Wilson College allowed me to find out who I am. Small classes do not allow you to hide. Everyone is known by name. I am a stronger, more confident woman because I attended Wilson College. I strongly support women's colleges as great places to get a quality education and grow as a person.

For a long time I have tried to pursue a career that is not me. I have received an associate of applied science in graphic arts. While I am a fairly good graphic artist, I am not ready to give up on my dream. I have learned a lot about computers, communicating, and about how hard it can be to break into the art field without a bachelors. I a hoping that once I have completed my education I can not only provide for myself but that I can use my career as a platform to spread awareness on a disability that I myself suffer from, Spastic Torticollis. This is a very disabIing condition of which few are aware. I feel that with perseverance I can live my dream and find a cure for this condition.

I have learned so much already and I haven't even completed a full semester of college. The professsors are extremely helpful and knowledgable about the curriculum they teach. I've learned so many things about how i can improve the welfare of my own dogs and changes I can make to get them healthier. I feel like I'm gaining the ability to actually make a difference with animals. I can't wait til next semester when we actually get to do hands on learning. I will be so much more comfortable handling animals and treating them after that.

Even though i am a freshman here at Wilson College this school has made me a confident , and intelligent woman. Not only in my work but in my self asteem. This school has given me the strenght as a woman to never doubt any of my skills, and to strive to be the best i can be. I was also able to realize that getting help and admitting to your weakness is a good thing because there are people who will be willing to sit down and help you one on one with understanding something that was hard to comperhend in a large group such as lecture. It has been valuable to attend this school because being here i am out of my comfort zone which is in Connecticut. I never seen towns such as this one and i am learning more about why they adore animals and what makes this a great community to b e involved in. Wilson does community like actuvities and help others be aware of events such as breast cancer awarness month, celebrsting art, and allowing others in their community to work together to be more like a family creating more comfort to be around.

Wilson College was truly a great college to attend. I really felt like I got more than just an education from Wilson. The teachers were so passionate about what they were teaching. They made me excited to learn about things that otherwise I believe I would not be so interesed in. I found out how much I loved Biology and decided to get a minor in it along with my degree in Veterinary Technology. After I graduated, I went through several jobs and I really liked what I was doing, but just felt like something wasn't quite right for me. I talked to one of my old anatomy teachers expressing that I felt guilty for wanting to try something else and he said to me, "No education is ever wasted." From those words something just clicked and I decided to go back to school and add some more value to my mind. I'm studying Diagnostic Medical Sonography now at Univeristy of Maryland Training Centers and plan to graduate with a certificate in August of 2011. I plan to use this skill with animals and who knows, maybe go back to school for something else one day!

I've gained a degree of confidence and an increased respect, acceptance and appreciation of others, and I've fallen in love with a multitude of people, places and ideologies. I have grown in leaps and bounds as a human, being both socially and personally, in addtion the world seems larger to me, but at the same time less freightening than it was before. Education is a valuable resource as it empowers the spirit as well as the mind, and college is a place where you are never alone, you are surounded by idividuals of like mind in pesuit of individual educational goals. It is a place to meet new people, some who will be with you for the rest of your life and others who will share a portion of themselves with you in passing. I am 40 years old and it matters not how long it took me to get hear, but that I am hear and so very thankful for the oportunity. College life may not be for everyone but I encourage everyone to give it a try, becuase you never know who you may become as a result.

If I could get the chance and go back and give myself advice for college, I would have three peices of advice that I would tell myself. The first thing would be that when your in high school develop good study habits don't try to cram it into one night. When your at college the professors go over a ton of material, and cramming for a test in one night isn't the best way to go. The second thing is that if you have a roommate problem, try aqnd fix it before it gets worse. sitting down and talking to each other will help work out some problems that might be bothering you. The third peice of advice that i would tell myself is that the first couple weeks can be very difficult, but if you do not give up, it will get better, I promise.

I would tell myself to relax a little more and stop stressing about finding friends. Finding friends came easy and the transition was not that bad. I would also tell myself to research more on my field of study, just so i knew more about what we were talking about in class.

I would tell myself not to be nervous about going to college because it's a really great experience and it really isn't that scary. I would also tell myself to try a little bit harder in some of my first semester classes because I really could have done better and now I'm kicking myself for that. I would make sure that I knew that I would meet some awesome people at my little all girls college and that I wouldn't want to go anywhere else even if it was completly free! The best thing about starting college, is it is a step toward a better future and I would tell myself that the college I picked was a college that would do everything they could to make sure that I would achieve my goals and become who I wanted to be and do I what I wanted to do.
