Describe the students at your school.
The environment at St. John's is spirited and enthusiastic, but if you don't actually open yourself up and put yourself out there, you can feel distant from the community. Coming into new environments is definitely daunting and intimidating, but by getting involved you are likely to find like-minded, as well as different and interesting, people. No matter what, stay true to yourself. Honor youreslf. Stand firm in who you are. People will love you for YOU.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
This school is a great place for networking and you are presented with many opportunities that I feel you wouldn't get at other schools. When people hear that the school is located in Jamaica, Queens New York, the expression on their faces is priceless because the location is often associated with a lot of violence. The schools location and the atmosphere make it just right for people looking for a school that not too big and not too small. Seeing that it's a Catholic school, those who are devout in their religions would be sure to find a church on campus that respects all denominations. Another reaction I get when I say I go to this school goes along the lines of, "you go to St. John's, home of the Red Storm? That's a really good school you know." Our school is very know for our basketball team and also for our Law school and the different programs we have. Our school might have many great factors about it but one thing that you can always hear about that grind your gears is the good old financial aid. Now every school might have problems with the financial aid building but I feel that ours are the worst. One day you can look at your bill and see charges that you know about and then the next day you go in to pay for them and they tell you that you owe more money. There's always mistakes that they take months to sort out and that can effect your registration and enrollment. You only feel ease when everything is done. When I'm on campus I'm usually in one of our dining halls, Marillac, the D'Angelo Center where all the organizations usually are or in the Library.School administration isn't so bad as long as you know who to deal with. If you have problems there are some administrators you just don't go to. I would like the school to bring back the football team they used to have because homecoming isn't really the same without football. Since our school is Catholic there has been a lot of controversy around students being able to bring an LGBT Organization on campus. If you aren't sure what that is it's and organization for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transvestites.

What's unique about your campus?
The communication from the staff to students is the best quality of the school. The classes are small enough so that proffessors most of the time know your name, or at least can answer your questions in a timely fashion. The administration also strives to make your experience as good as possible.

What are the academics like at your school?
I've never had a large, lecture type of class at St. John's where the professor doesn't know who you are. All of my classes were small, with the largest being maybe 40 students or so for a Biology core. I definitely prefer small classes where you can interact with other students and the professors on a direct and persona level, and St. John's offers that.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
During the essay don't be concerned about bragging, you have done so much, and this is your time to shine! Also, start early on writing the essays, St. John's finds the essay portion they're favorite part during the applications. I should have started off my essays about two months in advance, it honestly is very time consuming but worth it during admissions.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I wouldn't say that there are any stereotypes of the students at Saint John's University. Because we are in New York, there is a diversity of students which makes it so beautiful to be here because you don't have to try to fit into a stereotype, you can just be yourself.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I met my closest friends at St. John's in either my education classes by being randomly put into group work or, mostly, on my Discover the World experience where we lived together for 4 months.
Off campus activities are endless as long as you're not lazy or totally broke. We are a 40 minute or so bus+train ride from Manhattan so take an adventure and have some fun with friends in the city.

Why did you decide to go to this school?
I decided i wanted to go to this school when i visited the campus and realized the connection the students have with the deans and professors. I would see the students engaging in conversations with them and sitting at an outside table having lunch and i remember saying to myself "thats what i want." I wanted to go to a school where my deans and professors knew me by name and Saint John's was definitely the place. I was also drawn by the amount of campuses they had and the fact that they had one on Rome, and Mardrid, they had numerous abroad program.

Describe the dorms.
There's various types of dorms on campus, but not that much space for everyone. The only on campus dorm I lived in was the Manhattan campus, which I thought was a great experience. It's in TriBeCa and the area is beautiful. The on campus townhouses in Queens are awesome, too, though. I wish I could've lived there!

What are your classes like?
Well, since I just changed my major. I'm taking a lot of classes needed to satisfy my major. So that I don't put too much on myself, I'm taking classes online as well. It's a bit easier because you can get your work done on your own at your own pace. But, I also enjoy the classes that I take on campus because I get to interact with other students and my professor face to face, which is very convenient.
