new food cafeteria and Starbucks. The student union has a pool table, video gaming area, places to hang with friends, and even glass classrooms that allow you to look out on the beautiful sunset as you study. The modern and up to date buildings make campus life more enjoyable at UIS. The housing on campus is relatively nice. The dorm life is actually ideal at UIS compared to other Universities and Colleges. In the dorm students are in pods, meaning they have a roommate and the room next to them has two students, and all four of them share one bathroom. Yes, you heard that right four people to a bathroom instead of a whole floor. The school also offers townhouses and apartments on campus for upperclassmen. The housing units have started to be remodeled making them more modern. While the housing units are nice, when things do break they seem to take forever to be replaced. However, on-campus living makes you feel apart of the school culture and family-like atmosphere. The athletics at UIS are on the rise. They have started to dominate the competitive GLVC conference. The utilities that athletes are giving access to are very nice and well maintained. The Chancellor of the university is the athlete's biggest fan, and will be in attendance for all home games and will occasionally travel to games as well. This adds to that family-like culture here at UIS. The campus offers a bunch of intermural sports as well, which provides traditional students with the opportunity to keep playing sports they loved in high school or to try something new out. NCAA and intermural athletes at UIS take pride in wearing UIS across our chest and protecting the prairie every chance we get. If you need time to distress UIS has got your back. On-campus there is a huge pond where students will go to relax and enjoy the nice weather. There is also a small coy pond on campus that many students will go to relax. There is even a Shakes Spear garden in the middle of campus that provides students with a quiet and beautiful place to escape from the stress of school. The campus even has recreational activities all over campus such as sand volleyball, mini-golf, frisbee golf, outdoor basketball, and a mini-park for children. However, the best thing on the UIS campus is our colonnade. The UIS campus offers a lot of different places to go and distress. If you are a high school senior or college transfer looking for a new place to call home, UIS is the place for you. UIS provides students with a great U of I degree and family-like atmosphere. Take the leap of faith and apply to UIS, I promise you will not be disappointed.

    Both parents and students need to take time to consider all of their options including what type of job they're pursuing, before they start college. Some high schools offer vocational training, which can help when deciding on what to major in at school. Also, students, when picking the right college, choose one that fits you and consider the scholarships, grants and FAFSA EARLY! It may feel like a lot of work, but it helps make things a lot cheaper! Find out what is expected of you by most professors and consider what type of help (Tutors/study groups) is available at school. Both parents and students, consider the local schools in your area, especially the junior and community colleges and what's required of transfer students at the current school you may be interested in. Sometimes it's best to start with a 2- year college since it can provide an associates degree, something you can fall back on, just in case the University doesn't work out. Community college is a good investment because you can live at home, (since some colleges have everything in walking distance), you can keep your car and have home cooked meals daily!!!

    What I would consider to be the worst thing about my school is the fact that it is such a challenge to travel there by public transportation. If an online student or distance learner has to commute to this school, they must do so via amtrak and at least two buses because there is no shuttle to transport them.

    UIS is a small campus and its like to know everyone on the campus so where ever you go on campus you will not feel lonely. The staff and professors are very friendly and therefore I never hesitate to go to them if I need any help. We have a huge library and you can find me most of the time in the library. There is student housing in the campus itself which makes us feel living if the campus close to all the events that take place. Is is very safe on campus.

    The whole campus is small enough so that everything is within walking distance. If you live on campus, you won't have to worry about taking a bus to get to your next class.

    This liberal arts school has small classrooms with teachers who know you by name and are willing to spend the time to get you where you want to go. Get involved with organizations on campus, even those outside your major. Take a few ECCE classes that just sound interesting because they will be. I recommend attending as many as possible, it will really broaden your mind.

    Some of the groups at UIS are International Student Association African Caribbean Student Association African Student Association Bollywood/Fusion Dance Team Chinese Student Association Club de Espanol, Recreo, Conversacion, y Amistad (CERCA) French Club Indian Student Organization Japanese Club Las Mujeres Model United Nations Organization of Latin American Students Students Allied for a Greener Earth Vegetarian Club Students in the dorms do open their doors open as we are not scared of any theft. We do know that there aren't any thefts occurred for several year. Athletics are very important at UIS. There are many sports events that occur at UIS . Some of the are women/men basketball, volleyball, soccer, cricket, etc. It am awake at 2am on Tuesday the I will be having party and playing some indoor games with my friends. Last weekend all ours friends on campus went to a restaurant. Party are very common at UIS. We have a party on every birthday of our friends and this party general occurs at midnight.

    Actually, UIS has only been UIS since 1995; not quite long enough for us to really have a stereotype. Before that it was Sangamon State University; the SSU student was stereotypically a hippy.

  15. What are the academics like at your school?

    All the professors do know our name. Class participation is very common and we don't hesitate to talk as the professors are very friendly. Students are very competitive. I am doing Masters in computer science and I met professors outside the class several times to get doubts clarified. And they do clarify on the spot without even postponing. Its like almost asking your friend.

    The University of Illinois at Springfiled is best known for its political science and pre-law programs. The university's location in the state's capital is extremely useful for gaining internships and hands on experience in the field of political science. Also, the school's location puts students in a place that allows them to view the workings of government close up and make sure that political science is the field that they wish to go into.

    The most frustrating thing about my school is the lack of participation from students in on-campus activities during the weekends. Although a variety of events are readily available to UIS students outside of the classroom, most students choose to go home on the weekends or participate in an off-campus event.
