When I was first accepted to the school, I had no idea what to expect, and I was beyond terrified, especially being an out-of-state student. But when I first got to the school, my fears immediately left, and I felt like I belonged there on day one of me even being there. The professors really help alleviate whatever stress any student might have, and they show that they are devoted to helping their students succeed, no matter the cost. Some professors are not the greatest, but that's normal since nobody is perfect, but they are still great people. The campus itself is a beautiful place, situated right in the downtown area of the city, and all the students I have met are really devoted to their respective fields of study, and not there just to be there. Overall, a fantastic place.

I think Youngstown State University is a great school, especially considering its affordable price. Students gain a quality education while being on a campus that is enjoyable and being around faculty that truly care. Its more affordable than many other schools, but the education is just as good.

My overall opinion is that YSU is a great, affordable college. YSU is focused on academics and there are plenty of extracurricular activities to partake in. Tuition is reasonable and there are multiple scholarship opportunities that are offered. All of the professors I've had are approachable and care about your education.

I believe it is a good college to attend, but I don't feel like part of a community here, I don't think they have a broad enough system, as my major is not there. I feel like it's a place where people go who either do not feel like they can go to a college they want, or that older people attend when they have a family. It is reasonably priced, especially living in the state.

Youngstown State University is an incredible school as far as I'm concerned. Like any other college or university, it isn't perfect, but a lot of things about are great! There are a lot of dining option on campus including restaurants and the dining hall. YSU even has contracts with off campus locations that are included in the meal plan as well so you aren't paying a whole lote extra for some variety. The dorms are nice and more spacious than any of the universities I visited before enrolling here. Not only that, but I have met some of the best and kindest people here! We come from a wide variety of majors and minors, including the STEM, Arts, Social Sciences, and Business colleges, and the cultural and religious diversity here is incredible! The professors care about the success of their students here, and are willing to bring opportunities to you individually if they think you are a good fit for something. They are willing to meet outside of office hours to help you learn and study material that will be important, too. I think that even a semester on YSU's campus would prove it to anyone looking for an excellent place to get an excellent education.

Youngstown State University is an excellent university to attend. There are so many types of majors that range between 25 different fields of study. The professors who teach these classes are wonderful. They offer office hours and if those do not work with your schedule, they are very flexible and will plan around your schedule. The campus itself is very beautiful especially in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. When it comes to food on campus, there are plenty of options to choose from as well as there being many different places off campus that are relatively close and require very little walking. I personally do not live on campus; however, I have been told wonderful things about the available housing options. I must admit my favorite thing about Youngstown State University is that it is fairly cheap which makes attending college here easier on me. I do not have to stress about the extremely expensive costs of college on top of my coursework while attending. There are many different types of people on campus and we are a fairly diverse college. We have so many foreign exchange students and it is amazing what types of cultural aspects they bring here with them. It is such a welcoming university to attend. Everybody on campus helps one another especially when the new semesters start, and new students arrive. Youngstown State University was not my first college choice, but I must say that I am happy this is where I ended up and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

Overall it is a decent school and better than a lot of the other schools in the area. Unfortunately the location is not the best, as there is a high crime rate. The campus is a decent size and the people are nice. The staff is extremely helpful with issues, answering very fast and giving good explanations and solutions,

I really liked attending YSU especially coming from the previous college I attended. Professors were respectful and helpful. The campus always felt, smelt and looked clean. Food was great. It felt safe. It had a big school feel but a small town vibe. The community was very involved with school so It made the city feel like a huge extended family. I loved it!!!

At first I was a little shaky about staying so close to home, but now I actually enjoy it. The professors are kind and it is really easy to make friends considering most of them I already knew. Classes are always good and professors are usually relatable as well.

I have only just enrolled in YSU but from what I've seen, its a great university and everyone seems welcoming and extremely friendly. The advisers work with you in order for you to get the best experience you can out of what you want to do. The campus is also beautiful and safe, and I can't wait until August when I start.

Youngstown State University is an excellent school with wonderful hospitality. From my first meeting at Experience Y Day, the President greeted our groups and spoke of the safety, academic quality, and numerous involvement opportunities. Youngstown State University is a medium-sized college that lets you define who are by offering leadership and student organizations while balancing challenging and thought-provoking courses to become professionals in the world.

Youngstown State University FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Youngstown State University?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Youngstown State University is 67%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would give myself the advice of always studying. College is all about studying if you do not study then you will not pass your tests and you will regret it. College it is all on you, your teacher is no longer holding your hand through everything and helping you through every step. College is very individual. One big theing for me would be time management, make sure that you manage your time wisley, because college work will stack up faster than you think making things become rather stressful. high school to college is a huge transition, but it is able to be done. Do not stress yourself out right before you go to college because if you put hard workinto college it will come easy. High school was a good learning experience, but college is a big step forward. Always study, turn in your work on time, go to class and never give up. Put 100 percent into everything you do in college.

  6. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about my school would have to be the tuition being raised and pell grants taken away. Youngstown State is suppose to be a way for those stuggling financially to earn an education. The cost of tuition went up $1,300 within the past two years, this puts a stressful toll on those already in financial need. Some low income families get to go for free just because their parents don't have jobs, while my family works hard to earn a living and I do not even get a pell grant.

The academics are definitely what you make out of it. Your professors will know your name if you let them learn it. Class sizes range from 30-50 people usually so unless you skip most of the classes your professor will take initative to get to know you. They also understand that a lot students have to work during their time in college and are good about modifying the syllabus if there is a major conflict with the students schedule.
