One thing I wish I had known before coming to UNR would be how many resources were available and how extensive the engineering department is.

I wish I had known how the classes were structured and also how each teacher tested. I found it very difficult at first to figure out what each teacher liked and didn't like and also how they chose material for the exams. For example, do they mostly use information from class notes or mostly from the book. It would have made my transition a lot easier.

There are many aspects of college life that I didn't know how to prepare myself before I started my college career. The one idea that I believe would be the most helpful to anyone before starting college, and that I wish I had known, would be to get involved in as many activities as possible on campus. Your college experience is truly made by the effort you put into it. I quickly learned that the school and its' organizations offer many positive learning experiences for the students and community to get involved.

I wish I would have known to take college or AP classes while still in high school to get a jump start on my degree.

There is so much more to life than academics. It took me a long time to realize that, however I still make sure to keep my grades up. I realized my freshman year that there was so much on-campus life and spirit and it took me a little while to really get into it. Once I did, my overall college experience improved drastically.

There isn't a lot I wish I had known about UNR. I wish I had known more about the school I attended before, because the students were much different from UNR students. UNR students are very laid back but still work hard at school, don't party too much, and are extremely kind. I am very pleased with UNR.

I wish I had known to explored more career options. I thought that I would figure it all out in college but I haven't. There are so many career options out there and I feel like I still haven't explored enough. I wish I had thought about this more in high school because now I'm still unsure and running out of time, or at least I feel like I'm running out of time.

My situation is probably no the norm for most students. I decided to transfer to UNR 6 weeks before the Spring semester and I found out I was accepted a week before the semester began so everything happened so quickly I never really thought about what I wished I would have known. I do know that I am glad they offered the orientation it helped the transition be a little easier.

If I could go back in time and give myself advice about college, I would tell myself to make a plan for graduation. The importance of making friends, joining study groups, asking questions and speaking up in class. Connections made in college will be valuable when I get out of school. Getting a job a lot of the time is who you know, not what you know. Get involved in student clubs and activities. Take advantage of the tutoring offered by the college. Most of all I would tell myself to work hard because it will pay off.

There is nothing I wish I would have known. I felt from day one I was provided with all the information I could ever need. As time goes on there are little things I have questions about or difficulty with but there is always someone willing to help me with any problem.
