11/15/2024I am a first year and so far, if I were to rate Cal Poly Pomona on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the absolute best, I would rate it a 7.5. To me, CPP is between mediocre and excellent, it is not the greatest, but it is certainly not on the lower side of the scale either. There are many places where students can go, individually or with friends, to either sit and chill or to focus and do their work. This campus is so big that there is almost always somewhere to go sit without having to wait for a spot to open up. From my experience, the people that work here are very easygoing and helpful, and I feel that whenever I have a question, I could ask without hesitancy. If you want a big social life, you have to join clubs or get a job on campus because majority of people keep to themselves or stay with their friends. It is fairly easy, however, to join clubs because I often see lots of flyers promoting events that are held by different programs and clubs. This has made me realize how even though this school is known for its engineering program, the programs for other majors are equally valued and exceptional to be a part of as well. On the other hand, finding a job is a bit harder to achieve. I recommend using the app Handshake to find jobs on campus and when applying, apply to as many as possible so that you have a higher chance at getting a job. It also takes a long time to hear back from jobs, which can get annoying, but it is crucial to check your email frequently, so you do not miss an opportunity. Even though everything on campus is more expensive than it would be outside of campus, which is very common in college, there are food places that give good discounts if you go at a certain time, which you can easily find out by asking. The thing I would say that sucks the most at CPP is the traffic to leave. It is an absolute nightmare if you are trying to leave right after your classes for the day because that is what most people do, so I recommend leaving about 30 minutes after so that you can skip that traffic and then leave before the next batch of students get out of class and leave. All of this considered, would I recommend this school to future college students? Most definitely.

11/06/2024This university consists of the most anti social students and community that you could find at a california state polytechnic school. I had difficulty creating study groups, getting classmates to converse, participation from peers in group projects, and finding joy in greek life. The only social scene is greek life and it is not a genuine community to surround yourself with at all. I played a club sport and made little to no friends, even when I would pay for friends through a sorority. I could not get the courses I needed due to overpopulation in my major and I constantly carried stress of being behind. I consider myself a very positive and spiritual person and this school took away all my light while I attended. It is not easy to enjoy your days in such a depressing environment and I believe it is bad for any young individuals mental health, even the toughest souls.

04/16/2024I really like it! It’s just the perfect size for someone who doesn’t want to be so outgoing, yet still wants to make friends, which was exactly what I was looking for. I love on campus and enjoy it much more than if I drove everyday! My professors have also been amazing!
